Thought i would share a gob smacked moment. Can't see why the engineer wouldn't allow this in a bug, its only a 1.5ltr v16. lol.

amazing! for 50's tech.

The pistons were only a faction from being 50mm in diameter!

72 psi boost, that'll explain why...

Ahhh the BRM V16 (or H16).

Have read stories of how undriveable the car was, because all hell broke loose at 7,000 rpm because thats where the 'real' power began, and kept going to 12,000 rpm😂
I think it also had some far out ignition system for that era that plagued its reliability.
No doubt a supercharger throwing out that much boost might make the engine a little 'finicky' aswell.

A beautiful engine, pity we don't see creativiy like this in F1 anymore.

I was lucky enough to see (and hear) Arnold Glass At Bathurst, about 50 years ago, driving the BRM. What a sound!🙄

Lucas provided the ignition - I think it was 4 magnetos.

Reminds me of a funny story about why the English drink warm beer? It's because their refrigerators are made by Lucas.😂😂

We also said "Lucas,Prince of darkness"!

The English also enjoy their cold pork pies because Lucas makes electric ovens. Lucas also once tried to diversify into making personal computers, but they couldn't work out how to make them drip oil.

There's also the mightly Offenhauser 4-cylinder DOHC racing engine, used in Indy racing and midgets for over 50 years. More than 900 hp with turbocharging.

The Offenhauser (Miller) engine was a direct 'pinch' of the 1912 Peugeot race engine. A lot of the parts were inter-changeable.🙄
