If you thought it went well , why pull it apart ??? are you after a bigger HP number.:😊
I hope you don't miss out on to many vw runs while shes in the shop.
ps While the motors out get the clutch checkd and you better give the brakes a look at and change the brake fluid
vassy66T1 ·
Okay with wedge ports and FK87 you would expect a bit higher number (maybe 130-140's)
What carbs or injection and exhaust/muffler?
johny rotten ·
Ask Mike to crack test the AA crank and rods, just in case . 😀
vvwbeetle ·
The carbies are 48's
He said he would expect 130 - 140 at the wheels. So hopefully this is where we will get close to.
There are no lash caps and the rod have no adjustment on them, plus a few other things.
Found out that there was not engine mounts in either so having those put in.
Hopefully I don't miss out on many cruises.
vvwbeetle ·
The engine is now back together, hope to collect the car next Thursday all being well.
vassy66T1 ·
Cool!!
It will be a rocket.🤪
coletrickle ·
Yep you should be looking around 130. 140 hp, my 2332 fk87. 48 Ida streeter with hand ported heads made 143@wheels.
Brian ·
What changes were made to the engine on the rebuild ?
Ollie ·
What compression is the motor?
matberry ·
Good on ya Clarky....& Brian
Also What... cam timing, exhaust?
110 rwhp isn't necessarilly all bad IMO
Keen to hear how the upgrade went.
vvwbeetle ·
The old compression was 7.9:1
The aim was to go for around 10:1 this time around
Had to replace a lot of parts inside I'll update later when back on the computer
ian.mezz ·
youll have twice as much as our old 2213 has.
77hp@ wheels 😊 😂🤪😂

Had to replace parts ???? I thought this motor was NEW when you bought the car ??
vvwbeetle ·
So did I Craig,
Pulling it apart told another story though - unfortunatley you trust some people.
anyway some on the parts that had to be replaced are below
84mm CB Race Crank
Std Main Bearing
Chevy Big End Brgs
Double thurst CAm Bearing
Long Barrels
CB Cam
Adjustable cam gear (I chose not to go with the straight cuts)
CB Light weight lifters
Chromoly head rocker studs
Jaycee adjustable push rod tubes
CB Chromoly.58 push rods
I have also replaced the old exhaust

Sounds like its going to hurt the wallet as well
Klaus ·
You want to sell the old engine internals or did mike keep them?
vvwbeetle ·
Hi Paul,
It might hurt now but I think it would have hurt more had I been driving the car and something happened.
at least now I know what I have got for sure.
Mike @ CBB has been great, and has made me feel at ease with everything and that i am going to get an engine that suits what I want it for and have some power there.
Its a shame that I have a family day on Sunday the 3rd otherwise i would have done the Bug & Bus show up the central coast.
I will now have to keep an eye out for the next thing that is on and get out and meet some people and enjoy the car.
Hi Klaus,
I'll find out on Thursday what is happening to the old parts.
I'll keep you posted.
Klaus ·
no worries , you still own them and may aswell make a couple of hundred for junk bits 🙂 mainly cam crank lifters n barrels and straight cut gears
vassy66T1 ·
I too have learnt that an engine put together by someone else is just an unknown.
All my parts were good fortunately but would not have lasted 12 months.
You are right, the money now for the known result is worth it in the long run.
vvwbeetle ·
Just about to jump on train to collect the car.
Shame about the weather. At least I'm getting the car back though.
Can not wait to get there and see how it went on the dyno after the build.
Mike was happy with it when I spoke to him last night and said I should have a huge smile on my face. I am sure I will which will make it all worth it.
Now just trying to figure out if I can afford to keep it as the extra expense is something I was not counting on. But at least know it's done correctly now and if I do sell it I will know that the car and engine I sell are great and I would not have a guilty conscience.
I hope I figure a way out to keep it
Paulc1964au ·
I really hope you can keep the car especially now u have a rebuilt engine. The problem is even if you sell you may not cover the total cost.
1303Steve ·
Hi
My opinion is that you only loose money when you sell them, the value to you is priceless.
Steve
vvwbeetle ·
Yes I agree Paul and Steve but I now have convince the wife to extend the home loan.we are already doing reno's to the house.
I'm sure it will be ok but also have to be realistic.
Anyway picking it in penrith then considering a drive even in this weather home is back up Hornsby way any ideas where I should go?
