Missing at 80kph +

Hi,

Today took the bug out for a bit of a run, and it was missing through out the rev range like quite hesitant and jumpy. It felt a bit like the time I had my rotor go on me.

So i pulled into a shop and got a replacement rotor.

The problem was more or less fixed at low speeds but still when at 80kph + it still was hesitant.

Can anyone help with this one? I thought maybe that the plugs were fouled or the dizzy was just on its way out.

(But it has a 12mth old, coil, cap, rotor, leads. and plugs were new in May. New points as of Late July and timing was set correctly with correct points gap.)

Vacuum advanced dissy or centrifugal?

sander288 ·

vacuum - stock short cap variety

The vacuum is working though, checked with a timing light and when the dizzy was out of the car.

Check the points faces and see if they are burnt. That can cause your problem. Mine had similar issues.

Hi
it still can be the points or condensor...
some points have a plastic rubbing block which wear out fast.
is your rubbing block and dizzy shaft greased?

the points rubbing block can wear down which means Your points gap would be smaller and loss of spark etc..

condensors can fail from too much heat...
and can be intermittant...

a bad condensor will cause Your points to burn... resulting in Bad spark...

coils can also fail or short out in the windings..
so they will still work... sort of...
but coils are generally OK...
