I like to read Ultra VW and Volks world what are you guys reading and why isit good?
hypo-vw ·
for me , VWMA without a doubt . Craig is on the right track with this one ....
Keeps us informed on a wide range of VW events , restorations , daily drivers and just general VW chit-chat from all around the country .
Without this quality magazine we all would be at a great loss , and in the dark regarding the VW scene in Australia .

Has anyone looked through the 'AirMighty' off the CB Performance website?
I am thinking about getting them shipped over. The $ is good at the moment, and they are reasonable on postage.
Would love to hear comments on the mag.... feel free to PM me if the response is not 'favorable'.
Paulc1964au ·
I only subscribe to two VWMA because it is a good Australian publication and hotvw's as i enjoy some of the modified vw's that are featured

I have a few issues, they're interesting, the photography and quality is great, but the writing is a let down both in interest and length, because they squeeze three languages in for each article.
Hot VWs is OK, but I prefer UltraVW, VolksWorld and VWMA (in no particular order).
VWMA is almost compulsory here, I think Craig does a great job. VolksWorld tends to keep a foot in each of the stock and modified camps, whilst UltraVW tends towards the modified end of town.
What Volksworld do, which I wish the rest did, is have wallpapers available on their site of the cars from each issue, which lets you download and have a much closer look at things then you can in a magazine.
It would be good if they included more photos that aren't in the magazine as well.
vw54 ·
dont choose
read them all like me LOL 🙄🙄
sander288 ·
I always buy VWMA - no matter what the features are.
With the others they are a bit pricey to buy every month; so I only get the ones that I really want to read
If I was forced to pick a mag though I would of picked VWTrends but it's gone now - so next up would be Volksworld (all of the above after VWMA)

RISKY4LIFE ·
yup VWMA all the way i used to buy Ultra
and i must re subscribe dang two years comes around fast
Wayne is spot on it's great for the AU scene

Yep, VWMA is certainly my favourite. I especially like the Australian content and advertisers, and storys on people, cars, and events that I know.
I also love the fact that Craig is a VW person who puts a LOT of effort into making sure his magazine is as factually correct as he can get it, and covers as wide a range of VWs as possible.

Ill agree with most VWMA! Thanks Craig
Dak-A-Tak ·
Any vw mag that has drag racing and storys that I havn't seen before.
Anyone notice how thin Hotvw's is now ( lost about 30pages)
Just shits me when they all have the exact same story , word for word or car feature story to .
robb ·
im finding it harder all the time to find a place that keeps other vw mags any ideas in sydney
Iris-the-lovebug ·
My local newsagent loves me... I get all 4! 🤪
Ultra VW, Hot VWs, Volksworld, and VWMA. But VWMA rules. If I had to pick one, that would be the one I'd pick.
I only wish it was monthly or bi-monthly... 😵

Volksworld, then UltraVW, vwma was OK when it started but it has too many adverts and always features an advertisers car? Also too much on the Formula Vee, I guess it's because the owner is into it.
Volksworld has started to run readers rides and is getting more down to grass roots level
Birdman ·
Airmighty is the cream of the crop for me but it's not a magazine its a MEGASCENE 😂

Ever tried to run a magazine with no adverts? Costs would put the magazine out of production unless you had very deep pockets. As for featuring an advertisers car why not if it's good enough? And as for Formula Vees yes Craig does own one now but he has been covering them for a long time now as well as the drag racing, circuit racing and hillclimb events.
If you participate in a motorsport event in a VW then send Craig the blurb with good quality pics and he more than likely try to fit it in the mag somewhere. VWMA is becoming more and more the heart and soul of the VW community in Australia along with forums like these.
Why do you think there has been such a revival in drag Racing VW's in the last 5 odd years??
One answer ...... VWMA and the man behind it. Went out on a limb and set something up that is now a must for all Volksy nuts to attend and compete in.
My hat off to you Craig and the efforts you put into the mag. Gets bigger and better each issue that's for sure!!

Alright another gripe regarding the Aussie mag.
How come it has the shows featured but never says who actually won?
Doesn't the photographer bother to stay to the end? But surely if you are going to feature a show a phone call to the organizers would inform them of the winners?
PHAT BUG ·
dubai wrote:I like to read Ultra VW and Volks world what are you guys reading and why isit good?
I get Volksworld, VWMA, Airmighty & Ultra VW religiously.
Also HotVWs every now and then.
There isn't much in HotVWs that interests me, if you picked up a copy from the 80's not much would have changed, only really get it if there is something in it I really want to read.
I love Volksworld & Ultra VW, I think they're more in line with the current "scene"
VWMA is great because it's local, most of the content doesn't appeal to me, but there's always at least something of interest in every issue. The show coverage is great. Like I said it's great as it's local, thats why I get it.
But the number 1 pick for me is Airmighty! It's more of a coffee table book than a magazine, It is by far the best reading available. It's the one that I can't put down till I've checked out every page thoroughly. I can't wait for the next issue to turn up in the letter box. LOVE IT!!!!!
Luke still has some back issues available, also the 2010 portfolio is fantastic, a book full of pics the did'nt make it into the mag.
GET ON IT!!!!!!
Luke also stocks the European Bug-in DVD which is awesome viewing.........
vlad01 ·
only one I have read and have is issue #1 of VWMA.
I have the centerfold of the 69 fasty on my wall since 99?
apart from that I find vw mags to full of useless info, well useless for me anyway.
I hate ads 😀
Dak-A-Tak ·
Be nice if Luke would answer his phone and call back after you leave messages .Yes , Airmighty is show standed mag but vw people will never buy every copy at it's price .

Do agree with you there. sometimes there will be pics with a few captions under some saying this car won but not often.
I get annoyed sometimes when events are even put up on here by the organisers and no results are listed. You just have to wait for someone to post up pics and hopefully they'll say who won what.
One thing Pete and I will always do with Dyno Mania is get the info posted up of who won what category then have a list of what everyone did on the day.
Time consuming yes but it is far easier than answering a million PM's about "what did such and such do" LOL 🙂

I just subscribed to Hot Vws mag again, $75 US for two year's, That's $3.12 a copy delivered, a bit better than $13 that we pay here, i do not really see there is any incentive in subscribing to VWMA, i will save a whole $5.80 for the year.

He's only just got back from the states, maybe try him again??
PS. I know of at least 4 local guys that have all 6 issues of Airmighty, not all VW guys are cheap, and I've got no problems in paying good $$ for IMHO the best read out there.

OK, my question is, which article do you turn to first each time you get VWMA?

That's OK. With an attitude like that, they are probably glad of that.
I always like to peruse the ads while I am reading VWMA, and often buy from them. I know who will be more likely to help me out when I have a problem then.

The way I see it is I deal with people I know and trust and buying stuff off the net and having it shipped here worries me that it will go missing or the wrong parts get sent. Then the drama of sending it back etc is a pain. Love being able to pick up the phone and call someone on the same time line as you are and speaks the same language lol. Plus I do like to support where possible the businesses out there that support the Aussie volksy scene

Or do as I do go to were the suppliers over here get them from, the States ,and miss out the middle man.
Usually get them as quick and save some money.

i have only been in vw scene for 3 years, and yes subsrcibe to VWMAustralia, And cannot wait for next issue to arrive and fight my 11 year old son and dad to whom is going to get first to read. For $7.50 every 3 months we get informed of what events are coming up in Australia and great photos or information for those we miss and unable to attend. And reading the history and understanding the work gone into published rides of fellow Mexicans, S.A included and also appreciate whats happening with our Cockroach and Cain Toad comrades in Australia !! but at least being able to find a reputable dealer to talk to in Australia and help me with what i want helps? (there are ads in every magazine) been bent over on internet and by buying direct from overseas, been to a few events here in victoria, and craig has driven down to attend, he couldnt possibly get to them all could he?? and to see the hard work craig and guys put into portland must be commended,

Well, today I had another present dropped off by my favourite postie 🙂
And now I've got another mag to the list,
'Type' is an english A5 mag with content from all over the world, fantastic read well worth checking out (The latest Airmighty is pretty good too 😉 )
Only available through "Fuel"

I subscribe to VWMA, Hot VW's and VolksWorld. I wasn't even aware that there were other publications out there (apart from Ultra VW)... I'll have to try to get a look at them. Of course, VWMA is my favourite as it contains info and reviews about local VW stuff... my kids play 'where's Ratty' with the show pics 😀
With that said, I am still trying to find time to sit down and properly read last months Hot VW's and VolksWorld, and I have only just finished reading the last VWMA! Please don't go monthly or bi-monthly Craig or I will never catch up (or get anything done on my VW's!).
On the subject of magazines, I have just tried to re-new my Hot VW's subscription on-line and my browser is warning me that the subscription site is not a 'trusted site' and not to enter any personal information, which I thought was a bit strange .... has anyone else had this problem?
