We saved an unfinished project as he was left sitting for years with no paint and had lots of surface rust.
We took 20 hours to sand all the rust off and we just painted him with $79 tin of clear paint, put him all back together and added a 1916 motor and his a goodie

That's our workshop Ian Rose Automotive Services at Rutherford they are all our bugs we mainly work on the usual family car not vw's as a rule as there's not enough around to make a living from.
We do put on a vw run once a year at the workshop check out the link below

Rose's motor is the pobjoy steroids street combo from over 20 years ago.........they were good for 15.3@86mph, so Rose is very close to those times, which is an excellent result considering her motor was bought 2nd hand !!

Yeah not bad for a old motor fitted to a early 6volt gear box with the bell housing ground out to take the 12 volt flywheel and with about a foot between gear changes with the old 54 gear stick 🤪 here is Portland vw drags in Dragster Australia

put the old engine that I've been drag racing with over the last few years that I've given a thrashing and all we've done after each drag event is changed to oil with some castrol edge sport 10w/60 and checked tappets haven't had to change points, spark plugs or adjust timing at all.
So today we thought we would put it on the Dyno to see what HP it actually has
I was rather surprised that it had 79.5HP at the wheels and was still climbing. We where suprised with the result.
The dyno guys backed it off as it was a bit loud in there shop with the stinger on it.

on the week end we took it out to the
Retro Rocket Day at WSID for its first run with the new engine and gear box combo
my first run I did a 13.85 on the 1/4 mile with 8psi boost
it was great to be able to actually try it out on the track it was awsome😂😂
Nice work Rose. I'd completely forgotten about the Turbo when I saw it out on the weekend- tripped out when you started laying down those times!

Well I had 7 runs and I won 5
still getting the hang of the turbo as it bogged down off the start twice and two runs had some side action going off the start but it was heaps of fun

best time was the 13.853. @7psi shifting @5000rpm
The last few runs last night at WSID the motor got a bit fuely off of the start and a bit of clutch slip shifting to forth.
I think the rancho box and AJ Sims motor has past their test

We went up to the work shop to do a bit of maintenance on a couple of our VWs, getting them ready for racing in 2012.
The Nude Bug clutch was slipping the last few racers changing into top gear.
It looks like it just got a bit hot as it was a stock VW clutch plate.
We changed it to a HD clutch plate.
The 1970 red street Bug that Rose racers at Wakefield Park at the vw nationals clutch started to shudder the other week going to work.
On removing it we found that it looks like someone had did some mods on the clutch plate. some bits had come loose.
It's been it the car since 1990s not bad I guess as its never driven easy .
All back together. 😁😁
cleaned the wheels and waxed it the other day and it's ready to race.😊

I would recommend to check out a USA vw show .😊
VW Classic or Bugorama or just on a holiday.
I am glad that I picked up a copy of dune buggies and Hot VWs and just went around to the vw shops that had adds in it.
we meet some very nice vw people.
