That sounds pretty harsh. The whole SA rego fee for a year is less than $700, including CTP insurance.

don't forget and be sure to check!......if you have a safe driving record you recieve substantual discounts but the onus is on the payee to declare and check!
even with the same company for several years, the first "offer" arrives with total being the standard amount, not the discount i have recieved from previous years
don't get ripped off by missing this loop hole

$700!
just renewed 2 beetles at $363 each nrma, gov reg pricing mostly so should not be more than $410odd?

Checked the competition and most of them are close to that mark! Last year's was around $550, how on earth can it jump $150?
How's everyone else's greenslip price for their old vw's this year?
Campbelltown! That says it all!! Just kidding. My rego is due soon on my '65 bug and just did an online comparison. GIO is the cheapest at $469.22.
Is your car modified? Your age, driving record, insurance level and postcode, etc has a lot to do with the premium.
I guess this is just another way to get old cars off the road. Make them expensive to insure and register.

being in the sydney metro area adds more on too, compared to our country cousins. All i can say is welcome to nsw where the motorist is screwed many ways 馃槀
rob53 路
I'm 27 and have a clean driving record and full no claim bonus business. Car is completely stock and fully insured. The policies have all that stuff recorded, so it 'should' be discounted already. Each year I hope the insurance price is supposed to go cheaper as I get older, yet I have never had the price go down.
By the time I'm 55 there will probably be an under 55 excess added!
I'd ride a bike, but public transport is a bit iffy down here 馃槀
Maybe I should get a fake ID and make another identity in another state to get cheaper insurance! 馃槀

welcome to my world, its now under 30, but i expect that to change as im 31 this year.
i never go with the price on the sheet as they dont put all the discounts on there. just another way for them to make money as most people dont bother to check they just pay it.
i use the calculator above, but one thing with it it doesnt ask when your bday is, just the year you were born. so it can work in your favour as they have advertised that price and have to honour it.

I never accept the renewal advice letter, I ring around, well I'll be, I get a better price, unbelievable 馃槵then let my feet do the walking (all the way from where I park the car), go into their office and ask for a quote, invariably a better price again 馃槵, and then I tell em I can get it 5%-10% cheeper, they invariably match the price site unseen 馃槵馃槵,I still reckon the driver should be the insured, not the car, if I had 6 cars I would be paying 6 premiums although I can drive only one at a time (well I can only drive one, don't know about other people)

We all have to get used to living in a capitist system were investor expect 10% return a year

Rob53. Check your policy again. I just got my renewal and it showed it as being $684.03 up from $404 last year. Then I noticed that they didn't have me as being comprehensively insured on my renewal. Got in contact with the insurance company and they quoted me as per my earlier post. It's more bearable but not happy that it's still more than a 10% jump from last year.
I wish my wages would increase by the same amount.
rob53 路
Sadly no, policy was correct. I also called them up and they refused to budge. Their response was sorry to hear that you will be going to someone else! 馃檮

Yeah. That's the way it is now. Loyalty accounts for nothing and companies seem quite happy to let customers go.

My rego for the commodore was $263 for 12 months.
we talking about rego right?

no vlad we arent.

If you mean motorbike. In Vic a motorbike is about the same as a car to register/ CTP insure
rob53 路
Got a 250 motorcycle also, it used to cost $100 for CTP, but they raised that to over $400 this year also! (But that is thanks only to the NSW government, not the insurers)
Soon enough there will be registration and CTP for bicycles if the government has their way.
Your right about lack of loyalty to customers. Silly thing is that over the last year I transfered all my vehicles CTP and comprehensive insurance plus house insurance to one company. 馃お

Bike greenslips have gone up something shocking.
Assholes don't miss ya,
Paying 3 regos and insurance a year back when I was under 25 was killing me but lining their pockets nicely 馃お
I was pretty pissed that I only got to enjoy being over that under 25 hump for a few years then the pricks changed it to under 30 but this is the last year I gotta deal with that.
Knowing my luck they'll now turn around and change it to under 40
Flintstones 路
just got my wifes green slip and its over $472!!!!
just checked the rego and its $446!!!
from memory I think I paid about $700-750 last year all up and even that's way excessive.
what the hell is going on with all these organisations, do they think that we are all made of money!馃槵馃槵
Donn, I think you've raised a very good point that it should be the driver not the car.
Also what's the make of year of your car and post code got to do with the insurance???? from what I understood, this insurance was to cover humans involved in an accident....
65standard 路
Not to be seen to be playing devil's advocate, I guess the age of the car has a lot to do with its safety. A 1965 VW, Holden etc will not have the same safety features as the current or recent models.
I'm at a loss why the postcode has anything to do with CTP insurance. Maybe it's a silent agenda to get old cars off the road since the cash for clunkers scheme has failed.
Joel 路
I don't think vehicle age plays into it that much, my mainstreamer is nearly 30 years newer than my bug yet I pay the same greenslip cost on both of them.
The postcode is a metro vs rural thing I think.
Out here in the sticks we're probably more likely to have serious accidents than someone living in the city due to shitty country roads and higher speed limits.
But from an insurance perspective vehicle theft is also alot higher in the city.
65standard 路
I guess we'll never find out the true reason for the premiums. If we want our old cars on the road, we have to pay for them.

Hi
I received My beetle NRMA Greenslip in December and paid it...
without looking up the greenslip NRMA website as I usually do..
when I did... a few weeks later..
I had paid over $200 extra because My Beetle shows up as Not fully insured... by NRMA Vintage Classic insurance...
so, I contacted them and received a nice cheque back in the mail
NOW...
I should have know as this happens every year....
but I usually check on the NRMA greenslip website...
so, If Your greenslip company dosen't know Your VW is fully insured You could be paying too much....
way too much.....
A few years ago, My Wife had an accident in a car, and the NRMA had the two cars fixed etc....
but when the next NRMA greenslip arrived it was Much Much more expensive... so I rang, and they told Me it had gone up because We had made a claim on insurance.... ???
so, I just rang AAMI and got the old green slip price.... lol
LEE
They are getting tougher though....
I really believe that no insurance company wants anyone who
is going to have an accident... or even a speeding ticket...
or if You are under 35....
