donn ·

I purchased a carbie on ebay (because I could, don't know why other than for that) but before I try to fit it I have a couple of questions.
1. will it be ok on my 1600
2. If not what do I need to do to make it ok (if there is anything that can be done)
3. There is an electrical connection at the base of the unit alongside the drain plug on the bowl, this dosn't exist on the one I have on at the moment (I have been told the existing one needs a complete rebuild) what is this conection for.

The connection in No3 i would assume is the cut off valve, connect it to the choke wire at the coil.

The PICT31 is the 1600 single port carby.

I have one one my Baja and it goes fine.

Grumble is right, the wire connection on the LHS of the carby is for your fuel shutoff solenoid, connect it up to the choke or coil positive wire. If it's not connected there's no fuel allow to go to the engine.

Hi Don

the PICT31 is off a single port engine like the 1300 or 1500 beetle..

they don't have enough vacuum for a SVDA distributor..

but should work with a vacuum only or 009 distributor..

its strange your old carby doesn't have an electromagnetic cutoff solenoid..
to switch off the fuel when You turn the key off..

Beetles had them since the early 60s..

cheers
