Naming your car

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/86724/naming-your-car

t1 time ·

It seems a lot of people like to give thier car a discriptive name ,a few come to mind like ,King Caddy,Swoop,Wild Cad,King Kong Cuda,Mr FC,etc . But the Volkswagen guys like human names eg john, fred, jack, What is your veiw and do you have a name for your car?

Midlife crisis ·

Yep We named our Igor because like Frankenstein's monster he is made from many people the baja is made from many cars

Over the years I've called my cars by many names - none that I can put on this forum - but I've never named any of them😀

vlad01 ·

I just call them what they are. eg. the notch, the EB, the VP, the ford GT etc...

I tried to name cars but I just can't, doesn't work. I think its a woman thing as i noticed nearly all women name their cars.

Yes ,that seems to be the case its a girly thing ,if you name your car the name must say something about it like lLow Bug ,Split Personality, Type threesome ,Karman Sutra ,rather than the name of your mothers second cousin who had one just like it.

That should stop the boys from replying!😂

rose ·

my drag bugs called BUZ
the oval is just the oval

Paulc1964au ·

Yeah not sure if i should post now lol

So I named my beetle Rosie well my daughter thought of the name actually.

The reason she named her Rosie is because my first car was a 67 VW and i used to driver around with a cassette deck playing ACDC.

Anyway I took my son and daughter this year to the ACDC concert and told my daughter I should have named her Rosie after "Whole lotta Rosie" so of course when I bought the beetle my daughter suggested Rosie

t_tuffnut ·

I've named my two beetles after things I've found in them during their strip down.

My 66 is called Cosmo, as I found a tow receipt made out to a Cosmo in the glove box, the 73 is called Floyd, as there was a Pink Floyd cassette in the back of it. Somehow these names have shaped how I view the cars, and added to their character. All my cars have ended up being named and I think it is a good thing.

I had a falcon that was hard to name for ages, until it's computer went crazy and made it dangerous to drive - It was then named HAL (as in 2001 Space odyssey).

Could be wishy washy thinking on my behalf, but it helps me to have a little more respect for them, as they are no longer just a machine to transport me from a to b. Kinda like how people get in a "Dog Psychologist" to talk to their dogs. All they do is BS a conversation with the dog, then tell the owners how to train it correctly and set up routines. Gets the owners to do the right thing under the guise of therapy for the dog. Believe it or not, but people pay good money for that service! (not me, I swear!)

I know that I am setting myself up for a serious dig, but that's my opinion anyway.

My vans name. Is brandy because it drove me
to drink and my teardrop camper is penny because thats all the money I was allocated to.build it

bugsandoil ·

We named our 62.5 bug Mary, because she was a one owner from a deceased estate car and Miss Mary ____ was the original owner,.. she managed never to have an accident in her. That's pretty good going we think. So we named the car in her honour.

helbus ·

The KOC.

My mrs loves the KOC

1971dubber ·

My 1971 convert is named Smurfette as she is "smurf blue" in colour, actually Ford XR6 blue.
My 1964/5 project is anmed Ruby, she is my little gem!~

vlad01 ·

ROFL, this is hilarious.

I'm man enough to admit to having a car with a name. My first Beetle was named by a friend of mine, who called it Bertie after the Bertie Beetle character from the showbags/chocolates. I refer to my current one simply as 'the red Beetle' at the moment. Some have suggested that it should be called The Red Baron but I don't really like this idea.

ryana89 ·

My car has the initials VAGarage on the top of the windscreen (previous owners VW buisness).
Due to this the car is now commonly reffered to as "The Vadge" amongst friends😀
But I like to follow the K.I.S.S rule and generally call it the Golf or VW.

vw54 ·

I thought it was only a Melbourne thing

h ·

I only call em by their model ie 54 or T5 or the plate I have on it like HMMM bus
I'm flat out remembering peoples names 😂

penguin ·

Nope - not a girl thing

my first car, a 76 beetle, was called Sebastian (after Sebastian Coe) as he was good at long distance runs - Canberra to Bris in 12hrs was the best.

The current square is called Osama as my licence plate is 911-IMH.

Imagine what would happen if KOC met VAG? 😂

You tried to insult me last week by accusing me of being from south of the border, but it turns out it's everywhere!! 😂

My boring daily drivers don't get names, because they are basically just tools, but when I got the Beetle, I followed the rules of Pete Wood's wife, which stipulate that the name must use the letters from the numberplate. So a G and a W didn't leave me many options, so Gwendolyn she is.

She doesn't always get called that, sometimes just 'the Beetle', but given that it is more than 'just a car' it's nice it has a name, and all my friends and work colleagues ask me about her by name, which is kind of funny.

Which is why our Beetle just had to be called the KOC. It was the numberplate that made us do it.

1971dubber ·

I have personalized plates so do I have to call my car my name?

ryana89 ·

A baby VW perhaps😁

vlad01 ·

then it would be BUB

bnicho ·

My modern cars usually don't get names, because they are too boring. But the old cars always do.

My Beetle is called "Olive" after my wife read the paint code sticker under the bonnet - "Martini Olive". That name has well and truly stuck, even our friends and neighbours refer to the car as Olive.

Similarly:
My Moke is called Mopoke as a shortened version of a mate calling it "Moke-with-no-poke".
My Mini Traveller is called Trixie.
The Corona Coupe is called Corrie.

VictoriaBelle ·

My '74 L bug is called Pumpkin - because she's big round and (funnily enough) orange!
My '61 bettle is called Victoria Belle - because we drove (from QLD) to Victoria to pick her up and she looked blue in the pictures (bluebell)

Come to think of it, I've only ever named my VW's! 🙂

Rumpole?

jonnyb ·

my one, when it was racing, was named by the Holden sporting car club in Brissie "Russell" because it had 30 odd foot of grunt - then nothing much after that sadly

beetleboyjeff ·

Horace is the black (evil) bug in one of the later Herbie (Love Bug) movies.

My buggy is called "Zak" coz the letters are ZZK and that's about all you can do with it.

You can think outside the box though. My wife's first car had the letter TSL so it was called... "Elliot". Think about it. 😉

plebs ·

My '65 beetle is called Gloria, because she survived.

pete wood ·

ok. I like that. 😎

tiddles ·

my 73 bug convertible is called phlip after my dad who passed away before i got him. as a child his friends couldn't say philip so hence phlip. i now feel like he's in the passenger seat with me as he's the one who gave me my love of bugs

Smiley ·

My Semi-auto beetle is named Eleanor like the car in Gone in 60 Seconds, because she stops running at the most inopportune moments 😂

Smiley 😎

70kombi ·

Ok. my 70 Kombi is called "Shaft" Because it's from the 70's it's big, black, and angry, just like the TV cop show from the 70's called "Shaft". 😏
Also because the wrecker I got it off used it to store tail shafts in.

The 70 Beetle I'm rebuilding for Princess Ferral (my daughterJanessa) is called "Nigel" after the character played by Paul Hogan. We figured that a semi gloss Beetle is what Nigel Lovlace 11 years of age, almost 12, would own when he was old enough. remember he did wear a matt black german helmet at one stage.

Pollywaffle ·

My notch is called Evie. The previous owner named it that and it kind of stuck. I can't think of any other names that stick. I feel as if the car gets offended if I call it anything else 😂

donn ·

My buggy has several names......"Bugeye" because it has bug eyes and it's a buggy...........the" little wench" because I have always kinda liked wenches and I kinda like this little wench.......... and sometimes "you bastard" but not too often these days as it's been behaving it selfe lately. 😁
