Just wondered if anyone has a genuine original 1952 Beetle in a shed somewhere.
Prefer somthing with no rust or accident damage. The more original the better.
Don't mind either if it's got some aftermarket stuff like Judson or Okrasa.
Preferably it would already be registered and in a roadworthy condition.
Hoping to find something for around $2000-3000.
I know it seems a bit out there but well
empi ·
might want to add another zero to the price

I bought exactly that - 1952 factory sunroof Beetle - in East Maitland for $600, so they are about.😉 Oh, it was 30 or so years ago.🙄
It was in the Herald, and when I phoned, a lady with a very strong German accent answered. When I asked how many rear windows it had, she said "one". Luckily I didn't hang up, and asked if the window had a dividing bar in the middle - she said "yes"👍
With trailer hooked up I was up there like a shot. When I moved and had no room for it, I sold it to a chap called Fhami, or something like that.🤪 Wonder where it is now?
Cheers, Greg
Joel ·
Greg did that one by chance have a pretty rough DIY rhd conversion?
A bloke i used to work with ages ago did his time as a panel beater way back when doing all mainly PMG repairs and was always around VWs alot
He was telling me about this this old german lady that had a split beetle that she brought to the country with her and converted to RHD herself, it still had the speedo on the left and no passenger seat so she could put her groceries on the floor
HappyDaze ·
Sounds like it. Was it in East Maitland?

Hi Greg
I drove Fhamis split many years to the NRMA Motorfest at the Rocks, he did finish off. He lived around Marrickville.
Here's a split story for you.
I used be a sales rep for VW parts company in the 1970s, it was part of the Provincial Motors group. Part of my round was going to VW shops all over Sydney and selling them parts.
There was a servo at Sutherland near the railway station on President Avenue, in the lube bay was a dusty split window, I often pestered the owner about selling it to me.
Fast forward to a few years ago, met up with a car club member who lived just on the other side of the Blue Mountains, got to talking about VWs, you wouldn't believe it, he bought the split from the servo when it shut down.
Due to ill health the owner of the split is selling the car now, the owner offered the car to me before he advertised because of my past history with car, but I don't have the funds to buy it or anywhere to store it. Always wishing I could win Lotto.
The add for it has been on the Club VeeDub website for a while now
"For Sale:- due to illness, much loved Split Window VW Beetle shell only. Vehicle history available. Instruments, wheels & new tyres come with vehicle. Asking Price $15,000. Please contact Don Carter ph.02 6355 2037 or Email- margdon@cirruscomms.com.au"

I was sort of looking for something closer to home cause I don't have a trailer and was hoping to get my dad to drop me off and I could drive it home.
Craig, does the 54 have a sunroof I could cut out? I think they are the same from memory.

Is this 50 out of your price range ?
dutchyvan ·
can sell you a LHD 1948 split, not rag, needs resto, complete car. $55 000
it is in the Netherlands, you would have to cover shipping.

VDUBXTC wrote:Is this 50 out of your price range ?
How old's that add?
Got the rest of the number?
vw54 ·
that car has been sold ten times over
VDUBXTC ·
Maybe you might like to go a 52 Cab with your 50 just to have the best of both worlds. 😀
mattie ·
mate has a 54 rag tucked away in his shed went and visited it a year or so ago lovely car.
omr_007 ·
does your mate have a disease that stops him from driving it?
type3disease ·
maybe his butler does, and he can't move the 15 winda and the 356 to get to the 54
some butlers just aren't mechanically minded... 🤓

I met Fharmi and his family in the 1980's (meetings had nothing to do with VW's, at the time,- he was a friend of my aunty) he was just on the tail end of restoring that split. I remember his house had all the living areas covered in impressive large floor tiles and he used to be able to get new release movies on video from the UAE heaps before they were shown on the big screen in Aus.
Wasn't that his collection that got auctioned at Wisemans Ferry a few years a go?
Regards,
Matt.

I understand that Don Carters split got sold the otehr week to some one in Sydneys south any leads ??

Talking of splits...
Back in 1992, at the Flat Four Vee Dub Club Show.
There was a Dove Blue restored split window Beetle, the car was stunning.
The car took the major prize - Best in Show.
Don't think, I have seen the car since, the 1992 Flat Four Vee Dub Show.
Anyone remember this Split window Beetle?
I may have to search the archives (the old drawer of old photos)
* Oh yeah, I also have a Herschmann Red Tip aerial and a Telefunken radio, unopened in their boxes. Perfect for $3K splitty! Price uhmmm, say a twenty 🙂
vw54 ·
yeah its belongs to Rodney
TOPCAT69 ·
I got a 82 T3 transporter kombi for 3k and its got a split crank 😎
