hey finally found a kb laser turbo carb with hat awesome the turbo build is on, pick it up soon it should be a 32/34 dmtt i think shimo used one many years ago on a 1776 does anybody know what cam and jetting was used if they have bought that motor or maybe shimo himself can help let the fun begin

Joel ·

Different carb.
whitelightening lasers use Solex 32DIS
thats what i used on my old setup

Theyre a single throat carb not twin like the Weber

bugzla ·

how did yours go joel any problems with the solex still dont know the branding it is but if it is a ridgy dige laser one then it might be a solex 32dis which im lucky enough to know of a few people using these in the uk with great reliable power not huge but good hp for a 1600cc or 1640

bajachris88 ·

how much ur paying for it?

I got mine from the uk $400 aud (that was for two of them though, going to run twin carb) and included postage, was second hand but ran/tested by cgb motorsport, so they are in good working order.

The throat bore is the same size as the type 3 twin carbs, so the inlet size will suit on the original twin carb manifolds, BUT the stud size is slightly wider. Will need to mod/adapt. They are cheap as and can get cheaper again, like 35 to 50 GBP from the renault 5 Gt forums (the turbo models run the same carb) but would probably require a rebuild for that price, which u can get EXCEPT IN UK THEIR REBUILD KITS ARE CALLED SERVICE KITS IN EBAY, so u won't find a 'rebuild kit' for it as its different terminology.

I got a few diagrams too if needed.

I'm yet to fit and tune these. Linkages will be fun haha.. i'm laughing now but i'm sure there will be curses eventually...

$ 50 bucks im paying it does need a kit put through no probs cant wait looking into water injection any body got a cheap kit available that u know of

They're a brilliant little carb and suit a bug well
With a tiny bit of fileing they will bolth straight up to a 1600 manifold and it's not hard to get a linkage working.

I had mine on a stock 1600 and just opened up the main jet a bit.
It was the free turbo i was using that kept letting the team down.

I sold that one to a forum member once i gave up in frustration but i bought a pair of them a few years back to use in a twin blowthrough supercharged setup but got too complicated and gave up on that too

I think I still have scans of the manual for them somewhere

bugzla ·

man would love to get them if thats okay ill give u my email stevem@tjmproducts.com + do u know what sort of hp i would expect around about

bugzla ·

o yeah what turbo did u use ive got a r33 skyline one

Joel ·

I'll find the scans and email them too you
I was using a toyota GT starlet turbo a mate gave to me
it was a CT12 but was pretty rooted to start with, it still made 6psi when the wastegate worked properly

I'd hazard a guess it would have been around 75-80hp at the wheels, i did get a WRX intercooler i was gonna fit but gave up before i gave up on it

one thing I learned was run an external oil cooler, the stock doghouse just couldnt cope with the heat from the turbo oil return

bugzla ·

well noted oil cooler bought and ready to go cool thats what im after around that horse power so it should be good in my manx thanx joel

SuperOwen ·

Joel, do you have any pics from when your setup was turboed? Ive only ever seen the supercharged setup

Joel ·

That was about 6 or 7 years ago i built that, predating my digital camera ownership but i may have some old school photographs of it somewhere

It wasnt much to look at though built out of scrap tractor exhaust mainly
