Does fitting a repro ragtop require engineering or anything to please Queensland Transport?

I don't believe so, but it is the sort of thing you may want in writing on QT letterhead just in case.
I'd talk to your insurer too.

I'm sick of arguing with them. Do you need approval for a regular sunroof? I can't see it being much different.

BTW, if you are really want a rag top, pls buy one of ebay. there are literally sqillions of beetles on ebay with this mod. Find one you like and buy it cheap. much better to do this than cut a hole in the roof of a straight, rustfree beetle. 😉
Bizarre ·
What do you call a rag top??
If you mean a Britax or Golde sun roof................ maybe not
If it is a sardine roll back then definitely

It's a fairly straight, almost rust free Baja Bug, and i bought it like that, so I did no cutting.
And it's a normal 3 fold looking ragtop. Do you mean i should fit it?

post a pic. it could help us tell you a lot more. there are a few people on here have fitted all sorts of folding sunroofs.

Not my car but same ragtop. Would it need engineering/QT approval?
vwkj87 ·
anyone know the legality?

why bother telling them ???

Gday all the best thing to is attempt to find a manufactures name also pictures of the real thing it may well be factory or an approved set up its easy to pick the dodgy ones they are normally held down with press stud type fitting where as good quality types use proper slides and locking mechanism at front usually 2 handles

I need to pass inspection for baja kit, so i'm trying to find out beforehand whether they're ok. i can never get a straight answer from them.
