Hi all,

I have just moved to Melbourne from Pennsylvania USA. I left behind my 67 and 72 bugs as well as a whole slew of parts...not to mention my VW buddies (my best mate had a 52 splitty, 63 23 window ragtop kombi, 67 cal look, 67 squareback and a bunch of other awesome cars)

So basically, I am here with a totally blank slate. I need to get myself a bug ASAP, you know, before depression sets in!! I am really not sure where to look...my budget isn't huge yet as I am still looking for employment over here (only been here for 3 days) and I would like to know where to go for parts etc.

I would love to meet some VW enthusiasts over here and see some of your cars. I can't wait to get started in the Aussie VW world!

Cheers,

Jon

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm currently in Riddells Creek but my girlfriend and I are looking for a place closer to the city. I'm happy to travel anywhere in vic to check out some cars.

Welcome. Here's the car for you then. It's been around a while in this guise - been sitting that low for 5+ years at least.

Thanks mate....awesome car. Wish it wasn't 12 hours away! It will definitely be one to keep an eye on if I don't find anything in vic though.

Oh come on! In Oz we drive that far for lunch. Some of our farms (like ranches, but bigger) span two or three time zones. And wait until you see our grasshoppers (image attached).

Probably the best approach is ebay (ebay.com.au), then the paper "Trading Post" (tradingpost.com.au) and also carsales.com.au. Cars are also advertised on this site. There are no huge differences between australian-delivered beetles and US-delivered, except that from about '68 (? someone will correct me) on, disc brakes were delivered in australia.

what sort of dub are you after a kombi or bug go the early bug its more cool. im in inner city and i play with early beetles if you need a hand theres a lot of shit around but the good stuff can be found.

Hi Jon, Welcome to Australia, hope you enjoy it here.

Our VW seen might not be as big here as your used to, but we are all just as fanatical about out rides.

You are lucky being in Melbourne as it has quiet a strong VW scene there and also some great work shops in that town.

The Melburg Luft boys roll some pretty sweet rides and the Victoria VW club is a good bunch of people too.

Plenty of good cars around, jump on ebay, check on here, get around a couple of shops ... you will find something to keep your VW juices flowing.

Anyway, again.... welcome i hope you find all you are looking for here in Australia.
