Im looking for replacement rubber stops for front and rear on my fastie anyone know of anywhere or if it is possible still to get them. I'm also looking for the gasket/rubber seal that goes under the body as i have just lifted off the body from the chasis and would like to replace this if possible.
Any help appreciated.

Great to hear thanks alot for the help.

If you're prepared to pay shipping (alot for anything), ISP west has everything you need.

Bettle ones fit on the front, if not the same then very close and if you've lowered or are going to they are good for the rears to, standard are way to big to lower.
Matty v ·
will probley lower a little so thanks for the info!
haz77 ·
Sure you can find info and will get help on here if you do lower but,,
Unless you remove the front stops or even the lugs they fit onto you can only mildly lower the front before you either bottom out or have no travel, I used a spare set of beetle stops on the front and cut them about in half so I have 1-1/2" of travel and still have bump stops.
The rear works sweet with the old front stops, or more beetle ones without modification and has loads of travel.
My car sits about 4" ground clear at the front beam & rear shock mounts and I wouldn't like much less without being real careful where and how I drive.

thanks for the info guys, any info on lowering greatly appreciated as i have the body off and would like to do this before putting back on if its possible.
haz77 any picks of your car, id like to see how it looks at that height, and for that matter any picks with the heights would be great.
haz77 ·
So if im right I dropped the front by around 1", and the back to suit, different movements on each side to get it level and each car will be different anyway.
Before;
After;
Lower arm travel with cut down beetle rear bump stop, any lower and you would have 3 options, smaller tyres, no bump stop or cut off the bump stop arm!!, all but the first of which would not pass a road fitness test here in NZ.

Cool cheers mate, is the motor a stocko?
haz77 ·
Yeah, all stock other than the wheels & tyres,
may try and find bigger radius on the rears soon as gear ratios are to low with 65's also may go to smaller on the front to give a bit of nose down stance.
These alloys have a big offset and so much lower and the fronts would arch out way before the lock,
coincided up grading the shocks to gas but proved to expensive in Nz, haven't really looked at imports from Au or Us etc.
This is how it was on my first attempt, NO steering without arching and sitting hard on the bump stops!, about -2.5" down, didnt even look that low,,, 😂
Matty v ·
Sweet yeah i like a bit of a nose down stance, i also will be upgrading suspension in the not to distant future, ill let you know what i find re gas shocks over here.
dragsters for life ·
as i got her
down two notches in front and cut down bump stops, i have travel and rides nice, 165s on front with a little rub but will get smaller tires soon
and ill be hitting the rear soon, here were i learnt how to do it
hope that helps, its pretty simple and logic once you jack it up and remove the wheel and take a look, i was asking around for some help and was told to watch these videos and give it a go
type 3s are pretty easy to set up how you like
i like a rake nose down stance
RATAFIED ·
im 3 down in the front and 3 in the rear and running 135s on the front 165s on the rear ,removeed the bump stops on the front as well as the bumper stop plate 72 wagon
empi ·
Cut the stopper off, 135 (or 145 if u are a nancy) tyres on the front and stock 165's on the rear.

Haha, well said😂

we put 145s on blacky, we aint dropped it yet as we have to paint then rwc then reg then slam town
she will cop 3 all round and no bump stops
we just hit yellow turd in the front, no shocks or stops as yet but sits well nice
telf ·
Hay RATAFIED how did you get it down 3 in the back mine is dow 2 out and sits on super short bump stops?
dragsters for life ·
get rid of those bump stops
picsfrom the samba
3 all round no bump stops and 165 tires on every corner
telf ·
Is that no bump stops in the back. If so how? not so easy on IRS had a look in to it and asked questions but no 1 ever had any answers.

cut the bump stops off

195/50R15s on front with 60s on the rearm sitting on original Empi Rivieras. Centre of rear axle dropped 6 cms, over 2 inches from original stance and front dropped 10cm/4ins. New KYB Gas on all 4 corners.

photos didn't load - sorry ?

Looks sweet, good height for driving around, see some so low i wouldnt get out of my driveway. What work did you do to get that height?
vlad01 ·
I think thats 2 splines down on the front by the looks, mine is that height. But rear I have no idea? All the type 3s I have owned were already sagged to that level on the rear 😂

Hi Mattyv,
I haven't actually done anything to the front other than to put the low profile tyres onto the original Empi Riviera rims. I did however completely replace all suspension components - shocks rubbers etc. Result, a very pleasing stance, great handling, a squeaky front left bush from a dry joint, and the need to have the speedo recalibrated. (replaced the original with KPH a few years ago). The comparison photo of the standard size tyre and rim compared to the low profile on the Riviera tells it all. 🙂

Thats sure the easiest way to lower a car!!
I had a v-low fasty before with 145's on steels up front & no bump stops, also the steering had to be reduced to stop arching out.
Looked good but thats about where it stopped, if you want a car to drive around freely & without major worry's then sorry but you cant go that low.
Steve, how do you find your gear ratios now?, i checked online an rivieras with 175 65 15's as Ive got on reduce the speedo reading by about 2.8% & therefore the gear ratios so Im looking to go back up to 175 75/80 15's on the rears to get the top end back up.
Speedos easy, just run a GPS and then put small markers such as red tape V's where the key speeds are, no need to re calibrate TBH.
May turn the rears down a touch if it lifts her up to much, but should only be 10-15mm higher so nice nose rake if anything.

Initially I had the low profiles all round, and found I was wringing the neck out of the 1600 motor to get anywhere, that's when I swapped the rear tyres out to the 60 profiles. Since I had the motor rebuilt I was revving to 3250 - 3300 at 105kmh (GPS) but last week, had a new gearbox built as I couldn't stand the whine from the old one, and in the rebuild had 1800cc Kombi 3rd and 1600cc Kombi 4th (.82) included. Dropped the revs by about 250rpm, doesn't sound much, but very noticeable on the highway, (engine pitch). The ratios are fine for the motor, as it has loads of torque and the gap between gears isn't really noticeable.
Speedo, even though it has been recalibrated is still about 5% low when compared to GPS readout, which is technically within the Australian specs and a hidden safety measure! That's why when your driving around using your GPS as the speedo, everyone else is going that bit slower than you. They are probably sitting on the speed limit by their speedo, even in the newer cars. My brand new Golf GTD is around 5% under. (110 GPS = 115-6 speedo!)
haz77 ·
Hats off to you steve,
Sounds like you've got it set up very nicely.
Even my 65's make it sound like its thrashing at 100k's so can imagine what the 45's would be like!!
Got my hands on a set of 175 80's now so will get them on this week, just checked online the 175 65's actually lost me 5.7% on my speedo so I guess the same on the gears and the 175 80's will add 2.5% which im sure will be fine as 1st and 2nd are short anyway!
No rev counter so I can only go buy the comparison charts, cant see why that cant work.
vlad01 ·
haha yeah my notch has 65 on it. I remember my mate (support lol) in his VY driving with me and he said after a while is there something wrong with the engine......No why? you driving slow like 100 not 110...... I was like.. wtf? it says im doing just over 70mph and the engine is screaming!
the small tires was like extra high ratio diff effectively 🙄
so I bumped it to 77ish mph, geebus! engine going to scatter soon 😵💫
