Woke up this morning, did my morning routine to get ready for work, walk out the front to Zelda and guess what?
Some dickheads have jumped on the roof, pushing it in, the bonnet is crumpled in more places than one, windscreen wipers all over the floor, side mirrors ripped off, marks down the side.
I'm thinking the insurance company won't even bother.
Shit may be for sale off of her, not 100% sure yet. We'll see what the insurance company do, it might be a write off, I doubt they'll even give me any cash as I've only got third party fire and theft.
And to think I'm waiting for all these bits in the post, I'll most likely just be selling them straight away too. Unless someone wants to give me another L bug... 馃檨
Oh well, it might be the end of Zelda or it might not be. She might go into storage or she might be parted out. Who knows, I sure as hell don't at the moment...

Bastards! with third party only then you have no insurance for Zelda, 馃憥 simmilar thing happened to my cousins daughter recently, saved up to buy her own car and some mongrels kicked the shit out of it just for something to do, now she's driving around in a dented up POS instead of a nice straight pride and joy 馃槵. Yep, insurance is the killer.
I'm going to have to pay for everything out of my own pocket. Including a respray/touch up paint job. This isn't going to be a cheap fix unfortunately!
Here are some quick photos I took.
I didn't think I was so attached to Zelda, but swear I had something stuck in my eye when I saw it...
I'm just really pissed off that this has happened. The fact that it happened to my car and only my car on the street, that pisses me right off. The biggest thing I probably need is the bonnet, the rest will just be metal repair, whereas the bonnet is way too crumpled to just be pushed out, in my opinion anyway.
Have reported to police, all of that shit has been dealt with. She's now under the carport and I'm waiting for a lift into work.
WHAT A GREAT DAY TO START FRIDAY!!

In the morning I discovered that some idiots had thrown some kind of rock or big clump of dirt at the middle of my back window. Luckily the window didn't break, but whatever they threw broke up and covered the car in dirt and small gravel, leaving a lot of fine scratches in the middle of the window. Unfortunately, you were nowhere near as lucky as me. I have no idea why these people do it.

I really appreciate everyones response and what not, I really appreciate the support!
I'm going to stick with her, I'm really glad that the insurance company are actually considering helping out, that is a weight off my shoulders that is for sure!
My main concern is money at the moment, I've spent x amount of dollars on the engine and what not and now for this to happen, if I have to pay for this out of my own pocket, it is going to cost quite a bit. Like, sure, the panel beater can pop the dent out, but how much is that going to cost? Then the roof needs to get a coat of paint or two to make sure the bare metal is covered. It's just crazy how much this is going to cost me in the long run, if I have to do it out of my own pocket.
Hell, if the insurance company pays for this, I'm going to be ecstatic. My other concern is the fact that I don't actually have a car to drive while Zelda is being fixed...
Might have to steal the misses' for a bit...

A car thief might not be detirred by a car alarm but kids which are who I would suspect of something like this would be pretty brave to keep jumping up on a car once the alarm goes off.
Just the shock of the alarm going off would probably be enoughto frighten them off, modern alarms are very loud, mine makes people passing by jump when I just arm and disarm it, going off it hurts your ears.

I got a notch roof out pretty straight using nothing but my back and a bit of the hell of my hands.

wtf? how did you read my mind? when I first read this thread that was one of my first thoughts.
use a 12v portable electric fence unit. connect the active to the body, power to the battery, ground to a metal plate you can chuck on the ground under the car, wire it to a switch you can toggle with a plastic pipe or pole under the car somewhere and you're set!
only problem is if a dick head touched your car and gets a nasty shock, this will provoke them to stone the car or something similar. So the only way is a MOT (micro wave transformer) which is 2.2Kv and can output over 1 amp so that should be instant kill.
killing them dead is the only sure way to protect your car imho.

Have reported to police, all of that shit has been dealt with. She's now under the carport and I'm waiting for a lift into work.
WHAT A GREAT DAY TO START FRIDAY!!
(sarcasm should be noted).

Although, blowing up watermelons would be quite fun at the moment...

Over Christmas there were some white beetles parked around Leigh St & Gawler Place. They were like pot plants, with trees growing out of them. Over Christmas/New year, idiots were (obviously) jumping on the bonnets, just like what happened to yours.
Yeah, this is why I wasn't going to make it to DOVW 馃檨
Oh well, should be lining up a new VW very soon hopefully. If all goes to plan, should be cruising around in a Type 3 Squareback which is very exciting to say the least!

Massive bummer that this happened to Zelda... I feel for ya dude !!!
Question tho - is she not drivable while deciding what you're going to do ???
Type3's are cool and always loved the look of the early Notch, but if you're truly a Bug guy it may not feel right driving one.

IMHO stick with Zelda... Jezebel was my first car, and despite some rough patches along the way I'm so glad still have her 20 years on.

Hey Dave!
Yeah, it is a huge bummer. I'm going to stick with her if I can, but she'll become the weekend play car.
The Square, which I'm calling Grettle, will be the daily driver that will look cool, Zelda will still, hopefully, stick around.
I'm selling some stuff that I bought for Zelda as well, so that I can gather the funds for some fixes to Grettle but other than that, Grettle is ready to go.
Will keep everyone updated with Grettle, hoping I can head out to see her later this afternoon and take some photos and inspect her a lot more.
I have to admit, I must thank everyone for their support and kind words, I really do appreciate it!

Give me a call if you want someone to look over the squareback with you. There are two for sale in Adelaide I'm aware of.
Cheers Dave
SebastienPeek 路
There's one just near mine Dave, it was advertised in the paper yesterday and went and took a look this morning.
Going back to take a second look later this afternoon if all goes to plan, otherwise I might have to look at the other two that I know of...
If I need a hand though, I'll give you a buzz!
Thanks Dave!
ragged 路
Have you seen the two on ebay?
SebastienPeek 路
Yeah, I saw them on eBay. They're earlier models too.
But require a decent amount of work to get back on the road.
This one I'm looking at just needs to be re-registered and some bubbles fixed.
Should be a day work maximum.

Hang in there champion ... all will be well .... show them what Vee Dubbers are made of!
Green T4 路
A freiend of mine has a Martini Olive Beetle for sale, at Goolwa.
Maris
SebastienPeek 路
Alright, so today is the day that I should get a call about what happens next.
Should find out today as well whether or not I get a new car...
gerggl 路
Agreed ...find a panelbeater who absolutely knows how to achieve the best result ... this may mean they might not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for! Good luck!

Well, I'm actually really hoping that the insurance company doesn't cover me. It means that Dad will be buying Zelda off of me, which means I'll still be able to do stuff to her! 馃榾

If I find out who did it, reckon you'd come down and blow them up? 馃槈
Ah well, I'm just really anxious to see what comes of today.

In that case, contact Ian Poynter at Holden Hill. Wait, I'd heard his workshop has moved. Call Volksfactory, they'll know where he is.
They can do ANYTHING with Volkswagen metal.!
Maris
SebastienPeek 路
We'll see Maris, depending on what happens today will depend on whether or not I get the car back in my possession and if so, then I'll be selling her to Dad and I'll give him Ian's details.
Thanks again!

Looks like I won't be getting a car anytime soon!
The pan was great, the interior not so much.
I don't know, maybe I was dreaming, offered him $1,000 as a maximum.
No go.
Time to look for something more modern, I may be saying goodbye to the VW world soon 馃檨

are the same guys walking past your place again tonight ???? keep an eye open
