being built to be driven, needs some cleaning up, as has not be driven much over last couple of years, needs a good tune, and going over, withh be def going for rod rego, but am looking into what options i have for full.....i know it needs seat bealts, and seats covered. Also noise test.... will post lots of pics once i have her...... very excited.....

Is the fuel tank at the front operational or ornamental. Surely that must pose some roadworthy issues having a fuel cell being the first place for impact on a head on collision???? It looks awesome though.

ornamental....has standard fuel tank. the original builder, ive noticed does it a bit on rods he builds.... bit of a nod to the old drag cars..some i know dont like it, but i kinda dig it..thinking maybe it could hold bourbon or something.....lol

Hmmmm bourbon, need to run a straw up to the dash 馃憤馃憤 Not that I support drink driving of course....... I dig the tank at the front like the old rods had. Just hate to be in a head on, could be interesting! Looks like a cool ride though, will love to hear how you go with passing rego. Hope to see it out and about!

yes it is channeled..2 inches to the best of my knowledge...just got it home....longgg drive...needs a tune, and some love to get her running right....

need some parts.....
backing plates for drums, mine have holes drilled in them for guard mounts and im going to change the way they mount
stock, or even modded exhaust, mine is wayy to loud for rego....just something legal
maybe some stock front seats,,may just get mine covered..have not decided
stock Spring Plates..or if u know where i can get some dropped certified/ engineered ones, mine are welded up and wont pass as are now...
has anyone actually got a beam extension passed by engineer? if so who, and who made it, mine as i have no certification from guy that made it wont pass as is..

need some other stuff.....but for now thats the first stuff on list...ive decided to keep it as to be honest it rocks, and when i get everything done/ passed which i have been told i can i wont know of any others in Vic that are legal on the road....

and it begins.......u can see on right side a massive wheel spacer..yer thats illegal...and heavy as shit...so im off to Ajax wheels who have done lots of work for me and friends over the years to get my off set on my rims redone to get the wheels as far out as possible (and legal)......the spacers are so heavy..if i was to go down that road id be getting some machined up..

ok..new plugs, dizzy cap, rotor button and carbi clean..and she is already running better...i think the plugs had been in it for a lonnng time..one was totally different....lol....plug leads are next as i suspect they have been on it for a long time too....i need to read up on how to tune this carbi also...tightened up a bunch of things too....the car has spent some time in a shed..driven very rarely and to be honest not looked after....so as much as i wanted it all done, i am happy as ill need to go over everything and check its right..and being my first vw ill understand how they go together which is good....

Neat looking ride ran5. It's amazing how the humle beetle can be tranformed into such a monster. Probably the reason I love these little beasts more than any other.

just picked up longer axles, and axle tubes, and some big phat drums.....from Mark....so...i had 10cm rear spacers that i have had to take off,.....so i need to find that 10cm again.... i had wheel offset changed, thats given me 2cm, longer axles gives me another 3 cm, so up to 5cm, then drums another 1.5cm...so upto 6.5cm.........with tryres that dont buldge out like my current ones i can get another 2-2.3 cm..so ill be close....

So....ive been too busy..unmotivated etc etc with the bug....but the rain today stopped me from heading into bobbers n choppers show...so i thought i best actually start....first thing get her off the ground and wheels off....

as u can see in above pic she had massive spacers...i have the longer axles and tubes and type 3 drums all form Empi (thanx mate) ive fitted one side..but have not done this side yet...

It also have front spacers..im thinking i get a new beam..im sure ive read u can get wider than stock ones?

i have to take the beam off so i can take the extension off also..that needs to be sand blasted and x rayed..and if it looks shit once blasted or doesnt pass ill need a new one made that will pass

The rear spring plates are coming off too...as they are welded up..and that wont pass inspection or xray tests here...so ill get someone to make new ones for me using these as a template...

so if you have any thoughts or advice along this rebuild please post em up....im great and doing some things..but really cannot weld for shit, and dont have the means to fabricate...... who does widened beams? thinking ill drop engine and box out and get them looked over..who would be good to do that, its a modded 1600...anyone know anyone that could remake spring plates that will pass xray tests.....and maybe even the beam extension.,....?

Ok. Not much done but I now have a mate on board. Matt is a certified welder and does a lot of fab work. So I'm ripping off spring plates and beam extension and he will re make them. Then I'll get them x rayed.

We have mate. He is going to get an extension from Matt who is making mine. We worked out its 6.3 inches forward and 4.6 lifted. Or lowed. Lol. New design looks way better. After that we start on plates, which I think are 4inch drops

Oh. How do u get stock set up on rear splines. They came out when I removed plates. I'm not sure what stock placement is

Have you talked to Overkill eng, on this forum.
He's made a bomproof one and if enough peeps want one he can get them engineered and certified.

Sounds good, im interested. I got one off The VolksRod Shop (8" 2.5Drop BJ2BJ) that I was intending to try to get certified soon with kelvin Ney Engineering . With the new "National" codes that should mean "engineered and certified" for all states?

My extension is on its way to being made and certified etc. was sent more updates today. Looking good. And all done properly

ok..its for sale...owes me just over 9....currently suspension is off and in process of making new stuff so it can pass engineering....still have original ones, u could throw them back on and run on club plates..or cont down road im going and have nice new fancy ones........ ranmaclurkin@me.com for details and offers
