Great to see! Sounds like you are making good progress.
I'm in the middle of the same process so best of luck.
Keep us posted.:thumb
byronbus ·
Sweet, bring on the pics :thumb:thumb
Andy ·
Salahahdin Great to see all is coming along well. Is Kevin running better now?
Love the pic. Can't wait for more.
You'll have to drop over one day and meet 'Andy'
:thumb
Salahahdin ·
Hey Andy HOW YOU DOIN' :P
Poor me just can't seem to get his 1800 running right. I have narrowed it down to the accelerator pump linkages. The finest adjustment makes a world of difference. So now I am fine tuning those, But apart from that He sure is running alot better since I first aquired Him.
And YEAH I'd love to come over and meet ANDY.
Got loads of Pics coming, The Pastell-White 2-Pac roof the waist job looks so damn good, I love it.
Just waiting for pics to be transfered from camera (not mine) to my comp.
They'll be here in next few days. CANT WAIT 😎

Boy, I never thought that this Resto work could ever be this enjoyable. I never in my life thought I would enjoy this sort of thing.
I never thought a V.W. of all marques could sink it's claws in get me hooked.
Her is the Passenger door with it's new window seals and bailey channels. Not a spot of rust in it (Phew). :P
Salahahdin ·

Marc
Salahahdin ·
Yes I do get up at night and make sure he is ok. Specially when it rains I go downstairs and make sure he stays dry, haha. :P
Robo ·
Going to Action Day?????
Salahahdin ·
Yeah I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I just hope your not asking if 'Kevin' is going to be there too. 'Cause He ain't. He is still about 4wks away from roadgoing capabilities.
But then again from what the local Police told me all he needs is a Windscreen back in him and he's Roadworthy 😉
Haha, just hope it don't rain!!
byronbus ·
nice, coming together very well:thumb
where did you get the portable carport?
Salahahdin ·
I got the portable carport from Supacheap Auto. 6mx3m.
$199 reduced to $149 (so I snapped on up) as they were $149 for a short period only. Then they went back up to $199 then for one day only they were $99. 😠
Here on the Sunshine Coast we get some strong winds and I was worried about rain getting in the sides but so far no rain has made it any higher than the wheel arches.
Robo ·
Hows it commin along, any new pic's.🙂
Rob......
Salahahdin ·
Man I wish I did.
I am flying up to Rocky this weekend for three days, then when I get back. WORK WORK WORK. So I pray that come next weekend I'll get a good go on 'Kevin' And get all his glass back in. And I promise to have pics 😉
Robo ·
Hi Man
You wouldn't believe it. But I just saw another Kombi down the road at Tweed freshly painted the same colours as Kevin!
Rob....
Salahahdin ·
Hey guys (and girls)]
Can I post sound files on here 'cuase I digitally recorded 'Kevin's' Original muffler and then when I put the extractors on I recorded it too.
Just thought I'd be cool so others could get a sample of what Extractors sound like. Well mild ones at least. Might save a few people sleepness nights wondering, (hmmmm, extractors or girlfriend, mmmmmm, extractors or girlfriend) I DID :P
Robo ·
I'd take extractors every time! 😀
I hope my wife dosen't read this!( I love you darling
Rob....
Salahahdin ·
Got it sorted, you have to make your own Web page, derrr :jesus
When I bought 'Kevin' his dash was all cracked and wiring was hanging out everywhere, I mean everywhere. Previous owners had piggybacked onto anything to get power. Well this doesn't look so crash hot now but if I only had the original setup to show as comparison.
Salahahdin ·
Here is his newly rebuild Carbies, RH shown. I also wish I had original setup to compare with (won't be a prob from now on as I bought a Digital camera of my own)
Take note of the shiny newly rebuild Main Throttle body, Had the main butterflies rebushed by a pro. Best $66 I ever invested into those carbies. :thumb
Andy ·
I hope the power lead to the choke is connected since the photo :o
Salahahdin ·
No, it isn't. I have disconnected my chokes. (Probably because of John Muir)
My engine fires NP in the mornings (without accelerator) and I just let it warm. I go out into the carport, fire Him up and finish packing up whatever I am going out for.
Please explain Andy. You have raised doubt in my mind. As I am not by any means mechanicaly knowledgeable.
And Andy can I post sounds here??
Salahahdin ·
I rustled up a Power LEAD, Only one I could find. Connected it straight to the battery, :thumb.
Just check it out, I got a bit carried away - hehe 😀
PLEASE GIMME FEEDBACK, ANY IDEAS FOR PAGE, Cheers :thumb

YEEEE HAAAAAA, Finally.
I got the glass sorted and my front doors are pretty much back together.
I am in the middle of making some new trim cards for all the interior trim panels. I'll be using MR MDF and reusing the vinyl trim. Should look pretty good when it's done. 😀
[Edited on 23-9-2003 by Salahahdin]
Salahahdin ·
Here's is it all back together apart from the windscreen. Shoulda bought WCM 🙁
Salahahdin ·
And here is Kevins Home in the yard 😀
Salahahdin ·
And those really hard to find dash vent plastics, haha :bounce
Salahahdin ·
New doors seals!! and 1/4 glass rubbers and interior and exterior glass scrapers WOOHOO :P
Salahahdin ·
And New plastic sealer sheet, bought this heavy duty stuff from the Local Hardware store. Boy is it thick!! :thumb
Salahahdin ·
And last pic from the weekend, My polished mirrors, half a tube of metal polish each - HAHA 😀
Andy ·
Looking sweet dude :thumb
How are you glueing the plastic on the door down??
Salahahdin ·
With a clear setting acrylic silicone, works a treat. 'Cuase the stuff is so sticky I just placed an over sized peice of plastic on the door (with the silicone bead around it) and the silicone grabs and hangs onto the plastic for you, THen wait until it sets then just run a blade around to trim, easy peasy :thumb
Andy ·
Cool. I had the problem that the silicone I used didn't stick to the plastic sheet 🙁
I ended up using the tacky window sealant stuff instead which wasn't ideal.
Andy
:thumb
Salahahdin ·
Shoulda Bought WCM from the beginning, Damn Brazillian Rubbish, haha.
Here is my Lovely assistant 'Ruby' with the finished product. What a Gal!! :thumb

Salahahdin ·
Today 'Kevin', Ruby my G/F and I went for a cruise down to Beerburrum Glasshouse Mountains. I have installed a Transistor Assisted Ignition and HOLY COW does it make a difference. I bought the Pertronix kit from Mick Motors (Good on ya Mick :thumb) and I reckon it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Also fitted a Tacho in 'Kevin'. Thanks BuggyBrad!!!😀:thumb
Salahahdin ·
Just a little modification :P
Salahahdin ·
And wholla 'Kevin's' new tacho 😎
Salahahdin ·
Mind you fitting this conduit wasn't all that easy, But a necessity - you'll agree
Salahahdin ·
