$40. ok if your a vee dub supplier.
our swap meet when we had one was a gold coin DONATION...... if I remember correctly.
Hmmmmn
The swap meet actually attracts MANY People...
Good for the Nationals... Good for everyone...
but.. $40 plus $50 + or so for petrol [depending on where You live]
and We ALL don't live down the road from the venue...
$15 is enough IMHO...

but if the economy is slow, you should REDUCE your prices.

Hopefully, most people would do the right thing.
Of course, then it makes it hard for the club to budget for the show, as in how much will change hands, and how much will be declared. Still, I suppose now, they don't know how many stall holders they will have anyway, although I assume they would have some idea from past shows.
It may be something the club could look at - or maybe it is only a few people on here concerned about it?
68AutoBug ·
its either $10 or $20 to enter the venue.... per person...shokwave2 wrote:Sorry, but can i confirm: $40 is if you're setting up a stall, is that correct?
$15 if you're just browsing?
it has been the same for years..
but upping the cost to sellers isn't good...
a lot of lookers want to grab a bargain at the swap meet...
but upping the cost to sellers will keep a lot away... IMHO..
ESPECIALLY the small sellers..

if the swap meet dwindles then so will admissions
so its a no brainer keep it cheap and attract more stalls

Spot on👍
vw54 ·
theres heaps of costs with putting the event on the venue cost approx 4K and is increasing every year
In case you didnt realise its been $30.00 for a few years Plus $10.00 for an admission fee as well So theres your $40.00 we just did it this way as last time people were winging about the extra $10.00 to get in and paying 2 fees
In fact last year was a BUMPER year for Swap stands we have to push them out of the under cover area as theres TOO MANY
I know of many swappers who go home with very FAT pockets
If you dont want to come along thats fine just sell yr stuff on Ebay and see what fees it attracts
Top Idea Geoff we would make even MORE funds for the ClubI wonder if some sort of percentage on takings would work. It would have to be some sort of voluntary scheme
laroche ·
Stands to reason that the more stalls there are, the more people will come, increase in visitors covers the $10 fee.
I only go to it for the stuff for sale, other than that its mostly the same old cars year after year.
Hutcho ·
Can't win em all hey Dave!
I'm looking forward to the TWENTY FOURTH successful Nationals.
vw54 ·
And so do the 50 or so swappers that attend and sell there trinkets
thanks Hutcho
YEP it does but the price is $40.00The price of the stall should include the admission fee

as for you whinging that its expensive, lets look at a one of others major events
valla $44 outside $71 inside link http://volkswagenspectacular.com/?page_id=81
i think that the price is fair, as for i cant leave my stand and go and have a look, thats your problem for going by yourself id suggest ether setting up next to someone you know so they can watch the site while you have a look or bringing someone with you that can watch it while you wander.
as for the im already out of pocket before getting there, do you think your the only one that travels to these events, just factor in what you have to make to break even.

I reckon they should put the entry fee up to about $100. Then on the way out we all get a $60 rebate. Club VW is happy they've taken in $40K. I'm happy I've been given a $60 subsidy. Some middle man takes $20 each admin fee. Everyone feels warm and fuzzy then!
I have to confess this is not entirely my own idea. I borrowed substantially from the carbon tax scheme.
LUFTMEISTER ·
Don't you love how the only example they list is probably the only dearer swap meet on the east coast of Australia. Nearly all the swap meets I attend are between $5 & 20 dollars and that includes the car occupants.🙅

Nah dont , just kidding topic's like this are what forums are great for. Where real interest discussion and opinion can be shared. Now that such topics get shafted I believe the forum has suffered.
If you dont believe me compare the daily traffic we get now to when this forum was in its hey day.

the whole idea of going to a swap is also to also find a bargain where the seller just wants rid of there stuff and happy with a couple of extra bucks spending money.
Greedy swap meet holders are only turning it to ebay on wheels. by forcing the stall holders to up there prices. just not the same is it.
ive been away for a few months, i see BARLS still has to go opposite to the grain. on ya barls!!!!!!
lets hope they get the message of what is being said in this forum before barls shuts it down.

if you want to call one of the vw clubs a bunch of rip off merchants, go for it yourselves. dont put words in my mouth by trying to twist what im saying.
i did notice that most of the ones that had cheaper site prices also had a higher entry fee. so go figure we are talking about a lower entry fee with a higher site fee.

now im greatful - cheers for the constructive opinions.
would it make anyone feel any better if the respective club events had a list of how much the spend to make the day happen compared to how much they get out of each potential entrant?
how many would be shocked to see that theres no profit in car clubs?
how many have forgotten that fact?
see all the other people happy to have VW shows/swap meets there!
im driving from brissy for it, so are alot of watercooled people, must be mad!

It is $40.00.
That is nothing, when comes to the cost of pursuing our Classic VW hobby.
Think of all the benefits of selling/swapping parts @ the Nationals.
1 - All those VW enthusiasts trawling your stall.
2 - Not having to take photos and uploading them to various sites.
3 - Not having to organise postage and handling.
4 - Receiving payment, immediately.
5 - Location, location, location.
40 bucks, it is worth it for the convenience and easier advertising.
Zayus
Note: I am not affliated with Club VeeDub, although, I have been to plenty of their shows.
And, I did prefer the old outdoor site @ Parklea, to the current site @ Fairfield.
There is nothing quite like the shine of a vintage VW or a hot Cal-Looker under sunshine and blue skies.

On one side guys complaining about spending well worth $40 for swap stand inc. entry in a well organized show (which makes them sound like tight asses)
On the other side an organizer complaining about the complainers and throwing smart remarks instead of motivating them into coming to the show.
Let's put the bullshit aside and try to make this a really cool awesome event, cause its the patrons and their cars that make the day fun,
all the organizers can and have done in the past to their credit is to actually put a good show ON.

they all moaned when they killed off the drags at the nats but we all know that no-one would actually pay the entry fee to pay for it ! WSID cost lots more to hire than Fairfield showground
I am pretty certain that the supersprint has cost the club money every year also
when you look at how much space a swap meet space takes up compared to a car in the show its not bad value plenty of people must agree spending hundreds in fuel to get there
If you cant justify it dont do it
value for money is a concept VW people dont really get! why else would you be spending porsche money on Kombis

Charge everyone $40 because obviously they are going to save money at the swap meet (and they live in Sydney and are used to being fleeced) by not paying retail and GST, so it's win-win money spinner.👍👍🤪

I pay anything from $50 to $70 for a day. At the Tattoo Expo I paid my part of $1500 (shared between 3 vendors) for a 3 day event. Wintersun is $450 for the three days. Obviously the organiser has to make a profit too in some way from you being there using their space to sell your products. That's business. If I could pay $40 for every market I went to I'd be a happy man. You have to remember here that Club VW are taking on all of the third party insurance liability, because I bet not all of the swappers have third party insurance.
Whilst running a market stall and running a swap stall are slightly different, with different overheads and profit margins, the theory is the same - you have the advantage of a captive audience to put money in your pocket. The organisers in providing the captive audience have to be able to make some money as well out of the equation. If you're selling $400 worth of stock through the swapmeet, $40 is nothing.
