WTB Type 3 (Any!)

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/85265/wtb-type-3-any

Major ·

Good afternoon all,

As the subject suggests I am new to the forum. I have never owned a VW however have a great love for these cars.

Pending the sale of my current car and depending how much money I have left over after I do some work on the new house I am wanting to buy a late model type 3 fastback (if anyone knows of one in Vic let me know).

Is there anything in particular that I need to keep a look out for?

Great forum everyone, keep up the good work.

Cheers Major.

Rusty floor pan covered in sound deadener to disguise the holes

look out for rusty front bumper mounts

Major ·

Thanks guys, appreciated the info.

cruiser ·

There is bunch of info here on what/where to look when buying a type 3.

Guys, what are your thoughts in this car currently on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-TYPE-3-FASTBACK-1970-/220660159286?pt=AU_Cars

empi ·

Its a late model ... buy and early car!! 😁 Autos can be costly!

Doctor ·

Nothing wrong with a late model, i prefer them personally, for looks and parts availability....

vlad01 ·

Me too. I like the way the late ones look 😀👍

Fastie ·

A guy on Melburgluft bought this

Major ·

Decided not to bid as I would prefer a manual. I have a guy interested in my current ride and with some luck will buy it. Then I will be on the hunt for a fastback.

Still if anyone knows of one let me know. I want it as a daily driver, but I don't mind having to do a little bit of work.

naylor_james ·

if ebaying.....go and see it in person before you purchase!!!!this forum is incredibly valuable to someone just getting into these cars as i am..i wish i had spent a few more weeks browsing this forum before i purchased my car....ask questions the guys on here are more than happy to answer even the strangest and most obvious or difficult questions...check out hte readers rides area and see hwat problems or issues other people have had who have built something similar to what you want....just research before you buy...i didnt and it bit me hard!! but yeah this forum is the perfect place to learn and ask questions!

i have 2 late auto type 3s and 2 spare gearboxes, real hard and exspensive the 2 spare i have were given to me

do yourself a favour and join the fattie crowd, be different from all the other muppets

too right and yours is lovely i may add

Major ·

Thanks for the bump Matt.

As my other thread suggests, I am searching for a fastback (or notch) project. Preferrably a complete car.

Appreciate the leads, Cheers Paul.

Have you seen this Major???

Yeah mate. Unfortunately it is well over my budget. By the sounds of it though it is a pretty good buy.

Cheers Paul

dragsters for life ·

thats a nice one not much to do to make it yours, been watching it too

vlad01 ·

thats cool as hell! original paint?

I would go for that, looks pretty much all original and untampered

Major ·

I was seriously thinking about it. It is out of my price range unfortunately, I had a chat to the guy who owns it and he was wanting to get around $3k. I personally think it is worth a bit more then that, I would have thought around $4k. It will be interesting to see how it goes!

just buy it

Major ·

It ended up going for $2500, pretty good price I would have thought. Alas I wasn't the lucky buyer, so I will keep looking for my project.

dragsters for life ·

the buyer stole that, damn wish i had the room, i dont have a fastie

That is one nice notch! Seen the others on ebay. The white fasty was on there for $3K last week.

you've gone mad!

Major ·

Guys, went and had a chat to Rick at Volksrecycle on Saturday. He is a great bloke and a wealth of knowledge. However still didn't find anything except for a nice notch which is still out of my price range for a project 🥲.

So I am increasing my budget and looking for a daily driver, only have $3K though (pity I didn't work this out a few weeks ago when that car was on ebay).

Cheers Paul

Fastie ·

Just be patient.. plenty pop up here and ebay.

Trust me I have been looking, the problem is I need a second car urgently and I would prefer to get something that I really want rather then any old thing. Otherwise I will have to run the kids around in something like a pulsar 🤪.

Can anyone tell me if childrens car seats easily fit in a type 3???? Do they have anchor points????

Cheers Paul

empi ·

i know where the one on ebay is...

Major ·

empi wrote:i know where the one on ebay is...
Please tell?😁

Major ·

Bump - Guys I am still on the search for a type 3. I was originally looking for either a fasty or a notch, however I would also consider a square. Actually I would really like a square if I could find one 👍.

Regards Paul

Hey Guys/Girls,

I'm Very close to Joining the Type 3 game. Have been looking for a while now, I think Im after a squareback, or fastback, either would be fine. Im constantly on Ebay etc. looking for a bargain but haven't been able to nab one yet! Wondering if you guys know of any that are up for sale elsewhere (you seem to be right on top of the market) i have a budget of about $3500.... im in melbourne, but can travel if need be. Any help would be great. Cheers guys.

type3disease ·

ask dragstersforlife - he has a yellow fasty that fits the budget etc... it may have sold already but ask him...

white wagon on ebay looks good for the dollars - go look at it make an offer then spend the rest of the budget fixing the oil leak

or I hear there may be an awesome safari beige auto fasty on the market soon, only a couple beans more than you've got to spend - but well worth it ; )

Sorry mate, I just saw the title of this thread and thought it was a good place to ask for help, rather than clog the forum by doubling up on the same topic. Apologies buddy. You're first in line 🙂

No worries mate, like I said doesn't bother me. I have seen plenty around for the price you are looking, so I will keep my eyes open for you too. Eventhough I am not having much luck in finding what I want, I would be happy to see you pick something up 👍. I will help where I can.
