Cop car chase!!!

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/9238/cop-car-chase

Blue65 路

This seems a bit crazy but I had a cop car chase after me for speeding. Yes, terrible me was doing 63km/h in a 60 zone highway (it also goes to 80km in some places).

I was driving and then suddenly all the cars on my right slowed down. I
thought wtf? Then I saw a police car parked deeply in a driveway. Its siren
lights went on. And the police officer in the car waved at me to pull over.
I thought wtf? But there were also cars behind me and I couldn't simply
brake in the middle of a busy road now could I? 馃檪 And I thought - bugger it -
I'll play dumb so I kept on driving. So the cop car chased after me. But
there were so many cars between me and him. And no one wanted to pull over
and let bluey boy get pass.

So merrily I went along at a rock steady 60km whilst watching the police siren lights blink furiously behind me.

He gave up after 10km. Seems funny now. But it sure didn't seem like it
before - those speeding fines are ridiculous. They spend so much time
chasing after people who are doing a few km off the limit in "easy to catch"
areas. They should be spending more time chasing after idiots who gayily tail gate others on the slow lane.

I am just as keen on a good yarn as the next bloke and this is a great yarn. 馃榾

Have to ask firstly how do you know you were doing 63kmph when the cop got you ? Do you still have the mph speedo in the car ? If so I reckon the 1.875 miles you say you were doing over the 37.5mph speed limit would be very hard to tell, almost the speedo needle thickness me thinks ...

Then the police car followed you for 10 mins (maybe longer in traffic @ 60kmph for 10km ) and then just gave up ??

mmm the cops around where you live must be different to the rest of Australia :o:o:vader

I was driving my mum's car: a Volvo - my Beetle is in the workshop because the engine caught fire (see the tech forum), and the speedo showed I was above the 60 but not above 65.

The police car followed me - maybe he thought I'd pull over or something. But like I said the other cars did not pull over to let him pass. So maybe he got mad at one of them instead. I dunno.

But I'm buggered if I'm going to pay Bracks (our premier) $200 for doing 63km in a 60 zone highway area. The b^stards are using this as pure revenue raising scam. Morons can't earn money the decent way. What next? They'll lower speed limits to 20mph everywhere just to get more cash.

i guess the cops are only doing theyre job and following the stupid revenue making legislation the bracks gov. has dreamed up. I had a good run in with my p.o.s super on dandenong road a few months ago, i was about 10 ks over and an unmarked car pulled me up. The female coppa thought it was pretty funny and commented that she didnt think beetles could go so fast, her offsider then came over and told me how he once had a similar beetle and let me go?. im personally fiding it hard to adjust to this new customer friendly force, its a bit too weird for my liking. i agree with squizy, what ever happened to the old school of melbourne coppa that either took a bribe or a pot shot.

No, I seriously can't afford to pay any more damn speeding fines. The last time I got one was at 10pm - I was driving on a deserted industrial section of Middlebouragh Road. The road sloped downwards. And my speedometer went from 40 to 50mph. It was completely deserted and it was an industrial area.

There was a hidden cop car at the top of the hill. They stopped me and slapped me with a $200 fine and one demerit point.

I can't believe Victoria didn't vote out Bracks - Doyle promised a saner speeding system and all the media pansies ridiculed him.:vader BAH!

Here's the most memorable encounter with the Newcastle constabulary

Late at night driving between Maitland and Newcastle in my Fiat with sister at side. Outside maitland was followed by a commodore, he turned off i kept going.

Outside Hexham followed by commodore again this time with 2 guys Interflora signs on the side, dual lane road 80 zone. He kept overtaking us and then slowing to 70 kays. So i did what every young guy in a fiat would do I'd pass him again. This went on for 10km.

got to the Shortland turnoff, 2 lam\nes turning. lights red, had to stop, commodore inches from my bumper.

i said f... this, this guys a wan...er lets get out of here. lights went green car in front stalled then got going so i overtook him in the inside turning lane, weaved bertween a couple of cars and got to the front of the cue before the lane merged into one. thougt i had the bastard.

next thing i new he passed the cars behind me, then the blue lights flashed from behind the grille
Set up and busted

Got done for speeding over 30kays, illegal turn at traffic lights, failing to use indicator when changing lanes and a bald tyre. 11/12 points and $350.

Went to court i got off on the bald tyre and changing lanes but still lost 9 out of 12 points. Funny thing was I really did have a bald tyre

Thats really harsh bugged again.

so the cops can drive like complete knobs just to peeve someone off enough that they take "diversionary tactics" only so they can bust you.

I was driving down the road from my parants place when I was about 19 and there was a DunnyDoore PARKED with its High Beams on. So I flashed my lights but he left his on, so I thought take this and put mine on High Beam. Next thing I know, it's a cop car and he is turning around to catch me. So I went around the Block, to be honest I thought I could out run him and go home, but I wasn't really speeding incase he did catch me. I looked in the mirror and he was really going for it side ways around the corner so I stopped.

The Fat pig Wanker Punched me in the stomach as soon as I pulled over and got out of the car. I fell back against the Boot of my XE Fairmont and when I stood up again he hit me again.

He was a Dick Head it was out side my parants house at around 8.30 at night on a Saturday night. As soon as he hit me I started yelling "stop hitting me your hurting me" to get some attention from my Parants. When I heard my Brother and father coming from the gate I hit him in the nose and tried to tear his name Badge off but I just tore his shirt buttons. (they were strained anyway) I also kicked the VN commys right hand Head Light in when he locked him self in the car and got on his radio. My Little Brother who was in the Army at the time was keen to kick the Coppers arse.
Mean while mum called some more friendlier Cops.
I had a girl friend in the car and a Sticky beak neighbour for witnesses.
I beleive that stunt cost him his Job.
But the shitty thing is I still got booked for failing to Dip Head lights.

The only good thing I got from it was a chance to punch a Cop, looking back at it I wish I punched the shit out of him.

My experience with police has always been, straight forward. In my youth I was an idiot and probably should have had more trouble than I did. (just driving offences) I had an accident before I had a licence when I ended up in someones front yard. If there were kids playing I would have killed them. But the police didnt give me any grief, just a ride in the back of their van. Even now its a rare sight to see me sticking to a speed limit, but I dont go crazy and my cars dont attract attention. My one and only experience with a Victorian cop was most pleasant as I should have lost my licence for doing more than 30 kays over but he let me off 29. I even have friends who are D's.

Yeh. As an L plater (only by 4months), i've been pulled up 5 times but have never been booked. i've had to stop a 3 breathalysers, and because i was in school uniform and driving such a nice car, the cop didn't realise i was a learner. looked quite shocked really. first time i got breathalysed i even got to keep the tube that you blow in.
some cops are good (like the one that pulled me over after i drove out of a pub without lights on) and others are bad (like the guy whol tailgated me, but i knew he was a cop caus i saw him book some1 5 mins earlier)

when i got the notice i rand my mates and found out they had got aone too. i wrote a bitch letter complaining of the stupidity and irelevence of such a fine and jsut refused to pay.

they sent me a reminder- i sent them another bitch letter. i got a very blunt response. an a demand/court apperance type.
in the end ( i've learned going to court come be worse) i paid the fine. they then chased me for 4 months re a late fee which i responded that i would just refuse to pay. after a while i think it was left to slide.

but seriously it was a load of crap. adn i know a lot of blokes aint goin south for the island this year because of the law. vic camera tolerance is 3ks over.

Yeah funny that. But the cars in the back didn't pull over - there was no place to pull over anyway and the cars in front went real slow - on account of the copper - I went dead slow - so unless someone did a complete stop - there was no way that the cop could have caught up to me. And I was in no mood to pull over to a dark sidestreet and let the police issue me with a fine and stern warning for taking such a long time to pull over.

I got done in by one fine and that pissed me off so much that I'm going to try to persuade all my friends to vote for Liberals so long as the Libs put in place a saner and fairer speeding fine system.

Ive had one encounter with police and I must say it wasnt a bad one...I was bad yes but Mr Police man wasnt....I dont know who was looking after me that night but someone was..or maybe it was just my smile...I duno but I count myself very lucky.
I was only 18 and that night a very very stupid 18 year old...Id just been to the pub with some friends in my car and after 11 or so pots of beer I was driving home. I piled myself and four other friends into my little gemini coupe and on the way we picked up another 4 ppl to take back to a party at home. That made 9 loud drunks in a little gemini coupe, I guess I was pulled over for overload reasons but he stuck me on the bretho also. I was drunk, I can remember not being able to focas on the speedo, the whole dash seemed a blurr. He didnt tell me what my reading was... all he said was 4 ppl have to get outta the car and walk and asked how far I was going, I told him and he followed me till I was home.
To this day I still cannot believe my luck but never did I do it again , it taught me a lesson even if I didnt get busted. I was so scared.

blue65. i am in nsw. my vote will only be going where common sense prevails. a 3klm over rule is such crap.
funny thing is that my bike is capable of 260klmh. an when ever we really give them a boot there is no poilce in site to uphold the law.
i think that they are forced to be pre occupied with revenue than high speed.
i have heard that nsw is adopting the 3klm toloerance... and that vic is leading the way with wanting a NO tolerance law.

when i was in germany, all i noticed was how much more alert drivers were and how much better the traffic flowed. i think that as people are allowed to travel at where they are comfortable, or capable (although cars are apparently limited to 250 now) they are aware that there will be people traveling at 250. i know i was. so they keep vigil and it seems to help with a better system.

i know here so many people seem frustrated with the speed. annoyed with the slow non vigil and in some cases couldn't give a toss drivers, that i am sure it contributes to accidents more than anything else.
the '2hrs gets deadly boring' slogan is a crock also. of course it does if youre sitting in a bombadore with all creature comforts, no sense of anything outside, no challenge to keep you alert. not being allowed to overtake anymore, unless on twolane straight roads ( have you noticed how many places where once you could overtake but now cant.) what do they expect.
but no rather than have people learn to drive properly and improve our societies attitude and ability as a whole, they find it easier and of course more beneficial to have stupid speed limits (introduced by the way, even before my kombi was considered state of the art technology).

there is even a group trying to lobby for samll motored speed limited cars that can not travel over 110............. probably made up of people who have a tragedy as a result of a road accident. but at the same time the same people were probably taught to drive by there mums. probably can tdrive a real car properly and yet even though they may have a family or friends with family and the personal tragedy they probably still havent thought about improving there own driving skills. rather jsut look to blame an easy out. THEY SEEM TO BLINDLY BELIEVE THAT IF THEY TRAVEL AT THE SPEED LIMIT THAT THEY ARE GUARANTEED SAFETY.( lets hope they at least keep left. )

as you can see this topic really bothers me.

Speed is a funny thing. I am currently working in a country that gets all of its cars from Japan as imports. I think just about all of them have turbos and most have intercoolers. They are your usual spread of GT4 Celicas, 300ZX, Delica Vans, Hilux's etc . Anyway they are all more than capable of good speeds.

Max speed limit is 65kmph and most of the speed zones are 40kmph. That is it. They never rush and all get to where they need to go. I think it is all a matter of prospective. If you know it is going to take you 3 hrs to get somewhere then you allow 3 hours to get there, not 2 and then speed everywhere.

If you speed you deserve to get booked. No matter what colour you paint the offence it is still wrong. Like it or not greater speed = greater breaking distance = death to people who may not of otherwise died. It is one thing to say that people who have accidents can't drive it is another things to actually beleive it.

Do us all a favour and abide by the limits. They are actually designed bassed on a formula that takes into account many variables, least of all the chance of killing some kids who ain't old enough to know any better.

If you want to take up speeding try sky diving, if you want to go faster for longer then try it without the parachute.

This is an extract from my local driving licence:

"The Kingdom of Tonga welcomes careful and considerate drivers. Pace of life in Tonga is relaxing, so many may experience this also while driving"

Pretty much sums it up, the locals think nothing of driving at 20kmph in a 65 zone, if they feel like looking around they just slow right on down.馃榾馃榾

twoguns 路

one day you will be cruising along... obeying all the laws. you come to a hill and apply a little more throttle to help maintain a steady speed up the hill. and as you get to the top you start to back off. but to late. you realise about eight days later that even though you obeyed the law and kept at the speed limit, at the top of the hill just over the rise was a camera set up to catch those in the right lane over taking you cause you were a little slow going up. but as you reached the top your speed was 84 and the limit was 80. now you have a fine for 115 dollars that you need to fork out and one demerit point that you have lost for three years. on top of this you have to report it to your insurance company the next time you renew you policy that you were BUSTED for speeding. they then amend your premium. sounds like that was fair and that the law and the police jsut saved your life for sure on that one. or htats what the ads say.

its not about saftey and fair policing. the rule is no tolerance and revenue. its easier this way and more rewarding.
saftey is encouraging all drivers to have completed a driving course, by putting discounts on ins premiums for those who have and forcing all new drivers to do a course rather than hoping mum was the expert you thought and then realising when you 'panic braked mid corner as you didnt judge it right by five kays and now are sitting in hospital with some injury and your inducted into the hall of fame statistic for 'speed kills' and not a statistic for 'poor skills.'

besides in japan they have a lot of 'midnight clubs'. these clubs are made up of cars only that do more than 250 and some with cars capable of 300klmh. and they drive the highways at night. maybe thats their sanity check for the speeds they have. and japan is not as big as australia or parts of europe, you would drive of the road from sheer boredom and swerve the broken line for sanity checks if that mentality came here.

Brad 路

So let me guess this right....

You got booked doing 84kmph in an 80 kmph zone and you say things like obeying all the laws , obeyed the law and kept at the speed limit ????

You are gunna have to explain just how BREAKING the speed limit is obeying all the laws ? If you were OBEYING all the laws then you would not have gotten booked in the first place.

You walking away with a ticket is not a result of some guy trying to make $$$$ for his quota, it is a result of you speeding.

I am confussed now.

馃檨馃檨

twoguns 路

wasnt me but a mate. and i dont think that 84/80 in a 72 camper is speeding. how accurate is the speedo on your thirty odd year old car.
i also dont think 105/100 is also speeding. certainly not saving my life. my point is i jsut believe the focus is placed in the wrong direction.

Brad 路

Accuracy of speedo's is always an interesting issue.

Firstly my 30 year old car is 100% correct. But it does have a new VDO speedo with electronic pickup in it which allows me to set up the correct allowances for the 4WD tyres, anyway I digress.

Back to teh speed thing. Don't you find it funny that fault should always be in favour of teh person who is breaking teh law ? I mean if in doubt shouldn't they travel at say 75kmph in an 80 kmph zone ?? NO that would be silly, then they wouldn't be getting maximum KM for their time.
Where should teh limit be ? When I was a little younger we had the cops at our high school, the question was asked about these new speed camera things. The cops said " Don't worry they all work on 10% just like the radar guns " so what was teh end result ? Did we feel safe in the fact that we could drive safely on the speed limit ? Hell no, we just drove 10% faster and then winged if we got booked.
The limit is 80kmph so ANYTHING over should be booked, there is no excuse, if in doubt drive slower.

Now before anyone arcs up, Yes I do speed and yes I have been booked, but I don't complain about the fact I was caught doing the wrong thing. I do complain about everything else, but not the fact I was speeding. The old saying goes, "Do teh time do the crime"

I vote for zero tollerance..... :bounce:kiss

twoguns 路

and with the logic you have, which by the way i do agree with, as i do take caution around speed cameras in my bus.but with that logic in place you will now have some drivers travelling at less than the sign posted speed all the time. the concern while driving is on not getting booked for a pointless offence. the attention of the driver is then taken from the focus on driving safely to watching there speedo, and being distracted by the moron fair up their clacker and the other honking the horn and pointing to his speed as they go by.

my point is not speeding. i also speed. always will. my point is that the focus of all these campains is on SPEED. not driver training. not driver attitude. not safety of all road users.

think if the advertising budget that was used to tell everyone to slow down was actually used to tell everyone to consider others...learn to drive properly and we will reward you.

maybe i've hi-jacked a post with a slight left field view... so

once i was travelling in the company car. heading back to port from coffs. it was a late afternoon and school hols was in full swing. anyway. knowing the road quite well ahead i prepared to overtake the group of caravans and cars at the next overtaking oportunity i new was coming. i also new this would be the last oportunity to over take caravans (limited i think to 80klmh) fora while. so oportunity up i take it. passed three vans and a bombadore then the last van. as soon as i passed the bombadore i knew that it was an umarked. in those days all highway patrol had march rego. larger fuel tanks. sat a bit lower and those 12 slot like shinny rims. as soon as i got back to my lane i preceeded to pull up as the lights on the bombadore started to flash.

i got out of my car headed round the back with licence ready. the officer comes over and asks 'in a rush' i said 'no' just over taking slower trafic. he asked how fast do you think you were travelling. i responded i recognised your car as i went by and looked at the speedo. i was in the 140s i htink. he asked isnt that a bit excessive. i proceeded to explain my thoughts and actions... stating that i took all due care and new the roads quite well. that i believed that overtaking involved all due care based on the conditions of the road but at the sametime to overtake as quickly and safely as posible.i did not create an unsafe environment . i then asked him if i over took unsafely. he actually answered NO, but you did speed. we hten chatted for a while. in teh end i was given a fine for not using my indicator properly. he issued the offence... in his word that 'i should give you something' but at the same time said ' you were at least aware of the vehicles and goings on around you which is more han ive seen in a lot of drivers over the years.

i jsut like the idea where common sense does prevail...

Blue65 路

Hey look I stick rock hard to the speed limit. But I get seriously pissed off when the revenue police place their speed cameras to clock people as they go down a hill or as they acclerate to power up a hill in a 60 or 70km zone ... or when they stick their speeding cameras in deserted industrial areas when the speed limit suddenly drops to 60 from 80 for no apparent reason.

They are chasing after people who are going a few km over the limit in very low speed zones areas for the pure sake of revenue raising. If they were placing their cameras in black or red spot areas - or near schools or local surburbian roads - I would not complain.
