Weighing Cars

Where would the best place be to get your car weighed in Sydney? I was thinking at a rubbish tip or something but don't really know.

My rego paper for my 67 1300 Beetle say it is 710kg, but i've never checked its weight.

I've also taken alot out of it since it got weighed for that so I hope i'm less!

Local tip would be what I'd do.

theres a weighbridge at Box Hill.

The local tip would probably do it for you. Seeing as they weigh you when you drive in. I doubt they'd charge you or anything. You might get laughed at a tad though 😂

Try this.

Get four strips of card board,(1 to 2mm thick)
and form a square around your tyre conact patch.
Work out the area of the shape that is formed by the tyre patch.

Then measure your tyre pressure.

A simple maths calculation will tell you how much weight is on the tyre.

Then do the other 3.

It is surprisingly close.

Hi

There are public weighbridges in most industrial suburbs, I use one in Lorraine Street Peakhurst.

WSID 😉..........and while you're there put your 1300 down the 1/4 !!

vlad01 ·

get 2 high range bathroom scales and a something like a plank or metal plate that can cover both scales and distribute the weight.

Place one wheel on the plank/plate over the 2 scales. add the weight on each one up. write it down. then do the same on every other wheel. After that add all numbers up and that will give you a pretty close total. remember to subtract the plank weight for each wheel measured. So thats
(total weight - (plank weight*4))

Are you going to check weight before and after the roll cage is fitted?😁

I have a 1300 owners manual, it says 1638 lbs = 742 kgs, the RTA are often incorrect

Most scrapyards will give you a printed weighbridge ticket with front and rear axle weights. $22. Have used this a few times for registration engineering.

Well took my Beetle for its last drive today. Thought I'd take it to to get weighed. Took it to the tip and they were happy to do it for me.
0.88T with me in it. So 800kg, time to start strippin!
