Yeah it's the one from the UK built by Simon Fox. Importing is easy, just need an import permit for the car and in QLD just have to get modern compliant seat belts fitted. Plus its gotta pass roadworthy of course. Pretty straight forward. Most stressful is hoping it arrives with no damage while in transit.

Thanks! Yeah pretty stoked that's for sure. Can't wait to go cruising in it. Will do my best to get it around to a few shows. Will be at any QLD shows for sure.

Thanks, yeah they all a dream for me too. Very excited for when they arrive.

The '62 I had as my desk top image a few years ago when I decided I wanted to get a Squareback again. I thought it was the coolest Type 3 I had ever seen. Then whilst searching around for cars for sale, I found the exact car for sale in the UK at a classic car dealer. Couldn't believe it. I had to make it mine.
The '69 Panel I had been watching for a while on a US VW site for a long time & had to made it happen.
The '63 happened because I had a chance to get the famous Squareblack from the UK but had to let it go. Then heard that Foxy's Squareback was going to be on the market soon. Tracked Simon down directly & hit him up. At that point it was already sold so I bought the Panel instead. Then after I had done the deal on the Panel, Simon got back in touch & said the deal didn't work out. It was too good a chance to pass up so made it happen.
So in short... just searching the net for cars for sale all the time & they will pop up eventually. No real websites as such just general searches.

I read the Volksworld article on this car. Absolutely beautiful man, can't wait to see it at a show

Yeah not long now. Should be here and on the road mid March. Gonna be crazy to finally see it!

Will you be bringing the cars to Valla this year?
ColonyVW ·
mickya wrote:Will you be bringing the cars to Valla this year?
I can only drive at a time, so will only be the one car I am sorry to say. Most likely the panel van. The '63 at this point in time will not be taken on longer trips like that. See what happens though? Either way, at least one of them will at Valla. Looking forward to it !!
telf ·
All you need now is the Squareblack for the complete collection. Haha. Good job. That rosters just got a little bit bigger.

Funny enough you say that as I actually did have it invoiced to me late last year. Had the deal done with a classic car dealer in the UK for it but I backed out in the last minute due to financial concerns with the economy here. Think I have more than made up for it now though. haha.
telf ·
You Bugger. You'll be able to open a T3D show room soon. 1 lucky show room. Nice job.

do you have someone on the ground there to look over the cars or do you go on their reputation
ColonyVW ·
robb wrote:do you have someone on the ground there to look over the cars or do you go on their reputation
Just go on their reputation & do as much homework as I can. I did however happen to be in the USA for other business & had the chance to inspect the panel van. A little risky but so far, so good.
robb ·
thanks for that keep up the good work

Not just taking it, he bringing it back home. Page 15 has a brief article on the purchase of it by Clint as issue was just being touched up. Full article is on page 50 of latest volksworld and it explains how it was originally from OZ.
Quality resto. Well done on purchase.

As of yesterday the '63 is all registered and on the road now. Went very smoothly without a hitch. Stoked on how good it is to drive as well. Now it's time to enjoy it. I also got the same plates it had when it was found down near Adelaide back in the day. Finishes off the story of it returning back home to Australia nicely I thought. More pics to come soon.

When the hell is this rain gonna stop? Every chance I get to take it out, it's bloody raining. I have only driven it once yet, itching to take it out. Hopefully this weekend we see some sunshine in the sunshine state !!

Perfect weather up here today so took the '63 out for a spin. Clocked up some good kilometres in it too. Gotta say it drives like a dream, so stoked.
Dropped in to see Alan at Das Resto Haus for a chin wag, thanks for the chat Alan. Then popped up to Manly to see a friend & grabbed some fish 'n' chips by the bay. Took the opportunity to get some happy snaps by the bay.
Then back home & took the '62 out for spin cause it has felt neglected of late. The '62 really has so much more power than the '63 or the '69, so much fun to drive. So loud compared to the other two as well, love it. I got back in time to give the '69 a wash.
A great day in all. Gotta love a day that involves VW's. More planned for tomorrow as well.
ColonyVW ·
Went for a cruise in the '63 today as it had been a few weeks since I had a chance to drive any of my cars. Going away to places like the states is cool but I get withdrawal symptoms from not driving my babies. Man I love driving an VW !!
Took the chance to snap a couple pics along the way for all to share, enjoy.
Looking forward to tomorrow's cruise up the Sunshine Coast. Will take the '69 tomorrow. See some of you there.

ohh i just wee'd a little , very nice ..get plenty of pics on the cruise🙂

Hey mate, not sure on exactly the colour code but here is the word from Simon Fox (the guy who built the car)
Colour is a VW/Audi 80s colour called unsuprisingly enough 'grey metallic'.
Hope that helps?

Hey mate... thanks for that. I am pretty stoked. They are 135's with 15x4.5" on the front, 205's with 15x5.5" on the rear.

Been very busy of late with business, family & everything else that goes on in life. So I have not been on here much of late. Thought I would share a few pics from my trip down to Valla & back. Was a good time but didn't get to hang at Valla itself as much as I would've liked. But all was good though when I was there. Such a fun time driving the '63 down & back as well, good times. My schedule is pretty busy the months ahead but hope to catch up with some of you soon enough.
On the drive down...
At Valla...
On the way home...
Home sweet home...
