Beetle ID

Hi,

Apologies if this question has been asked a hundred times already. I'm new in here and looking to get back into a Beetle resto after many years.

I have my eye on a couple of beetles, looking at them I'd say they are somewhere between 59 and the early 60's models.

How can I ID the exact year of the beetle? Is there numbers to decode some where on the body?

Any links or info would be appreciated.

Thanks, where do I find the VIN?

Hi

Be careful looking on US sites for VIN info, for period of time we had Oz only VINs, 1965 - 1967 actually.

The VIN is stamped on the centre tunnel near the battery, just near a removable cover plate for the gear shift coupling.
