Hey guys just posting a few pics of the 1963 bug i just found on gum tree. I only paid 800 looks pretty original and they previous owners gave me heaps of spares including original bumpers, indicators, badges and like 5 sets of headlights. Just missing the wolfsburg badge on the bonnet... If anyone knows where i could get one from at a reasonable price could you please pm me. Anyway take a look and let me know what u think.

rubbed back to bare metal and etch primed

and again
Rusty AKA my 76 bay ·
Looks good, What are the plans?
peter87 ·
well the people who owned it before me tried to restore it and cut all of the wiring, the body is back to metal and etch primed, taking the shell of and re painting the chassis... pretty much a complete resto.
peter87 ·
finally decided on a colour, what do you guys think?
peter87 ·
things are starting to finally come back together 🙂
charlie ·
awesome colour, what motor is that?
peter87 ·
1300 from a 71
dubster ·
Sweet color, that's going to look awesome on your bug.
looking really nice Peter when do you hope to spray the body?
peter87 ·
It's going to take a while, body has gone in for welding repairs only costing around 600. Then i'm going to putty spray, under coat in 2 pac and wet rub then should be all good for painting in probably around a month or two.
peter87 ·
Prepping the guards and need a little feedback, what colour should i paint the inside of the arches? i was thinking black but i'm not sure
Carl and Emily ·
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to go 'factory look'.
Inside the wheel arches, under the guards etc, should be same colour as body.
peter87 ·
Yeah i was thinking the same, but it isn't really going to be seen and if i did get it painted inside the wheel arches it is probably going to cost me quite a bit more than i am already paying
Lucky Phil ·
Go the body colour under the guards IMO.
It shouldn't cost too much more.
Everything is already off and the prepwork doesn't need to be as detailed as on top.
Throwing black under there is for cleaning up a crappy car really quick
peter87 ·
Heater channels and front inner pannels are being replaced.
peter87 ·
does anyone know how to remove rust convertor? from paint with out stripping it back to metal again?
peter87 ·
decided to change my colour choice to pearl white with blue metallic flakes. i'll post pics of the progress.

peter87 ·
still have quite a lot to do. attempting to complete the body work this weekend.

seats
peter87 ·
before re trimming (they don't look to bad for a first effort)
peter87 ·
does anyone know where i can buy a full set of seals for a 63 beetle? (e.g. doors, windows, door handles).
t_tuffnut ·
Classic Vee Dub does them, and I'm sure a heap of other onilne places do.
How does that exhaust sound? Is it the euro gt quiet pack? Mine has extractors and is noisy as hell - I got a dB reading inside the car at idle and it was 88 - so for the sake of my hearing in years to come I need something a bit quieter.
peter87 ·
As bad as it sounds i have not started it since the resto has begun. It's a lot better than the exhaust i previously had on it considering it was just a pipe welded onto the mounts. what sound deadener did you use?
peter87 ·
a woman down the road from me just bought what i think is a 67 deluxe, looks pretty sweet. Took it for a spin and it felt so smooth where as the 71 bug we have is a lot worse. Can anyone direct me to a decent vw mechanic in adelaide?
peter87 ·
body work on the shell is complete, now bolt on panels..
smithy68 ·
Take it to GHR on daws road, they are great
peter87 ·
probably will when i finish the resto for a brake change and full service
peter87 ·
body work #1

peter87 ·
Does anyone know where i can purchase a set of gards to fit a 63 beetle (must abe in adelaide area) and preferably rust free. As the panels i have are to far gone
prep work nearly completed, taking time with the body work to get it perfect and should hopefully have it ready to send of to be painted before we move house fingers crossed. hopefully upload some more pics soon.
peter87 ·

Stinkbug ·
great work man!🙂
Aussie Dubbin ·
Ur project looks fantastic mate. Ur not painting those rear guards with the lights on are you?
peter87 ·
thanks guys, and na just put them on when we put the 2 pac undercoat on thought it may have been easier to paint the car as a whole. Looks completely different now. ill post a few more pics up.
peter87 ·
after a few weeks of sanding she's looking a lot better
peter87 ·
all fine bogged and ready for paint booking in this weekend.
having over 2000 photos of me 63 resto project i've finally put up some of the work that has been done on it. keen to get the body of to the paint shop. all new wiring loom to be put in within the next few weeks. Does anyone know where i can purchase a decent 6-12 volt convertor from?
peter87 ·
another decision should the rims be painted the same colour of the car or red like the interior.
spectral ·
I reckon clean up the drums (paint alloy wheel silver) and match the rims to the drums. Black wheel nuts, and no hubcaps 🙂
The 5x205 drop centre wheels are a real character point for the cars and I like seeing them visable (clean and neat of course)!
(nice colour choice by the way.. let us know an approximate cost for the body/paint shop?? That metallic won't be cheap?)
peter87 ·
@spectral im getting it done through a family friend he has quoted me around 2k plus he is doing a bit more of the body work to get it looking smick. I've got a set of hubbies in perfect condition wouldn't want them to go to waist 🙂.

Umm,.. I hope you don't mind me saying,.. those tail light housings are from a later model.
Is that what you want???
Look forward to seeing it in colour.👍
peter87 ·
yeah they are from a 67, i got the from a vw event and dont want to pay 120 for cheap reproduction ones. I have a set from a 67 with original hella lenses.
peter87 ·
well today i said goodbye to my beetle for a week, paint going on this week sometime. keen to get the wiring in and reassembling the car 😀

paint job was 2k family friend painted her
spectral ·
thanks for that. I don't have a friend/family in the trade, so I guess i'll need to budget double that 🙁
peter87 ·
i'm sure you will find someone to do it for a reasonable price, are you doing the body work and prep before hand?
peter87 ·
Spent the weekend running the new wiring loom with a few experts giving me a hand 🙂. things are coming together quite quickly. Any chance anyone knows of a trimmer who deals with vw's? need windows, headliner etc fitted.
peter87 ·
anyone have an AU wiring diagram?
peter87 ·
Does anyone know where i can buy quality window seals in Australia?
peter87 ·
fitting a few bits and pieces, it sure has come along way in under a year and hasn't even had its after paint polish yet.

got a complete kit for 2 doors recently from Das Resto Parts. The kit is a Wolfsburg West kit.
Very happy with the service from Das Resto, and the product.
peter87 ·
do you by any chance remember the pricing?
peter87 ·
does anyone know of any auto trimmers in the adelaide area who specialise in vw?
SebastienPeek ·
Don't know about VW specifically, but these guys do a great job that is for sure. A few mates have had their cars done here.
I'm sure they'd do the whole lot for you. Give them a call for a quote tomorrow and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help!
peter87 ·
attempting to install the windows in my 3 bug. Anyone have a process that works well? looked up install on youtube but didn't really work any pointers?
peter87 ·
finally got around to putting the rubbers on the windows.... now to put them in. Heading to melbourne this week anyone know of any vw places with decent quality parts?
peter87 ·
Haven't really had time to do anything on my bug lately, but might attempt to instal windows tomorrow. Any tips?
spectral ·
I've always found this series of videos handy :
