Hi, i have a chicken with a sore eye. Shes about 2 years old. Very healthy and eating etc without any problems. She started to close her eye and then it got worse. We used eye drops and washed it with a mild salt water solution and removed the bit of gunk it had every day. Now, about 2 weeks on, her eye seems swollen and very white that she is having a little trouble closing her eye lid.
I've been told that shes injured it and will most likely go blind in that eye, in which i think would have happened by now, but im still concerned. I got some chemical off the breeder to put in the water and was told not to eat the eggs which we have done for a week. She layed her first egg today after being off season for a while.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Don't know anything bout chickens, but how long do buggies live?
Our useless seed spreader is about 5 years old now and still looks ok.

Time to eat it!

Oh Dear! it MIGHT be the same as,...
Last year my girlfriend’s favourite chook looked like yours.
The main difference is that hers went off her food and lost alot of weight. She did not lay eggs either.
She searched all the chicken forums and when none of any suggested remedies worked, she took it to a bird vet.
(It was a very personable chook so she thought the vet fee was worth it.)
He said that often it is an infection spread by Native crested pigeons (and other native birds.) that come down to eat the chook food.
Other than the salty eye wash and water supplement that you are already doing there is not much you can do.
If the chicken is strong enough it will survive the infection and will be a one eyed bird.
If not, well, I think you know the outcome.
It is contagious, so if you haven’t already it's a good idea to separate from the rest of your flock even though they have been exposed.
Scrub and disinfect the chook house.
Move it to fresh dirt if you can.
I'm sorry to say our bird did not survive, but none of the others got the disease which is great.
