First I must say it is good to see someone on this forum who can spell colour!

I am sure Lee will have some contributions?

Personally I like an industrial light grey or satin black.

engine bay colour is a determining factor. Mitchell

LUFTMEISTER 路

I think this is a leading question your honour.馃シ

Bizarre 路

I agree with Mitch

Contact lee to discuss mota Kulars

matt 路

i like colour coded fan shrouds, but cant go past chrome/silver or black 馃槈

hellbugged 路

Black black or black...hide the wiring as best you can and some functional chrome accents

matberry 路

mmmm black is good

Have a look at my facebook page of engines click on the link below

Gloss black

Smiley 路

Grey is also good.

A lighter colour is better in my opinion. It shows up any leaks better than black does.

I've always prefered colour coded to the car

But black and chrome go together nicely

H don't forget to tell your mate to make sure the tinware fits correctly(I know u know)but all I seem to do Lately is fit missing/incorrect tin!black, chrome, chrome chinese, colour coded or oak or beech it's all shit if it don't fit like a stock vw it's worth the time to make it fit right!especially with summer comming up.P.S. Surfboards are ready for pickup

Joel 路

Pffft tinware's for suckers....

Checkerplate and rust is where it's at.

And yes the morons actually drove it like that....馃お

Sides 路

Always liked the look of the 356's where they had satin black for cylinder head tins, f & rear plates etc. but then light gray for just the fan shroud.... on the Super's possibly ???

But then in my mind very hard to better a 356 in almost any way !!!

馃憤

kombibob 路

Nothing like the look of a standard 1600 painted red with some yellow highlights 馃槈

BeetleJuice 路

Black is neat and functional!..Having said that, each to thier own!馃槑

mikew 路

Depends on the engine bay I think, mine I colour coded the same as car until I painted, found it was too much and used white as the sides of the car where white!
Like the grey pic above!!

vlad01 路

lol nothing beats the "LEE" colour scheme 馃槈

h 路

Joel 路

How bout red on red with red highlights??

68AutoBug 路

great pics loving the RED job 馃槀
my mate is diggin the bright paint, kinda summery he said 馃憤
Lee did you just paint the seeing side or the whole fan house like the behind side? - was the question posed,
as my mate thinks only to paint the bits you see..
I said he was crazy but he reckons he can save on paint n with the left overs he can paint up the brake drums..
I reckon he mad as he runs factory stoko skinnys
anymore pics so I can show him the right way to go..

Mind if i post a pic of your engine on my facebook page?

beetleboyjeff 路

I rather like chrome myself.

surfpig 路

daves old bus right?

Anthiron 路

Satin Black for engine tin all the way. I Prefer billet parts over chrome.

I Once painted my engine Satin black with orange genny pulley and orange rocker covers. Looked reasonable.

It looks like it's out of a magazine from 1989. Is this really what your engine looks like?

Wow

Hi
I always paint the tinware inside and out.. both sides...
doesn't matter if its seen or not...
it also protects against rust..

paint isn't expensive... lol

rust is... lol

I have stripped and painted My fan shroud a number of times..

I have a doghouse shroud I used originally, and it will be redone and refitted next winter... with a new doghouse oil cooler..

LEE

h 路

oh cool right
can't want to see the strip n refit pics
yep I think it's prolly best to paint the whole fan house I think too
my silly friend 馃お
are you thinking of changing the colour scheme?
what colours do you have in mind?

68AutoBug 路

I have used High temperature paint which isn't shiny and then painted with clear over the top to make it shiny..

I have also used gloss red engine enamel too...

after looking back at those early photos the Red with lots of yellow looked good.. I thought..

I did think that there was too much yellow at times...

but the Red and Yellow really do look great... IMHO..

Yellow seems to be more difficult to spray...
I've tried different brands... but all seem difficult so its OK to use on hoses etc.. sometimes needing to be redone a number of times...

I've seen pink and blue fan shrouds and some of the hammertone blues looked OK...

but I think I'll stick to Red... lol

cheers

LEE

even though some of the paints say no undercoat is needed..
it really is needed for a good finish... and to stop chips etc..

LEE

I am so jealous 'cos I,ve just been rebuilding my engine and obviously you want it to look a lot prettier when it's all put back together so everything has been spotlessly cleaned and polished and where I could it's all been resprayed but there is no way that a FI engine can look nice. I'm afraid what with all the wiring and plumbing in of all the vacuum pipes ( I bought 2 metres and it wasn't enough!!) and other pipes and tubing it still looks a mess. I was at one point very tempted to go to carbs but decided to persevere with FI in the end馃お

64vwmark 路

How about orange and chrome...

h 路

well thats mad..
n lee you take the 'rainbow' cake..
maybe glitter could be the trick for the next colour scheme lee! just a thought..?
works on a beach buggy

I only like two (2) colours in the engine bay. It keeps it simple. I like the engine bay to be that of the car and 'black' for all the other stuff. Black, IMO is the most practical. But do it how ever you like as you (or your friend) is the one who has to look at it and clean it. Here is a pic of the engine bay in my race car.

I painted mine copper.
