NSW HCRS scheme (club/vintage rego)

Hi

Lately I've seen some cars including VWs using the NSW HCRS that are obviously modified, fibreglass panels, lowered suspension, narrowed beams, 17 inch wheels, race cars etc

The limits of the scheme are “must be as close to original condition as possible. Safety items such as seat belts and indicators are acceptable. Period options and accessories are permitted”.

Who do the people with these modified cars think that they are fooling to get "cheap rego" if they come unstuck it could put the whole scheme in jeopardy not to mention that they would be deemed to driving an unregistered vehicle with the ramifications that would entail.

yes there are several "" Race Cars "" on concessional registration

I dont know how they can qualify

Brian ·

period options and accessories could include Webers ,Wheels, lowering etc

Hi

Its a grey area really, lowering I'm not sure about, wheels would need to be from the period the car was made, 17 inch Radars were not around in the 60s nor were front beams narrowed, correct period twin carbies would be OK I think, one car I saw had EFI.

I've had Falcon GTs pull up next to me that idled like a drag car and had massive Simmons rims

Think of the EFI as smog free webers
narrowed beams with 17" wheels handle like crap so should banned @ rego historic or not

yeah its BS that some hillclimb VW's are on Historic plates............scammers.

helbus ·

It is all up to the club scrutineers that are signing the paperwork.

Why don't they comply ?

Don't you run a modified bug with full rego ?

Snap Crackle Bang ·

Modified cars are OK for "Special Interest Vehicle" rego in Qld.
Feel sorry for all you Mexicans.🥲

Yes a lot of these guys are wannbe mechanics,ie plumbers, accountants etc with no qualifications at all except that they manage to stuff around with their cars.Several of my customers have cars on historic plates, they book in for a reg'n inspection, get the paperwork, post it to their club and have a fair idea that their vehicle is as safe as it can be.
One particular customer races historic vehicles and that is one of the reasons he gets an RTA roadworthy inspection instead of the club inspection,
