1916cc vs 2165cc

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/86276/1916cc-vs-2165cc

After looking into different classes for racing, historics and all sorts I've really decided i'm going to do what I like and see where they will let me run.

Its no good getting caught up in the rules if your in motorsport for a giggle and not to outright win. (unless its regularity then i'm there...)

So to the point, building a motor and i'm struggling to pick my bottom end.

I want 94mm bore, because to machine out is pretty much the same no matter what, but i'm torn between a 2165cc and the tried and true 1916cc.

any suggestions welcome, the direction the car is going to head is a Tarmac rally car.

Cheers

Shaun

If you are going to stroke it, you may as well go as big as you can IMO (ie: 2332cc)

if your not concerned about being under 2ltr, then yeah go stroker for sure..how about using longer rods for a better rod ratio...i know a lot of people say that a long rod ratio "closer to std ratio"certain parts of your engine lasts longer.. 2176 sounds good... you can make same power with a 1916 or a 2176 but you will have to rev the non stroker more.....

i did get a good quote off kroc "very good rep for heads" in canada to do some heads for specific application...not to expensive....

Stroker for sure, IMO, how just depends on overall budget, hp, use etc etc. 2165 is a great place to start.

ok so with a stroker, I've seen 3 types, cromoly 4130 & 4340, and the DPR welded cranks, which is the best bet?

looking at forums etc, there seems to be alot of consensus on 4340 forged cranks over the welded DPR ones

Hi

Rudi has had good results with his turbo sports sedan with a De Mello crank. The bigger the crank the more machining needs to be done.

Would that be a certain white beetle from QLD??
yep...very nice.and what a bargain.....the guy who bought it has been racing escorts, cortinas, sunbeams and many more cars for years...so now i have someone to race with,yay......he wants to put the herbie theme on the car and i couldnt talk him out of it so i atleast convinced him to make the stripes and numbers black,to keep the black and white theme going ....

sorry for the highjack sander....

Actually mate, you've had some great first hand experience with potent 1916s and strokers, how do they compare?
