I have been watching TV all morning, looks like a disaster of huge proportions, our thoughts are with all those who are currently battling the floods
Joel ·
8 people confirmed dead now from that freak flood through toowoomba
matberry ·
Yep, close for us but a meter to spare, we were flooded in sunday & monday but water receeded for now. Now the people a little further south are copping it big time.
Stay safe peeple
donn ·
Just been watching some of the vision from Toowoomba, can't believe the courage shown by many people risking their own safety to rescue others, if they fell over or were washed off their feet by the raging water they would stand little chance, hope all goes as good as possible in the circumstances.
ancientbugger ·
Just called my son at work in Pomona to come home as the roads around here are going under. My garage is more of a mess than ever!!!😬

Who would have thought that possible !!! 😂😂
Hope we don't get too much more Barry.
A client was booked in today from Kin Kin, they rang to cancel, but explained how with so much local flooding they had no phones yesterday and were flood bound but remarkably they were able to go to Gympie by back roads for some needed supplies but the supermarket was quite empty. They said they did get some dramatic views of the flooded township.
Joel ·
What country other than Aus could have one side flooding in an area the size of Germany and France put together then the other side on fire due to major drought 🤪
ancientbugger ·
I've said many times if oil or gas was involved they'd quickly build a pipeline so why not pielines around Oz maybe following the railway network. All this water when it dissipates will just flow out to sea the same as in the northern tropics. I'm no genious but surely it must be practical in the long run. If the mafia could start up a city in the middle of a desert in the 30's that now has a population of over a million plus 8 million visitors a year surely a government could figure out how to do this. Then again the Qld government completely fu*=+d up peoples lives with the Traveston dam project!🙁
flying 58 ·
Half of Ipswich has been evacuated including the factory I work at and they are saying wivenhoe dam will be at 200% in 24 hours so we are all bracing for the worst
h ·
ipswich is being inundated n the brisbane river has broken it's banks in some places
if you are in a low lying area move to higher ground n take ur pride n joy if it's safe to do so
it's easier to replace ur ride than you or your family
please stay safe out there in SE Qld
Paulc1964au ·
they have announced 6500 homes and businesses will go under water by thursday in the Brisbane area and 16000 homes will be affected
DubbyFan ·
All the best to those in Queensland, our thoughts are with you!
kombibob ·
I just made it home but had to leave the car on the mountain road as this came down seconds before we got here.
hope every one else is safe.

Stay safe all those in affected areas. I trust the rest have us have made our donations where we can to help out those in the bad areas.
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Knocked off work at 1pm after moving everything inside our offices etc to higher ground. Hopefully the higher tides combined with flood waters don't do too much damage.
We'll see what i find when I go tomorrow!!
Car Wash might be under water LOL!!

hope your all well

We are in Ipswich and as you can tell by the time of this post I wont be going to bed anytime soon. Thankfully we are good so far but did get some water through my shed (lucky dubs not too low yet lol). Anyone else in Ipswich who needs a hand shoot us a PM and we will do our best to help out however we can.
penguin ·
Jay and I are safe and dry now. Water into the sheds yesterday but nothing into the house, thank god.
The road in front of the house was a small river flowing bloody fast.
Unfortunately a number of houses down the street aren't as high as my place and they went under or through their houses.
Our removals may not happen as planned I suspect.
Good luck to all in Ipswich proper, Brisbane and now the folk down in NSW who are about to cope all of this as well.
vwjon ·
can you pass this on please.
people in the floods, please update facebook and twitter accounts etc, your friends and reletives abroad are very worried about you. contact from outside Aus is very difficult.
thanks guys.
h ·
in brisvenice just to give u an update I just heard on the abc 24 tv that this is potentially gunna be worse than 1974 flood heights.. there will be a brisbane river flood peak this arvo @ 4.5m with a bigger peak at 4am tomoro morning @ 5.5m coupled with the king tides.. this is bigger than 1974.
I just saw them on tv push an orange fat chick outta the flood water at Rosalie up the hill 🙁

Bit of vid taken earlier today (8:30am)... Yes that is a fridge floating downstream.
We are in Kangaroo Point but should be alright at 5.5m but much more and I will be looking to stash the beetle in some high ground...
Joel ·
Hoping everyone in affect areas has stocked up on supplies
Supermarkets look abit chaotic...
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Sandbagged work this morning from 6.30am till 12.30pm and moved everything that could be damaged by the water. Did this in hope that we could keep the cafe and offices dry but by 3pm we already had 200mm of water on the floors inside and slowly climbing. At least the water outside is a lot higher!! Going to be big hit on the pay packet this week with no work for the next 2-3 days or so and only doing 2 half days earlier in the week due to weather.....

My daughter & son in law are on fairly high ground in Springwood, if you don't mind parking your beetle with 2nd generation VWs (NB & Mk 4 VR6 Golf).
Give me a holler if you want contact details or anything.

its going to take a long long time for Queensland to recover from this....
Brisbane too...
Houses filled with mud etc.... if the house is still there...
all contents lost...
Hundreds of cars lost...
thousands of computers lost...
No electricity--
No sewerage-
no water -
no phone or internet..
I really feel for anyone involved in the floods....
vlad01 ·
Victoria is getting floods too. Not as bad though but still.
My Friend in Kyneton had a landslide go through the back door, through the house and out the front.
Kyneton is apparently water logged. I live 10Ks out of this town and our house got damaged. So much rain that out massive 25 cm deep gutters could not take that rain
and flowed over and back against the walls. 2 story house it is. So now we have water coming out of the ceiling in 3 rooms and one of them was so bad the ceiling fell in 👎
rose ·
this is really bad, I hope every one is safe
yesterday when I went to Woolworths they are taking donations for the flood relief so I donated some cash every little bit helps.

Unlike those affected by the floods in QLD, Northern NSW or VIC, I have been able to watch from the comfort of my house in Sydney.
I can't begin to imagine the pain, suffering and loss these people are experiencing. One day having their home and loved ones, and the next losing it all. While we all feel we have something to complain about, it is nothing compared to those that have either lost loved ones, property or both.
The story that stood out to me was the 13 year old boy who was being rescued from his car, but told the rescuer to take his 10 year old brother first and handed his younger brother to the rescuer. By the time the rescuer took the 10 year old and went back for the 13 year old, it was too late. The flood waters washed him and his mother down the river.
No matter what nature throws at us, we bounce back, albeit battered and bruised. Hopefully it makes us stronger and wiser for the experience, and not to have the same repeated, or at least be better prepared for such an event.
It's events such as this that brings the true spirit out in people and makes us what we are. We are not Queenslanders, New South Welshmen, Victorians, etc. We are Australians and we do help one another when needed, and without a second thought.
I am sure that with all the help (money, food, clothing, building materials, etc) offered, all the people affected recently will find the strength within themselves to rebuild their lives and put this disaster behind them. It will take time, but time overcomes all ills.
Best wishes to all and keep safe.
Norman

I'm pretty impressed that I heard Indonesia has offered financial and military help. I know Australia sent money etc when the tsunami hit them but that is what we come to expect being a western 1st world country but when it comes back the other way it takes you by surprise. Good on them. The kiwis are already helping out according to the news up in Central Queensland, the poms (god bless us...sorry Them!) and the yanks have offered financial and military aid but according to the Defence Minister today we have more than enough equipment to cope. On the other hand I can't believe there were people complaining about the noise of the armys' helicopters!!! Get a life for chrissakes!
h ·
I hope all that are affected by floods can keep ya chin up and still smile
thinking of you guys n gals
hang in there

boss lady and myself are fine, my sisters place closer to the river than you sides is fine, just- stopped a few houses down i think, family friends place.... not so fine, cleared it out today, found a snake & $100! the snake was large & very alive, thankfully hid in the rubbish pile as we finished, next up is another family friends in moores pocket (google it if your curious people 🙂)
oh, thankfully bricks & concrete dont absorb water/mud, gyproc on the other hand... gotta love spongey cardboard 😢

Local flooding is still prominent, we still have to detour to get out of edens landing on the south side but none the less dropping. The smell is bad enough here, i don't even want to imagine the stench over at brissy.
Anna Bligh is doing a great job leading qld through this 👍

It's really hard to imagine the scope of the flooding and the devastation. Hopefully the worst of it is over now.

It's true. VW's do float. Look at that bug's level in the water compared to the people pushing it.
On a more serious note. Not only do flood victims have to put up with the loss of just about everything, they have to put up with low life looters.
It defeats my understanding how people can steal from others. Especially at a time like this. These people are so low they could walk under the belly of a snake with a top hat on without knocking the hat off.
Sides ·
Good to hear you're both doin OK STIDUB.
Give us a bell if you need help or anything, and stay safe out there dude

penguin wants the oval shifted on sunday if the roads allow it, id say your trailer will be easier to get to than the mates in karana downs, not even sure if his house is there - they are camping down the coast & cant get home, 10m water over road one way, 15 the other, and not sure on the 3rd option, but its only 1-2 blockages now instead of 10-20 🙂
Paulc1964au ·
hope the beetle made it too dry land

yep.. that beetle was at rosalie n was pushed up to the dry n then up the hill
was good to watch on the telly 🙂

My brothers house was completely inundated he is an invalid pensioner So he is incapable of any work I had to climb in to his house yesterday through the only window that we could Jimmy open because the doors were swollen shut I called a couple of mates to get a hand and they both called mates to give a hand then a complete stranger walked up and offered help which we gratefully accepted within an hour of kicking off we had 7 people on deck not long after 4 young people showed up asking if they could help carrying lawn mowers weed eaters etc we were very great full it turned out they were a group of young surfers from up at noosa and let me tell you they looked like they kind of guys that wouldn't work in an iron lung but they busted there guts with us for hours on end during all this we had ses showing up we had complete strangers showing up with espies full of drinks and sangers council workers cleaning the footpath local builders borrowing out there tools the local ice companies giving out bags of ice and all out of the goodness of there hearts let me tell you people this moved me I have never in all my life encountered such community spirit every body that piched in did so until the last piece of shit and filth was removed and or cleaned and believe me when I tell you that the stench was nauseating i cant thank any of these people enough and when I tried to they just brushed it of like it was nothing I consider my self the luckiest bastard on earth an I now have a true feeling of community thank you thank you thank you
Paulc1964au ·
that is just so inspiring to read, hows your brothers house looking now? Will it need much repair work after the clean?
flying 58 ·
His house seems structurally ok but the walls were damaged and i think are asbestos which could cause more difficulties he has no water no power and has a long wait for insurance builders plumbers electricians etc but he's got accommodation suitable to his requirements so all things considered I think all will work out well in the end
Dasdubber ·
Hey Adam, hope your brother can get his house sorted out soon. Myself and a group of mates went up from the gold coast yesterday and headed out to Ipswich to lend a hand - ended up at Booval and basically ripped off every wall and roof sheeting in one lady's house as the water was up to the gutters - all the insulation in the ceiling was water logged so hopefully that helped to keep the asbestos dust out of our lungs 🙂
Basically there was nothing in their house that could be saved, very sad not only for the loss of property and possessions but also the families of all those people further up stream that lost love ones.
Cheers
AL

Hey Alan thanks for helping out , my brothers dissabilitys have helped him with fast tracking accommodation, and financial aid. unlike alot of other people like the holders of pensioners insurance who are finding out they are only entitled to $15000 total compensation ,it's unfortunate that these stories have been heard over and over and are still happening to those poor buggers in Victoria I just hope that all works out in the end
