Have done all tests even those recomended by an auto electrician.
Is it normal to have power to the negative terminal on the coil. When connecting the condensor earth wire to the negative terminal on the coil I got a spark, I then tested the negative terminal on the coil with a test light and it turned on when earthed. If it is a negative terminal why would it have power to it when the only wires connected are connected to the positive of the coil.
Thanks

Does the motor turn over fine like it should???When you are trying to start it.??
do you have fuel squirting down the carby when you pump the throttle??
Do you have spark at the points when checking with cap off and somebody turning the motor with the key???.

arhhhh whack a subaru Turbo in it.
It worked for me 😂🤪😂

if the ign is on when you did this then that should be normal, the points just ground the coil when closed, the current flows through the coil to ground, so you should get a spark.

I like the sound of that but I do like having no water to worry about!

Motor turns over fine and yep there is fuel in the carby. No spark at the points though.

Hi
You have positive power + to the coil and -- negative power on the other terminal...
the negative side of the coil has to be connectede to the condensor which is mounted to the outside of the distributor... turn the engine over by hand...
the points should open when its on the 4 high points on the shaft... as soon as the gap opens... current flows thru
the coil...to the points....

cheers

in Adelaide South Australia

hook up some wire to the battery + and the coil +...
turn the key.... it should start...

Huh?!?!?! how can that work???

When the points are closed, power travels through the primary coil windings and through the points to earth creating a magnetic field. When the points open, this collapses the magnetic field through the secondary coil windings creating a high voltage spark
