so slamming your bus is the latest thing to do but I just dig the baja bus. Where have all the BAJA Buses gone? Who's got one? Post some pictures of the monster buses and maybe to what extreme you've taken it.
thanks 11CAB, should have known the manxclub would have all things beachy. Nice collection of photos.

This was mine
Took it offroading everywhere between Mackay & Sydney.... and even managed to get it stuck once......

Those were the days Moreton in the 8o's, you would hardly see a person over there even on a weekend. nowdays too crowded and way too dear!!

How high do you think 11CABs bus is? Also what would a ballpark figure be to raise it up about the same height?
11CAB 路
It had a 3 inch lift at the front with 215/75R15 front and 31x10.5 rear
Serious85 路
馃憤 I see... Thanks... Hopefully some will be at the Abbey so I can have a good look.
11CAB 路
Probably not, they don't turn up much anymore
Serious85 路
Thats a shame... Lowering is cool and all, but not practical for what I want... I'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Gday all. after a spell of health issue's & having sold the beetle baja I have started building a bajabus. I have cut the hole in the floor behind front seats & sat a rover 3.5 v8 in hole behind it will be a hiace 5 speed using dellow bellhousing this box is similar to supra alloycase box but remote shifter behind that again will be a 720 nissan divorced transfercase. I Have a set of front 4x4 spiindles being reamed to accept kombi balljoint's & camber adjuster into them I have to move centre pin for steering out to clear the commodore v6 diff centre that iam using front & rear the rear will be a factory slippery. I have looked at the steering on the 4 mules vw built into bay's to develope the syncro awd.they had a double centre pin setup with short tierod's & seperate short draglink between both centre pins.I need help to put up pics if someone can help out. Iam on the goldcoast every second weds thurs if anyone would like to come over & see what Iam doing.

albertnorley, sounds like a monster build you got going on there. Is it going to be road registered or strictly offroad?
Looking forward to seeing the build.
roverv8bay 路
G'day day daydreamer. I have sat the engine in place to show engineer location. so hope to get go ahead to build for street use there's a maroon bay on the gold coast running a gen 2 commodore v8 in the rear so I am hoping my little 3.5 sitting in a custom chassis attached to the original chassis will be acceptable in the terms of strength so hope to now something when he get's back off hols.

Best of luck with the build ernie, sounds pretty crazy and i do like crazy. i'm interested to see how your front stubs turn out. Because to the risk of letting the cat out of the bag, i'll be bajaing my new bus. using the subi engine and box i was preping for the beetle. I'm inclined to leave the tranfer on the front of the box, incase i work out a way to make it 4wd later down the track.
roverv8bay 路
G'day Nils. all of the measurements add up to them fitting won't know until I get 1 back from the engineer's to test there's 8cm's overall between kombi stub axle & rodeo spindle hope fully I won't need to spread the beam's. I plan to lift it 2" front & rear. Been looking for a set of bolt on flares used on some of the bays in this topic if anyone knows where I can get 4 I may cut front arches away & cut & bolt flares to front door's to open with the door to incorporate a replacement arch I have been working on the steering pin today with a bit of work I have turned the pin upside down so steering arm is on the bottom of the beam not in the middle this gives me plenty of room to mount the front diff I just have to move the lock to lock adjusters over. getting a dud commodore irs diff on wed to start making mounting bracket's to bolt it in. will post some pic's next week all for now.

Sounds wild Ernie. Be keen to see this one mate. 馃檪

Volks Conversions at Labrador sell the fibreglass flares for front and rear. The rears are copies of 40 series Land Cruiser flares, but the fronts are unique to the Kombi
roverv8bay 路
G'day matt how have you been as you see I didnt stay away for long once doc gave me the all clear to do abit now I have to finish the back room extension that's been on hold. The kombi is at my daughter's on the goldie so only get 2 day's a fortnight to do work on it. but everything is so simple in the form of adaptability it just atkes abit if time to think about direction the biggest pita was laying under 4x4's with a tape measure to fing spindle's that will fit then getting someone local to ream out for lot bigger vw balljoint's. thanks 11cab for info on flares will drop around to john's after easter & check them out. I have to arrange an adapter kit for son in laws bay. I picked up an ej18 on thursday for $250 including complete harness ecu radiator withfans for him. shed look's good 2 bays being built at once. Matt do you do lathe work I didn't look when i was up last I have to get a bay axle machined down to fit into toyota gearbox yoke toreduce the gap between gearbox & transfer case if you do i will ring to make time to come up.
erni

Ernie, best to ring Dangerous on here. I have a lathe that get's a little use but I'm not qualified to help. 馃槈

G'day all. thanks Matt. I will put some pics up when i get back to work on it after the break.

G'day all. bought a davis craig electric waterpump & a remote oil filter cooler setup yesterday this will allow me to move the engine forward an extra 100mm's took intermediate shaft parts in to be built. this will give me 75mm's so i now have 15mm's clearance on the transfercase so I may have to remove some metal off the centre of the rear torsion bar tube these numbers will be more accurate as i get everything bolted together ordering a dellow bellhousing on monday to bolt the toyota box to the rover once that arrives it's fit you bastard or only 2 wheeldrive. the engineer has almost finished the front spindle hope to get it on moday so I can test it for the camber adjustment etc.By moving the centre pin to under the beam has allowed me to retain the booster in it's original position good for me better fo the inspector as no welding or relocation. I go back down the goldie in 2 week's so will take some pics.

roverv8bay... i`ll be watching this build with great anticipation,,, i`ve been wanting to do my own 4x4 conversion with my duelcab v8 kombi fore years, but i wanted to keep the v8 in the back.
i can help yopu with uploading pics, just click onto "photobucket" & creat an account,,, it`s free. :-)
roverv8bay 路
G'day theminiman. I have sent a kombi halfshaft the input I have a photobucket but now idea how to post across if you have done it can you pm with a clue i get to the pics but they dont come across.
ernie
TheMiniMan 路
ok, go to photobucket,,, click onto your pick,,, & then once your pic is basically it`s own page because yuou clicked on it earlier,,, then down on the lower right hand side of the screen you`llsee a box that says "direct link"... click onto that too & it should change colour & say "copied" as you click on it ...
ok now you can just come over to this page & type ,,, so the slash denotes the end of the image link yeah?
try it,,, it`s not to hard
roverv8bay 路
G'day all here goes hope this work's. thankyou miniman ist time i have had good information easy to understand these were taken 25 minutes after the motor arrive a quick measure and some lines on the floor a cutting disc & you have a start. You will see that the motor is held back by the crankpulley that has gone the oil filter was a problem so now remote when fitting kit get's here the motor will be lower by about 5cm's now I can start putting up pics. thanks again miniman
ernie
roverv8bay 路
g'day all. On a roll now just took these few the centre pin relocated the & transfer case
TheMiniMan 路
cool,,, when are the 2x turbos going on ? :-)
& if i can be so bold to ask what front uprights/spindles youy`re going to use?
you said something about machining them to take the kombi ball joints yeah?
so are they off some late jap front wheel drive car?

looking forward to this getting a run..

Gday miniman. The spindle's are of a holden rodeo 4x4 model unknown. They were freebies they have the izusu trademark on them. The kombi b/joint is bigger especially the top with the camber adjuster as soon as i get the modified 1 back will post a pic with the kombi stub & unmodified spindle next to it. I don't plan to keep any secret's to what I am using my idea of doing this is just a 30 odd yearold set of thourght's coming to an eclectic conclusion. I only get 2 day's a fortnight to work on it more tomorrow
ernie
TheMiniMan 路
ah way cool fella, i`ll be on the look-out for some holden rodeo hubs for myself then , cause i`m looking at "Maybe" using a WRX automatic box & running it with the 4x4 set-up, i`ve already been playing with austin kimberly front wheel drive assys but they`re not going to work,,, hours & hours or stuffing aeround with no fruit, but Rodeo will be my next port of call :-)
cheers bloke

Low dubs have been around as long as lifted dubs, I was driving a lifted bus in the 90's both styles are cool and always will be.
You are just a tight arse and know it will be cheaper for you to do the ute slightly raised 馃槈

G'day Matt these are the drive I am using hope pics help note the kombi stub sitting in hub still have to sort steering height. Also left to right to get steering arms to the rear of beam as i said it depends on the 1 being done now fitting. I may have to spread the beams not much of a problem have the method for this sorted
