Costa
Whats yr chssis number ?? 195 or 196
XXX-1.8T ·
My chassis is 195 whay you got something for me?
matara ·
Costa,
PM me your address and I'll post this to you as its no use to me. Its from a 65 beetle, good thing is the chassis number is not legible so you could just stamp your one onto it.
Cheers
Steve

Does anyone know where the number goes on teh above VIN plate?
Anyone recommend someone who can punch it on?
Phil74Camper ·
The number is stamped on the third line down - to the right of where it says 'CHASSIS NO'. Use number punches that are about the same font size - you can buy number punches at any good tool shop.
The plate can be cleaned up by scrubbing with a wire brush, then polishing with Brasso.

Thanks Steve thats awesome!

Quick question this VIN plate says:
Type 11 isnt that the code for Kombi's arent Beetle's a Type 1 or is it an Australian code
matara ·
Costa it came off a 1964 beetle that lived in Coogee. Definitely sure it wasn't a kombi. I think it might mean Type 11 (eleven)??
Cheers
Steve
XXX-1.8T ·
Your right Steve it is Type 11 as Bently refer to the Beetle as Type 11
Volkswagen Type 11 Beetle Sedan
Volkswagen Type 14 Karmann Ghia Coupe
Volkswagen Type 15 Beetle Convertible
Volkswagen Type 141 Karmann Ghia Convertible
must be internal VW code?
Phil74Camper ·
Yes, Type = 11 refers to Beetle - Type One One. They don't use Roman numerals on Volkswagen manufacturing plates. A Kombi is a Type 2, not a Type II.
This is the one off my old '64. You can see where the number is stamped.

Does anyone have a number punching tool that can do this for me?
Im hopeless with tools so would rather someone else with skills do it.
