i bought this beetle about a month ago from Rhett(phat bug) from bendigo. me and dad decided to travel all the way down there and trailer it home, it was quite a trip! haha.
since then i tried to get the blueslip and failed for having a stop light out, battery not covered and loose, spotty on the bonnet, and an oil leak.. all reletively easy to fix.
so i did the battery, replaced a fuse, and cleaned the engine up and thought id give it another go.
no good. so i ended up getting the main engine seal replaced and while i was at it the master cylinders in both rear brakes, and it passed easily.
and heres a few photos of when i picked it up, the drive home and the first drive to work with the NSW plates.
its been lowered too. has 4.5" narrowed beam with adjusters in the front, and just one click in the rear. im planning on getting drop spindles and going two clicks in the rear, but im unsure because its my daily and i need to be able to drive it too haha.
im taking it down to the blue mountains this weekend, all should be okay.. i hope haha.

Took it to the blue mountains today, went great St on 60mph the whole way. By the time I get home there should be a few presents from the mailman 😀

Yeah I was so surprised. The guy jacked the car up at the front and looked directly at the beam and just checked the wheel bearings and put it back down. I was so happy!
Yeah? I saw it on dsk after it had been advertised for like a month and it was perfect timing cause I was selling my Kombi. There a bit of rust that needs some attention but that will come later after I've had a bit of fun using it.
By the time I'm home on Monday I should have a rack, parcel tray, and deck lid Stand offs. And I'll just be adding some little cool things like nrma badge and crap like that.
I'll be heading out to the rat day on fathers day, hopefully I'll meet some new peoples

i was expecting to get some presents in the mail today but nothing came, so i couldnt help myself and had aplay around with the front end.
ended up dropping it down to its lowest setting, this is without drop spindles so ill see how it goes tomorrow on the way to work

nankang 135R15, and yes they rub on full lock, mainly on the head light buckets.
thats why im thinkin dropped spindles because it will bring the wheels back a tad and possibly get rid of the rubbbbbing.😏

mmm im the same i have 155/50/15s there stupidly low profile on the front but they still rub on ful lock to..

i have a question, i bought a bamboo under dash/shelf and it doesnt quite fit and im not too keen on drilling holes into the car.
i could maybe bring it with me on rat day if anyone would like it? $80 and ill bring it, otherwise ill leave it in the garage.

I had some troubles today, while driving the left hand brake smelt real bad. And I couldn't turn right properly like as if something was stopping it. I have no idea what it would of been. Anyone have any ideas????

Jacked it up before work, it looks like it is the head light buckets.
Sadly I think I'll have to raise it up a tad, it drove alright to work this morning with it still sitting low though.
Dropped spindles are definitely on the to do list now

bit of an update, i bought some drop spindles from vollks and installed myself over the weekend and a little bit this week. i ran into a few pickles but it was expected and ended up turning out great.
this is how she sits at the moment, with the adjusters pretty high. unlike before having them wound all the way down.
also got myself a visor you can kinda see it in those photos, and i have these beauties to put on either these wheels or some RDWs!
tomorrow im gonna take a few better pictures of the car,
next on the list is the rear, either drop plates or notch them and just click down. anyone care to give me some advice on how to do it? ive heard its relatively easier than the front?

Just plain old eBay. The shipping actually cost more than the flappers!
But that's the only place I could find them. Type in 'port a wall inserts' and you should see a few there

I know a few tyre guys that will happily install them for me, I have white, and red and white ones at the moment, a set of my white ones were ruined when the tyre place damaged them removing them last time. I've since changed tyre guys. Some places wont install them at all though!

ok, bit of an update.
my wheels have come! and i have ordered my new tyres and will be getting them installed this week. yeah i know, i went something totally different to what i was thinking, but i have always liked the empi 5's and this car has had the chrome ones on before and they suited it great so im interested to see what these look like. in my head its gonna look freakin sweet!
and my roof rack, and visor arrived the other day too and i chucked them on and took a quick photo with some junk on the roof.
once i get the new wheels on ill take some good ones. 😀
also, while driving today to and from work. my ignition light seemed to stay on the whole time i was driving, does this mean something is on its way out??

and yeah the flappers didnt go on good so im thinking i might get this dude in cardiff to cut a line of rubber out and paint the red line on. but for now its just plain...

There's a guy here in Adelaide that does the red/white line thing - comes to you and charges about $150 for 4 tyres. So pretty affordable really.
Not that it helps you in Newcastle I guess.

Those port a wall inserts are a good alternative seeing that in Adelaide red/white walls etc that are cut into the sidewall of a tyre are getting defected..ahh the nanny state.

What size tyre's did you end up getting?

145/65 on the front and 185/65? Or 60 I can't remember but it's the same rolling diameter as a stock tyre.

good news? i dunno, probably not good news.
but the newly grinded down bolts/studs fit fine which is awesome, and the front tyres are great no rubbing what-so-ever...
but, the rear tyres are too small, they are smaller than the 165s and in my eyes they looks shit. so im going to take them back get a refund because i havent even driven on them yet and i will be getting a bigger size. be looking for a 205/65 i think.

sorry about the suspense haha, but im actually in the middle of pulling the alternator out because i think its faulty. the car is losing charge and now the battery is dead. so im re charging the battery, taking the alternator out and have a look at it and i might be buying a new one.... not sure yet.

it does bolt straight in... but you need about 2 quick shifters for it to work. and should use a splitty shifter.
i have a bay one if you want that but i dont know how well it would work.
