its my first car drove the 3 and a bit hours back to melb in the pissing rain
leaking a little under the dash wich i need to do something about asap
runs great and handles very well but we got to the corner of the nepean and hampton street and she stopped dead, would not turn over but i will say there was a little red light with a g in a circle on it and it was lit up
now would that be generator?
gotta go back in the morning to sort her out but may just need some one in the know on vws to come take a lookj
any ideas lads
cheers
eccles
ECCLES ·
went and got her this morning, started first go but i think there is a generator problem and the damn trunk is stuck, i pulled the little lever to no avail
took some snaps of her in my driveway
shes a little rough with a couple wrinkles to iron out
but i will tell you these things are a love affair, hope top get my first car sorted asap
type3diesease has already been a great help
ECCLES ·
she has done 1100 kms in the last 24 hours so she is forgiven for the little things
Joel ·
Got the engine lid open yet?
I would be very anxious to atleast check the oil level of an old vw I'd only just bought after driving 3.5 hours.
hellbugged ·
pull the lever while some one else jigles the boot
Those levers are often tight and it will need to be pulled the full extent of its travel
The previous owner will know the secret procedure to get it open
Fastie ·
Are you pulling the lever in the glovebox - or have you figured there's one in the passenger door latch area.
With the dash leaks it is a easy fix. Just pour water down the bonnet vents to loosen the shit up. Then remove the rubber hoses that run down under the dash to the gutter hole and blow hard in them. Have a container ready to catch all the black gunk and death water that comes pouring out. If you're not quick enough you'll swallow it (lesson learned).
Then to finish connect it all together and pour boiling water through to give it a final clean out.

verryyyy nice notch. well done!
ECCLES ·
a local guy to me came around and showed me what needs to be done
had a great chat and the things i need to do are all little

I like it and looks like alot of fun to be had Eccles!
zocstar ·
Looks good man. Good luck. I love the rug.

Just thinking some times the main wire to the auto gear selector can be lose or frayed at connection after years , just check easy to pull apart It is under the auto shift. always a shame to see the rust. cool mudflaps.
hellbugged ·
get the standard air cleaner assembly back on.......that way the engine sucks in fresh air not the pre heated air from the engine bay
and you'll be able to plumb up the breather to it.... win win!
make sure the drians in the bottoms of the doors are clear and get some fish oil in there as well as the lower edges of the boot and bonnet.....yeah and have fun with it!
put the horn back in front of the spare wheel where it belong 🙅
oh neato notch by the way 😎
beetleboyjeff ·
The look on the cutie's face says it all I reckon 🙂
modulus ·
Sorry I didn't see your post yesterday; I live close by. Nice auto notch!

I think you've lost claim of ownership to the cutie. I know that from experience, my little one has been telling me for years it's her car.
ECCLES ·
so i gotta get a new alternator plug some rust and will be all good to go
ECCLES ·

This reminds me a lot of my first dub. Adding to what Fastie said, I used a coat hanger to poke to shit out of those dash hoses. Lots of dead bugs in there. Re the problem that stopped the car, check the regulator under the rear seat (small box 2 inches by inches). Take a lid off, and see if the contact points have any grit in them. Get a small file and clean them out.
SPRINTSTAR ·
Please be careful and check the condition of the sidewall on your tyres, those whitewalls will cut through them eventually!

Enjoy!
wolfgang54 ·
nice car mate. awesome first ride. love the magic carpet 😎
your obviously young lol (careful tongue in cheek humour follows) photos of all sorts of 'cool' commercial branding stickers on the car, skateboard on the rear shelf that will kill you in a accident and a "trunk" (we have boots here in aus!).

I had the blue Repco Dragster!
Noted you have a road bike with the leather Brooks saddle, first class, a 'worn in' Brooks are supremely comfortable!
I remember in the 1970's a dragster with radial car tyre type tread on rear wheel and was fitted with a rear disk brake? do you have one or seen one, know the brand of bike?
ECCLES ·

Nice notch and bikes mate!
I think we have similar tastes. I just bought a notch too ('65 model), and I have a thing for "vintage" bikes also. I only have half a dozen or so, and most are road/racers so I'm not in your league yet.
Cheers
cruiser ·
Are you putting all this stuff online via a TRS80 or commodore 64??

dragsters for life ·
all sorted so heres an update on my car
cha cha changes
dragsters for life ·
and i have started to build one for the wife, april 1972 wagon for her birth day and she was born in april 82
heres as i got it
was purchased for parts but no rust and solid as a rock so i decided to build it instead
after a broom off and beam shoved in
and after a bath
then time for a cut
during the cut, no polish as yet
its missing the engine, steering colum and tank, i have purchased another late to wreck and i will be keeping them parts for this
my mate chrisso is also building one so he will take the front beam dash and all knobs from the wreck
my mate dave will take bumpers
and marcus will get the panels ( same color and in better nick than his )
so all in all we have everything on one car for the 3 we are building
dave gave me these for this car yesterday
and i purchased these for 5 bucks from the dandy trash and treasure market
i have popouts for it and may paint the roof white as its worm thru the paint on one side
white stock wheels with dress rings whitewall flappers and bullet centres, or maybe a set of 14 globes with the inners painted black ( i already have a set that came from another car )
roof rack is a must
venetions
eyebrows and mesh light grills
interior is perfect just needs a clean
and thinking and painting it a faux woodie but not real sure as yet
while im here i may aswell let you know that im picking up some hoodies and t shirts tomorrow that will have this on the front
so theres an update, i have managed to sort out my account and can now log in
if interested in hoodies or ts hit me up as i will have a couple to move on
i had them made for our little crew of type 3 owners
TYPE 3 CONTINGENT, there are about 10 of us and we all drive type 3s and all have projects on the go, we will be doing summer type 3 drives so if interested let us know
cheers
