Theres a link to moderate performance vehicles on there, but the New Beetle is not listed on it. There's a prohibited list also, but again the New Beetle is not on it.

But it says near the top of the page that vehicles which are diesel and have turbo/super chargers are excempt from being classified as prohibited.

Yeah, the rule isn't no turbo's, you can have a turbo on a diesel or anything with less than a 500cc engine (don't quote me on that figure but I think there are only 2 petrol cars in that catagory). but even outside that you can't have any performance modifacations. I found you can easily get away with internal engine modifications so long as it looks stock when you open the hood.

I think one of those is the old charade turbo 🙂
And possibly the Smart car coupe?

But again, don't quote me on that!

Interesting...
In theory, a P-plater could drive a V16 turbo *and* supercharged 10-litre diesel legally... I guess nobody has told them about the Le Mans winners of the last couple of years....

In the good ol' USA, you can buy a Dodge Ram with a 24-valve Cummins 6.7 L diesel with 260 kW and 881 N-m torque, suitable for towing medium-sized aircraft carriers; it runs the 1/4 mile in high 16's, this in a 3-tonne truck.

As much as Id love to be able to drive somthing like that, P platers in Queensland have a 200kw power limit.
We also have a cylinder limit aswell (can only drive up to 6 cylinders). But that is QLD.

can't have anything bigger than a v6 unfortunately, but i guess if you had a v16 the cops could never catch you anyway

The Cummins in the Dodge Ram is a straight 6 and over the years they had a whole variety of power outputs, peaking at 260KW; so I reckon it should be possible. I'm not, of course, suggesting it's *advisable*; many P-platers have enough trouble driving their dinky toys...
