Advice on a longblock and pricing.

On my way home from the City (Melbourne) on Friday night my engine seized. To say I'm disappointed would be a huge understatement as it was the cars original motor. Basically something (Like a connecting rod) has broken in the motor. It is a standard DP 1600 1972 SB. I will re-build it in the future but for now I'm looking at an economic solution to get it back on the road.
I'm handy enough with a spanner and feel the best way to get her back on the road is to get a longblock either second hand or reconditioned. Then transfer the externals across from my motor.

Any idea what sort of price for a secondhand or reconditioned 1600 DP stock would be?

Also any recommendations of reputable suppliers for Melbourne Metro area? (I'm near Eltham in NE)

Generally what does a long block include? My feeling is block, crank, cylinders and heads, oil pump, flywheel. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Last question: I want to get the dizzy out. If a connecting rod has broken (and indeed jammed) can I remove the heads and cylinders to free it?

This is quite new to me so any advice on the above (or alternatives) will be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to get a complete 1600tp secondhand for between $500-$700.

Many thanks Craig. I'll start with a secondhand motor to keep me going. I've put a hold on a 1600dp for $900.

I'll rebuild my original over the coming months.

Final question: If a connecting rod has come loose (and I'm not sure this is the case yet, but the motor has siezed) what sort of internal damage can I expect?

Thanks,
Simon

I would have assumed - lots, if the big end went.
