Looks like the black stripe goes through the 53 on the bonnet.🤓

Love bug stickers actually go on the rag top if I remember correctly too...
Well, a small portion anyway.

Agreed, the original Herbies (movies 1-4) are the only way to go. That is, as used in The Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes Bananas. There are subtle differences between the four, but they are far classier than the 'redesigned' graphics of the later Lindsay Lohan movie. The Herbie TV special (with Horace the Hate Bug) also uses the wrong 'Loaded' graphics.

The 'Loaded' grahics are different in quite a number of ways. Firstly the font of the '53' is different. The original was done by hand but the Loaded looks like a basic computer font. The Loaded number circles are also different sizes - the front bonnet is significantly larger than the doors. On the original the front is only slightly larger than the doors/engine lid. The Loaded front bonnet number is also too low - as you can see above, the bottom rim of the circle is level with the bottom of the bonnet strip. The earlier one is higher up, with around 10 cm of trim showing, and hence looks better balanced. The Loaded stripes are not quite right - the red-white-blue width ratio should be 1-1-2, with the white and red being 35 mm wide, and the blue 70 mm. The Loaded blue is also too light - it should be a darker almost navy blue. And yes, the original Herbie has the stripes on the sunroof material, while the Loaded cars don't.

Greg Carr in the US sells a high quality 'original' sticker kit. He used to own the original Herbie #2 with the EMPI-built mods such as the Porsche 356 engine and brakes. It's now owned by Terry's Beetle Service in the UK.

More detailed info on the original Herbie decals can be found here: http://www.herbiemania.com//build.html

The first ever Herbie movie I watched was Herbie Goes Bananas. That, along with all the family having VW's, started me on my journey to getting a Beetle!

But, I have to agree with everyone else, number one is most likely the best way to go. Your car is so clean without the Herbie stickers, it looks immaculate.
I don't know, but Herbie stickers somewhat make Beetles look almost, well, dirty in my eyes.

Too many people do the Herbie thing and it is somewhat expected that each person that owns a white Beetle does put Herbie stickers on it at some stage in its life.
Somewhat annoys me when I get asked over and over again and then I try and explain that I have the wrong year and model of a Beetle to even remotely get away with putting Herbie stickers on.
Seriously, an L Bug Herbie? :P

I noticed them straight away Lee! That 1997 'TV Special' Love Bug remake was dreadful, and I remember at the time noting that the Herbie graphics were wrong. The Loaded film used the same 'wrong' graphics, and of course the 'street racer' and the 'NASCAR' Herbie at the end of the film just got away from the real Herbie entrirely.

That's a shot of Alex's Herbie at the Nationals. It's a geniune Disney Herbie that appeared in Monte Carlo, and later Bananas - as far as I know, the only genuine Disney Herbie in Australia. It was actually the car from the Bananas bullfight scene, where the front and back wheels turned in to allow it to spin 360 degrees in its own length. It ended up in the junkyard, but was rescued and restored to its Monte Carlo appearance. The front fuel cap is a dummy. The sunroof is not a VW one; Disney built it with a wooden frame! The car has been fitted with moving headliights, servo-opening bonnet, and even the squirter near the rear wheel. Alex controls it with a remote from a distance - kids love it. If you look under the rear guards you can still see where the body was cut away for the bullfight scene mechanicals. I think the actor Joquin Garay (the little kid in Bananas) signed the glovebox. Great car!

Yes there are a lot of dodgy replicas out there. But a Superbug Herbie has already been done! In the December Xmas holidays in 1974, when Herbie Rides Again was released, the film was shown at the 'Theatre Beautiful' at Roselands shopping centre. To promote the film, a 'Herbie' was placed on display in the shopping centre. It was prepared by the VW dealer at Hurstville, Swantons Pty Ltd. It was a brand new white Superbug, with blue and red stripes and Disney '53 stickers!

One thing I noticed with Alex's beetle was the early blinkers are way too far from the body...

guards may be widened too...?

I thought Herbie goes Bananas was the worst Herbie film.. IMHO
