62deluxe ·

how many of you mainlanders (Australians) are planning on coming?

VWCOOL ·

I knew nothing about it! But it's worth considering. Might be a good way to run-ina new engine...!:bounce

jenz58 ·

There are lots of people going from what I can gather from talk, or at least from Vic.

It'll be worth registering yourself in if you can manage the time off:thumb

There are a few people only doing the three days so they can get back too work

HotRodMatt ·

Would be a good trip ... but at least we have the Shootout on Sunday to keep us NSW folk occupied.

Robo ·

Too far away for me :cry
Rob....

62deluxe ·

This was what I hoped. Letters have been sent to most clubs but not everyone is in a club! It looks like being a great event, Shannons, Tas gov, City motors VW and volkswagen australia and others I've forgotten have come on board. There will even be a car transporter following the cavalcade in case of breakdowns for the trip south! Not that vws break down of course!! VW Aus will be leading the cavalcade with a New Beetle cabriolet.
Can't wait!! 😘kiss

byronbus ·

Sounds great, beautiful in tassy in November, what a way to spend a week, unfortunately im with rob, a long way to travel in 36hp bus

62deluxe ·

The more the merrier!!😎😎
Anymore than 36hp and you're just being greedy!

[Edited on 18-8-2003 by 62deluxe]

Jay_1965vw ·

I'm coming!
Just need to figure out how to book the boat with no credit card and no cheque book??

volma1 ·

Jay try contacting your local travel agent as they all deal with the Spirit of Tamania. volma. For those North Islanders with doubts about their vws making it to Tas, I travelled to Sydney this Easter to the Nationals and Bug-In in a 36 hp 6v 1960 kombi along with Peter and Pat in their 36hp 1960 beetle with each car doing over 3000 ks with no problems. volma

BenettonVW ·

We are coming.. If the Notch will get on the boat.. 🙂

Thinking Friday - Monday... hmm..

Need to talk to BLKBUG & co.. Dave, are we all staying together?

silver ·

Won't go on principle, seeing as how Shannons wouldn't insure my Kombi so I will have to wait for the Golden Jubilee in Sydney......

62deluxe ·

Well silver I hate to say it but Shannons aren't going to miss you but youu'll miss out if you don't come!!😎

volma1 ·

Jers don't you sleep. Find it difficult that Shannons won't insure a vw of any type. Try Brett Pitfield on 1300139006 or mob 0419289301 at Shannons in Hobart or Matt Brinsden in Melb. Shannons for insurance. volma

jenz58 ·

Jay, any travel agent and use EFT:thumb

62deluxe ·

Hey volmaism. Sleep is for those that have too much time! Actually I'm on arvo shift this week so getting up early isn't an issue this week. Will be next week though! 59 is at bodyworks this week so not alot to do.😎

duncombemu ·

We're going to be there. It'll be great to put faces to the people we 'feel' we already know (from the forum).:thumb
Regards,
Mark

lugnuts ·

Yeah the wheels can go on the Spirit for free but the arms and legs cost an arm and a leg.:o

Buger Gary ·

Hey Jeremy are you going to have a run up to our agm on sunday or are you working?
Gary.

62deluxe ·

G'day Gaz. Would love to come up but girlfriend is down from Queenie and silly me promised I'd do some of that housey stuff!! 🙁
Haven't seen you in ages! how's the north-west?😎

volma1 ·

Hey Lugnuts the fare over is as cheap as chips. $105 each way incl your car, cheaper than driving to Valla from Sydney and better scenery.volma

62deluxe ·

See coming to Tassie isn't such a hassle!!
You mainlanders just have it too easy that's all!! So stop making excuses and get over here in Nov. or you'll miss out! So there.😎

Buger Gary ·

Yes Jeremy, I find that to play with our toys we have to do the housey thing every now and again to keep them happy. We are all pretty good up here in the north.Working hard saving some spondulies for November.
Gary.

jenz58 ·

Go here for the Tassie Ferry costs

http://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/fares/melb_dev.htm

You can even book online to make it easy
:thumb

If you think the costs are high for accommodsation go here and use Youth Hostels and still be near the action

http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/search/state.cfm?stateid=5

Well it was worth a plug:thumb

I'm sure there are camping grounds etc

After being at Valla it is well worth staying were most others are though, much more fun🙂

Remember to say you are with the VW group as they are going to have the cars together so they can drive off the boat together, so it is probably better if you ring rather than book online.

62deluxe ·

Cool cool cool.
Can't wait.
Now i've just got to finish the car.....

BenettonVW ·

Good call, and how can we get these forms if we need them..

jenz58 ·

Is someone able to put the file up here so people not connected with a club, or attending meetings, can get a copy/print off

Just looked at club news letter and nothing. Also looked back at earlier post and could not find it. I thought we had it on here once??:jesus

62deluxe ·

I put the contact details on the bottom of my original posting!!
You need to register so we know numbers for dinners, badges, cavacade, show entry etc etc.

pandpcurran@ozemail.com.au
😎

62deluxe ·

Just a little bump:bounce

volma1 ·

Jeremy can you scan a copy of the reg form and itinerary to post as my scanner has lost interest and refuses to work. volma

62deluxe ·

Well if I had a scanner I would but I don't!
All anyone has to do is e-mail the above address and everything will be sorted for them!!!😎

volma1 ·

Attached registration and agenda. May have to be resized.volma1

62deluxe ·

Hey Volma you forgot the most important page!!
The one with all the accomodation details and the indemnity form etc.
The easiest way for anyone interested is just to e-mail the event director directly!!
email address;
pandpcurran@ozemail.com.au
This really is the best option.😎

volma1 ·

Don't have that page, besides P&P should post these pages as the event is there's.volma

Tim_H ·

We have just begun a new Vw club here in the Riverina and although I won't be able to make it to the cavelcade, I would like to organise a get together with cars passing the Wagga or Albury areas on the Hume Hwy. If you know of a group comming through and would like to get together, please let me know.
I wish I was going!!!!
:cry

volma1 ·

OK, OK, OK I get the message, I get the picture viz a viz, here comes the accommodation guide and disclaimer Jers. volma1

volma1 ·

Having trouble posting this disclaimer and accommodation guide. Need help. volma

volma1 ·

try again aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!volma1

volma1 ·

try again aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!volma1

62deluxe ·

Like I said just contact the event organisers and you'll be fixed up with ALL
the OFFICIAL documents and any other info you need. It will be readable too. P & P have all the info you need, just e-mail them and it will be sorted! I don't think the scans are real clear, but they give you an idea of what is happening.😎
P&P asked me to put this on the forum in the first place because they aren't on it. It is not the official way to sign up, just a way of making everyone aware of the cavalcade etc.
Contact; pandpcurran@ozemail.com.au for all paperwork and info.😎

[Edited on 2-9-2003 by 62deluxe]

volma1 ·

Just trying to help out and give people an idea of what's happening, never meant to be official forms, maybe but I'll but out. cheers, volma1

62deluxe ·

Wasn't having a go at you Vol. Just trying to keep it simple and save confusion. If they contact p&p direct then it's easy to sort out for everyone. Thanks bud.😎

volma1 ·

Cheers Jers. volma1:thumb

jenz58 ·

If you are planning on going then you'd better at least book the ferry ASAP because they are getting booked out ahead.

For interest a Travel Industry article. Sydney to get Spirit of Tasmania III, ferry, in January of next year😎

Tasmania boasts record visitor figures

Tasmania has defied tourism trends by attracting a record 703,100 visitor arrivals for the year ended June 30.

Tourism Tasmania chief executive Rob Giason said the state had achieved a 22.1 per cent growth on the previous year, with international arrivals ahead by 12.3 per cent and domestic visitors increasing 28.6 percent.

Giason said a big factor behind the growth was Tasmania’s new marketing thrust, using breakthrough methods to analyse research findings, segment the markets and get the advertising messages right.

“Not only did Tasmania defy a national downturn with the 12.3 per cent increase in international arrivals, but we appear to be leading the tourism recovery charge on the domestic front as well,” he said.

Tasmania’s largest holiday market, Victoria, grew by 41 per cent, but New South Wales experienced the largest boost, posting a growth of 52 per cent, driven by an advertising campaign promoting Tasmania as a “Rejuvenating Journey”.

Tourism Tasmania research revealed the campaign lifted awareness for Tasmania by 400 per cent in New South Wales.

“Tasmania is on a roll thanks to changing travel habits, unprecedented access and a marketing message that seems to be pushing the right buttons,” Giason said.

The Tasmanian government’s decision to put Spirit of Tasmania I and II on the Bass Strait run last year had paid dividends, with sea visits up 61.4 per cent over the previous year.

“That’s a great result, and we’re looking to boost sea arrivals by an extra 51,000 when Spirit of Tasmania III begins cruising from Sydney to Devonport in January,” Giason said.

“We are also well positioned on the airline front, with a record number of seats on offer and Qantas and Virgin Blue competing vigorously. It’s now easier than ever to get to Tasmania.”

Thanx for the plug Jenz. 😎😎😎
:party

jenz58 ·

So K:thumb

The least I can do after free drinks the other night compliments of Island Escape Tours:beer

It is getting big over there in Tassie

People are starting to come in the door to book for Spring & Summer

So yes, book now cos others are starting too

volma1 ·

bump!!!!!!!!!😀

jenz58 ·

Had someone enquiring about accommodation the other day. They are going to contact the club here

How are the bookings going, and what are the main venues people will be staying at?

Are any of them booked out already etc?

It seems like people are still deciding and planning

62deluxe ·

The recommended venues, prices and contact details are all on the registration form. Another good reason to register now!! Don't know if any are booked out but I wouldn't leave it too late. The organisers have been recieving at least 2 or 3 registations every day for a few days now!!😎

jenz58 ·

Kicked this up to the top for a while so people have a chance to spot it and get organised

It is an event well worth supporting and going on if you can

The more that go the more fun as well.

Tassie is a beautiful island to be cruising around with a bunch of other dubbers

Because it is over water, you need to book the ferry, at least, pretty soon, it'd decision time:thumb

62deluxe ·

The more the merrier, and we're all friendly down here. Honest!!😎

jenz58 ·

Takes a Taswegian to reply😀

Everyone else is out booking I'm sure:thumb

Know J was gonna book herself and Wolf on the ferry today:thumb

Accom is done with others🙂

62deluxe ·

Hey, even if no-one else comes I'll be there!!🙁

jenz58 ·

They'll be there:kiss

Know a lot of hands went up at our club meeting a couple of months ago, and only a handful of them are on here (that was not intended but not changing it. Figure it out yourself🙂 Weeeeelllll it's late and I'm tired)

62deluxe ·

cryptic.....
very confusing...............😎

Jay_1965vw ·

I'm booked, I'll be there 😀

I heard that there are 50 cars booked on the ferry, so you won't be on your own mate 😉 Not by any means!

Jay

handycam ·

thats me :thumb

Flying VW ·

I've been given the impression that there are no Service Stations between the Ship and Hobart. Is this true ?.Because I don't think a Kombi would make it that far I know a Beetle barely will. 🙂

volma1 ·

What D__Head told you that. Do they live in a hole in the ground. There are at least 7 that I know of b4 you get to Deloraine and that is only 40ks away from the boat on the way to Launceston and not even going into Devonport or turning off the Highway to Latrobe. Perhaps 30 more b4 Hobart. As it is there are vouchers for cheaper fuel in East Devonport with your receipts for rego. You will definitely not be wandering around looking for fuel.volma1

Flying VW ·

I thought there would have to be Fuel along there since it's a major road. But a few people got the Impression there wasn't since we were told to carry enough for the trip.

Like we would be filling up with Jerry cans or something. 🙂

volma1 ·

If you are carrying gas bottles(filled) or jerry cans with fuel they will be confiscated at the boat b4 you leave as the tickets warn against carrying either. There is no refund or storage for them upon your return, so if you are carrying either stash them safely and don't let on to the persons loading the boat. It happened to me last year and I had only the disposable cannisters for the portable stove.volma1

Flying VW ·

Yeah Cool ..
I'm glad thats cleared up.
I guess we will have to stop somewhere after we leave Devonport. Imagine pushing 50 Volkswagans to Hobart. hahaha 🙂 I know of two Beetles that are comming that can barely do 300 kms on a tank.

jenz58 ·

http://www.shellau.com/petrolpricing/tas/index_l2_tas_suburb.html

Shell servo's in Tassie:thumb

Plus there's BP, Caltex, Mobil etc, etc

With the number of mainlands heading over there these days in their own cars I would imagine lots more petrol stations opening up or at least upgrading facilities

It does sound like someone has had their head in the sand:jesus

There is wonderful wilderness over there in Tassie, but it is not the wilderness

Hey, enjoy the cavalcade everyone:sandrine

handycam ·

LOL some people must think we live in caves down here 2 but yes with the boat b carefull thay cheeck 4 every thing hide it well😀:thumb

Buger Gary ·

I think the main reason that they want everyone to have full tanks is because they are running a tight scedule and they don't want us to break formation to get fuel on the way.Imagin if people started dropping out all over the place it would be kaos for the orginisers. You should be able to do each day on a tank I recon.
Gary🙂

62deluxe ·

You hit the nail on the head Gary!! The last thing we want is cars disappearing all over the place looking for fuel. You will have plenty of opportunity to fill up when you get off the boat in Devonport and if you really need to, at one of our stops on the way.😎

daisy ·

we so wanted too join in this event ...
but we have been waiting for our mechanic too fix the motor on our kombi .... called in yesterday and she's not going to be ready til next week ....

Flying VW ·

Us Victorians cant wait to get down there. If there are any Victorians who arn't going you can see us leave Station peir from 6. PM onwards tonight, we are leaving at 9 PM 🙂

last celtic warrior ·

For all those that couldn't make the Cavalcade, here's a quick glance...

I don't have my buggy on the road right now, so we went down for a look-see in the Pug and decided to join the Cavalcade for a few km just to claim technically that I was in it. LOL

Stealth ·

My car was number 98 out of 106 that cruised all the way down from the Boat to Hobart, If you didnt go, you don't know what you missed, It was great and they are still there having fun! I forgot the camera 🙁 anyone else posted pics yet??

last celtic warrior ·

Mate, try my little post... There's actually a pic of you in there.

My little post about the Cavalcade
