Valla Last Minute

Who else is still working on their car getting it ready for Valla?

I was meant to clean my baja today but destroyed the internals of the steering box so I've spent the afternoon replacing that instead.

I'm leaving Thursday morning and I still need to replace my rear brakes, rear wheel bearings, and probably raise the rear suspension and notch the springplates too. Going to be some busy afternoons this week cause tomorrow I'm heading out offroading again, lets see if we can break something else 🤘🤘

Surely I'm not the only one doing this at the last minute, nothing motivates like a deadline!!!
So what are you all doing to your cars?

smiley what steering box are you using? i cant remember who it was but some one mentioned that they were having issues with a repro steering box?
ps i wish i was going to valla!!! good luck with your work 😵‍💫

I hear you! Just fixed all my throttle linkage in side the cab on my bus today so hopefully evrything is good just got to start getting some spares together and i should be right to

It was an original early style off a '61 Beetle. It broke because I had an altercation with a very big step in a rut, wasn't a repro box.

The one I've just put on is a very good condition orignal box out of a 1500 that I have here at home. Steering is smooth a silk with no play now.


Spares!! And packing? I'll probably be doing that Thursday morning before I leave!! 😂😂😂

I am still working on my ghia, a new 2275 with external oil cooler, thermostat, new interiour, complete the wiring , run the engine in and complete the first service before we leave

still need to clean, check and adjust the bug. plus pack and make sure i have enough beer. ill be there saturday peoples.

Just replaced the oil lines to my external cooler, adjusted the tappets, and gave it it's 630,000km oil change (not original engine).

Still have to drive to Inverell tomorrow night, clean a lot of bits & pieces on the car each afternoon during the week, then drive back to Port Macquarie on Friday night and probably clean bugs off it again, before meetin our local VWs at the Dennis Bridge (Hastings River) on Saturday morning and driving to Valla for the procession to Nambucca Heads.

Other than than just loaf around I reckon.

Took mine for a drive yesterday to make sure the battery is charged and all is going good after the new clutch and clutch fork fitted the other week.

Borrowing my mates car trailer to tow my sons bug up, he's racing at Raleigh, 3 people going up and his bug is a 2 seater so rather than take take 2 cars I thought it would be better tow it up.

I promised the owner of the trailer that I would repack the wheel bearing before leaving, it has electric brakes so I need to fit the brake controller I bought on eBay 18 months ago to my wife's Prado.

I need to give my sons bug a wash and set the valves.

Just a few things to check, if not sorted I'll leave have to leave the beetle at home and take an R32 golf instead.

Fitted new window reg a couple of weeks ago and fixed horn and hopefully have the lights sorted,

Only thing to fix now is my arm, not sure what has happened but it's swollen and can not bend my elbow or lift anything so hopefully a visit to the dr's will sort it.

Leaving Sydney Friday morning.can someone give me the details of the track,if we get there in time it would be nice to have a look.

I'm putting in a new beam and spindles....I've already fitted a deep sump, changed oils and adjusted valves. 🙂

Fitting new front seats, trialling new wheels and tyres to see if they'll fit, grease front end, remove seats, fit bed and adjust steering box, sort electrical gremlin!!This is all on the to do list for Monday!

Well yesterday was a beautiful day and managed to get the painting all done (4 guards, bonnet & deck lid).

So now all that's on the list is reassembly, some quick trailer mods, fluids check, tappets and change wheels & tyres... plus doing the usual 9-5 of course... may even squeeze in some time for a cut & polish !!!

I have been doing some work on the cabrio still not ready for rego but I will be trailering it down for the weekend on Friday and see if someone wants it more than me for the right money.

New King and Link Pins with drop spindles, 4 wheel drums now discs replaced or recod all brake lines. New Dual Cisruit Osize Mastercylinder, New HB Cables, Check all wiring and compelte 6 to 12V conversion, nearly ready.

Oh and fit Fuchs replicas and new tyres!

Seats in, got rims on rear just have to get tyres for the front. Bed is in so just a quick wash on the outside and im almost ready to go...

Well I did a 50klm trip last night and when I got home found My temperature gauge wasn't working
[wire hanging under engine]
My speedo blinker light wasn't working
My oil pressure gauge wasn't working
probably loose wires..

a little bit of oil under engine.. small drip [no not Me]

I also need to raise the front off the shock rubbers..
and replace a tyre I wrecked last week when the air valve rubber split... and the tyre went down...
until it was only flat on the bottom.. still is.. lol

I would try cleaning some of the paint from off of the wire connectors ,😂🤪😂

Took the car for a run this morning thinking everything was sorted, I stopped got out to check it out and saw all my new engine oil pouring out.now have to get a new cooler fitted to engine and hope that sorts it and have it done in time to leave Friday morning.

washed two more today..
now decisions decisions as to what to take...?
starting to panic as hopefully all the swap meat stuff will fit in

Thankfully the alternator wasn't the problem, just a stuffed regulator so worked out to be a lot cheaper. Now it's time to hit the road Thursday morn bring it on!!!

Did a wheel cylinder on the rear brakes driving into the garage this morning, Better now than half wayto Valla, no fluid on the road where I had it parked or on the drive, didn't notice the leak till 3.00pm, fluid started about a metre into the garage, have replaced cylinder and shoes, starting on the other side (why not?) then waiting till tomorrow for a hand to bleed em. Thank you Mr. Nymeyer.

Replaced the wheel bearings on the car trailer and fitted the electric brake controller.

Just need to adjust the valves on the bug and give it wash and then pack.

I just spent the afternoon on the Baja.

Replaced the engine and transaxles oils.
Adjusted rear brakes.
Cleaned and reoiled air filter.
Replaced faulty oil pressure warning light sender.
Greased the front end.
Fitted a new blue plate.

I gave the engine a quick degrease.

Still have to clean the poor thing and fit new handbrake cables tomorrow before heading off Thursday.

As well as pack, I better do that too lol.

ok ive changed the oil and plugs replaced the leads and had it running sweet all day then drove out tonight and well its running very rough tonight ,so now have to figure it out and hook trailer up and pack clothes food and drinks before thursday morning

Might have to write my AVD name on our shirt's so i can put some faces to names.

At the nationals and bugs & busses by the bay, I put mine on an old name tag I had - met heaps more people because they knew who I was for a change. :-)

I plan to do the same at Valla.

I just rebuilt the pedal assemble on mine and gave the inside a quick vacuum. Still need to wash her and pack for tomorrow and I'm running out of daylight!!!

I hope that everyone else has their cars sorted!

i couldnt work out why my fuel gauge isnt working after two weeks and i hope ive solved my flasher problem and need to sort food and drinks out and load them and clothes into van

I'm done just sleep and turn the key tomorrow morn 5am. Hoping to meet some crew at Yatla BP on the way.

Mate 7am meeting there. I''ll probably be just over half hr in front of you man.

Skyved off work for the arvo to get Jezzi finished, so all good and and have just loaded her onto the trailer... not really a Valla unless cutting it fine I reckon...

Now all that's left is to sort out food and booze, pack some warm clothes and make sure have all the racing necessities and am good to go.

Finished roof on buggy at 12.30 last night and new oil cooler mount ( this time fixed to car rather than hanging on the road like last one???)
Bus packed and ready to go.
