Type 1 Airconditioning

Hello, I wanted to start a thread regarding VW type 1 Aircon I have a beetle its currently a 1200 has anyone fitted Aircon to such a model if so post your pics tips and tricks.

I see many kits availabe but I really want to know how you have mounted your gear and if you put custom units in and how it affects the motor.

Basically its hot as hell were I live and the thing stopping me from using my dub is the bloody😬 humid hot conditions and I see this as a real solution but need some feeback.

WHAT year beetle do You Own...?

I don't think a 1200 engine would have enough power

1500 or 1600 engine would be OK...

Reason I don't use My Beetle much in the summer...
when temperature is over 30C....
and it gets to 40C and over.... lol

Basically all beetles have air con in the phillipines Singapore etc
where its very Humid...

I only know of about 8 beetles with air con in Australia...

I've seen 3 of them...

one has been going for over 10 years....

they were all different....

I have an under dash unit which was a generic Air Con in the 70s and 80s ++

they may be hard to find nowadays...??

otherwise You have to modify the unit from inside the dash of a modern car...
You can Buy a complete unit for RHD cars for about $2000 I think... I haven't seen them for sale for a long time...

I lived in south america for awhile had this bug there it was a 96 model it had nice cold Aircon. here is a pic of the engine bay bits

1200 is the curent sized motor bug that I have and its a 62

Mine's an inbetween job I guess, not quiet a full custom from scratch job cos I used factory Lbug ducting and the subi compressor but its not an off the shelf kit either cos my evap, condensor and pipework is my own design
