Older long time members of Club VeeDub will know this car and unfortunately the original builder (my old school mate) passed away about 2 years ago at 43.
Not sure if anything has been altered since I last saw it, but all I can remember is saying how much I would love to own this car. Others will be able to tell you more about it and whom Rob (Bob) sold it to etc. I recall it had a wicked motor in it though.

Certainly something I'd like to own as well, but alas I'd have to sell body parts first.

bluesbrothers Autos use to have this karmann ghia in their back shed for a while too. they must have a soft spot for the finest vw's 🙂

I saw it on eBay this afternoon too and recognized it from an old magazine article that had it and another yellow one with silver Porsche twists...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure there was an articule on this car and another similar yellow beetle in a hot 4's / fast fours mag back in the late 90's early 00's?
I still have the mag somewhere, I will see if I can drag it out.

i remember seeing this for the first time i always said id build one like that one day but i just gave up i couldnt do it , he was a top bloke with time for anybody and always loved talking to people about there cars . as for blues brothers what can be said that gia they had sat there for more then a year before it sold as far as i can remember .. this beetle should be a museum piece somewhere

Blues Bros are friends of the last owner who also recently passed away and the proceeds of the sale will be going to the guys family.
I recon we should start a raffle, raise the money and raffle winner gets it. Makes it easier than the whole forum owning the car and fights starting out.
The V Force boys can give us more info of what happened to the original Berg engine.

You could probably use one of the fundraising websites for bands, entrepreneurs etc to do this properly. My sister used one to raise a few thousand dollars to show her collection at fashion week this year. Basically you pledge the amount, $100 per person in this case with your credit card and unless the fundraising goal is reached nobody gets charged and the website administers it all for a small percentage so it's all above board. The one she used was focused on arts projects but might be able to be used for this, it's sort of art? I'll ask her the details.

Richard from V Force knew Rob well, but i don't know if he'd be up for organising a raffle, I am seeing one of Rob's friends tomorrow and will ask him what the best way to go about this could be.........I think a club of some sort could easily do it as they have the financial means already in place, they just need to be willing to help.

For those that are interested
I contacted the owner's brother about 10 days ago and had a chat about what we are thinking
He was unsure what the family were doing with the car but said he would put it to them and would be in contact if there was any interest
I can only assume that there is no interest.
