I often DID race twice a month back then, but not all year round.
I was only 25 years old back in 1994. Not bad numbers for a young fella!

Wonder where the ghia ended up?? Id love to look through all your drag racing photos from your time in the sport Dave! I reckon it would be gold!

I was just getting my car together around then, only running 12's so didn't rate a mention 🙁

Yeah I guess the letter was pretty dated by the time it was published.
It was probably 1993 when I sent theletter
because that ET I quoted was back in late 1992, still with a carb on the blower,
and by march 1994 I had run 10's with the injection sorted out.
Gene and Dee Visited Valla that year,
and returned the next year with the car and Gary,
when we all had a chance to run against him.

Yeah mate, I thought the same thing, in those days it was normal for magazines to take 18 months or more to publish contributions. Even the Gary Downunder article was 2 years or more by memory. I had the VW Trends photographer do a shoot of my baja in '88, didn't come out until '93 or so.....🤪

Thanks Matt for the photo.
Mark and myself has a small contest going as to who could get their roofline the lowest - both of us got to "belly button" height but as can be possibly seen by the photo - Mark eventually won!!! (Dave B's stature standing beside the buggy should give you an idea as to how low we eventually got)
I still say I won as I am shorter!!

Thanks Matt! !!!!!

Went from here back to Pagey's.... Then down to Victoria with the guy that was running the turbo fastie.... I think he sold it as well
Chris the Berg shots are all 1995.
Henry's buggy was featured in VW Power Magazine late 80's, and was racing at the 89 nats from memory.
(11.41 all time best from memory before retired) One of the shots with a young(40?) Henry was 1990 nats.
Marks Ghia was first completed around 1989 or racing early 1990, but did not run into the 11's until the mid 90's.(11.41 best NA)
The early one of mine with the big tyres is 1991.
Some of the ones with Henry's buggy are 1990,
and I think the one of pagey with the Veedub Imports signage may be 1990 VW nats since that is what is on the guys shirt.
The one with Pagey racing Matt's 911 is the first Jambo which was 1991.
matberry ·
Yep, sounds right to me 😉 thanks Dave

Mad Ash's 1303 chop top was a bit later, maybe '96 or '97
