Any one had a problem with a compufire, seemed ok when I installed it but car played up on the way down the coast and it was sugested that the compufire may have been the problem, another bloke not connected with vdubs said that they need an application of "white grease" under the module to stop heat transfer, any clues out there?❓

Used and sold plenty, no white grease and no problems to date.

Hi
I fitted one to a very old low mileage 009 and had a consistent miss fire and pinking, took it off and put standard points in and the problem went away.
I was going to return it and I thought that I would give it one more try, no problems whatsoever, been in for over 2 years without the slightest problem.
I think I may have had a dodgy load of fuel in the tank.

I replaced 2 on old beetles , they had a burnt sticker on top of them, The cause was the Generator/ voltage regular over charging, 16/18 volts.
over charging will allso cook the plastic rubbing block on points.

My Compufire gave problems a few months after I installed it. The fix was a drop of loctite on the hold down screw. Working fine eversince (at least 5 years) except for the rotating wheel (not sure of its correct name) which cracked and had to be replaced (at a ridiculous cost). Wouldn't go back to points ever!
Cheers

i installed one to mu bug on the weekend and was not and am still not getting spark to cylinder 2 starts ok but only on 3 cylinders and clues as to what it could be

Did you fit new sparkplugs?

If your gettin spark to all other cylinders then check the dizy cap, I had one with a defect on one only point (the brass bit inside the cap 🤓)

I don't know if they last very well - I have only had mine for about 12 years (about 180,000 kms I think) with no problems so far, but once it beds in........
