Hey guys.

Well im in the middle of fitting some new BRMs... Well trying to.

Had big issues with the rears rubbing that was going to sorted by a short axle conversion.

Had the front left fitted and it seemed to be fine. Close at full lock but no rubbing at all..

Fitted the front Right today and it rubs a fair bit when comming close to full lock.. It seems when i measure the distance from guard to tyre both sides there was difference of around 1 cm.

Is this normall ?? Its seriously getting me down with these wheels and im stuck on what to do other than flog off the wheels and lose money.. 馃檨

I did have different wheels on the back that i thaught may of cuased it. But when putting both stockies back on and driving it a little to settle it, Its still out.. Got me stumped.

Looking forward to your advise as im really starting to lose it with these wheels.

Cheers Vice

Maybe the shape of the guards are different to each other by 1 cm?

You may find that the steering box is worn and was installed off-centre to give a better straight line feel.

check the spindle and lower arm strike points. they are commonly worn at this age and allow the wheels to turn more before full lock.
It doesn't matter if the steering is off center or not as these strike points do not allow the steering to turn beyond a certain point unless they are worn.

just weld them up and re grind them.

I had the same issue in one of my type 3s

WITH
the front.. the rubbing when on full lock..
that is.. rubbing on the body....
this can be fixed by a wheel alignment..
if the tie rods are incorrect.. one side or the other..
it would be fixed with a wheel alignment...

with a ball joint beetle front end You can adjust the steering bump stops... by screwing in or out...
which will stop the tyre rubbing...
do both sides and no rubbing...

PS: I can't remember the steering on the type 3s
been too long.... lol

if u only need to move the guard 1 cm, just roll em out gently. such a small amount won't be noticeable if done neat man. 馃憤

Well after a bit more looking around today iv found out that the difference is caused by the LHS front being .5 of a Cm lower than the RHS.

Im pretty sure when i raise up the RHS all will be good with the fitment, Then on to the short axle conversion !!
