XXX-1.8T - December 11th, 2012 at 08:04 PM

Just checking did they come with the following Blaupunkts?

· Wofsburg
· Emden
· Bremen
· Hamburg
· Stuttgart
· Essen
· Frankfurt
· Hannover
· Köln

Also if they didnt come with Blaupunkts what did they come with?

Anyone got pics of og radios from 68 or 69?

We fitted the radios and accessories in the dealership workshop to all of the beetles that we sold in Taree, the radios were purchased through the spare parts department and I think they were Ferris or AWA,I know there were a few aftermarket units available through Repco etc. I can't remember any coming with factory fitted radios.

My 69' came with a Ferris Solidstate radio with 5 button pre sets lol.

It was a stick shift, so would have been an import. Fitted straight into the dash radio hole with no modification. As to whether it was a dealer fitted or aftermarket, i couldn't tell you :).

Hi

They would have been dealer fitted, so usually what the local radio shop sold.

This brochure was from a 1966 car so 6 volt types shown. Most people forget about valve radios, they were slow to start up and really sucked power.

Hi

They were marked VW but would have been locally made.

As far as I know I've never seen a Blaupunkt Radio in any Beetle back in the late 50s and 60s and later..

Most were AWA - STC - Kreisler - Philips - Ferris - HMV -
all made in Australia
there was a BIG market for Car Radios made Especially for Our market with AM only.. some Philips Radios may have been made overseas -[Holland-Europe]
Ferris push button Radios were top of the line...
from memory and Australian made..

I can remember seeing European car Radios with two or three bands [Long Wave-Short Wave etc] can't remember what cars they were in..?? maybe BMW etc??

Remember that Beetles were all 6 volt until 1968 in Australia
when they changed to 12 volt that the most of the rest of the world had had since before 1960..
and 12v Radios would then have been Transistorised , instead of Valves, which had used a lot of power..

It seems that most New Beetles in Australia had very few factory installed accessories... Most [all?] were dealer fitted..
I suppose that was easiest option.. lol

and just keep making the same car without accessories...
