The beginning...
The separation
The dodgy rolling rack
The RUST...
Bit of work ahead of you. Mine has both heater channels and front firewall gone as well
Great to see a CB in our neck of the woods, look forward to seeing your progress !
I remember seeing that buggy around Byron years ago - have you had it long or was it one of those buggies that got passed around over the years.
I have seen a lot worse and it will come up a treat.
What colour was it originally ?
Picked it up around a year ago, but i believe it has been the city bike for a while...
It is stated in the CB register as being Beige, but i haven't taken any paint off as yet.. planning on making the rust repairs and keeping it a rat.
Keep the current sign writing and put it on a later model beetle pan
YIKES so that is what salt water does to a vehicle that isn't dipped into the paint bin..when its made...
there are many good anti-rust treatments and paints but that poor little country buggy wasn't loved....
Best of luck and many thanks for the photos..
love em..

Well after a number of years searching for the right panel guy to take on the task to repair the rust and maintain the patina. Brad from Concept Coach
Works in Southport stepped up and is steaming ahead!
Preparing the body for blasting - protecting that all important sign writing.
front lid repairs
Fresh steel and one of John Kelcik's windscreen frames - Awesome attention to detail.
after the blast... no surprise to find more cancer!
Heater channels - whats left of them and the new ones about to go in
A few more for the peeps... Still lots more cancerous steel to cut out and replaced.
I dread to think of the cost of this, but for something so iconic to Australian VW history, I guess it all is worth it for the fun of driving the car in the end.
Old metal out, fresh metal in
John Kelcik's windscreen surround arrived and mocked up
Brad makes it look so simple... quality workmanship
Rear engine lid area, freshened up...
New tubs - a little closer to terra firma
wonderful work there
Thanks to Dion, I scored myself a pair of original CB front seats to get the interior close to original
The rear seat base - starting from scratch
All welded in, so clean....
The tubs have been modified to look as close as possible to stock...
Each section being folded and welded in
A little swiss cheese... now all smoothed out
Wow, that neatens it up
Bonnet area all cleaned up..
On the final stretch, heater channels in, firewall repair ongoing
