Hi
I spoke to the owner at the nationals years ago...
He was selling it...

It belonged to His mother [from memory]
was sold new in Sydney,

it was going somewhere else maybe new Zealand.. was taken off a boat, for some reason and sold here..

he didn't know it was rare until he was pulled up by the police for going thru a red light... and the Policeman said it wasn't a 68 model... or if it was, it was made to look like an early model... He knew the car was the same as His mother had bought it new.. [or grand mother???]

the fellow who inherited it had restored it back to original..
as I asked about the white painted 1/4 windows and front blinkers.. he said that is what they were before He repainted them..

cheers

LEE

PS: I presume its the same car.. lol ..
I think it was sold by Lanock motors??

Hi

They were never sold here.

They have a basically a 1500 body with early stainless blade bumpers and being a povo pack model it would only has a hood lining in the middle of the roof and not down the sides on the body, no horn rim only a button etc.

Just lots of little unique features, they had a different steering wheel, it's a baywindow kombi one but Beetle sized, instead of carpet it had that cardboard boot liner material with the square weave pattern on it, late headlights but early horn grilles, 6 volt, no fuel gauge, etc etc.

THere was 71 1200 getting around here but now rusting out in a mates backyard, no one knew it was anything special, just another old VW.

Hi Steve
If its the one from the nationals years ago
it was sold new by Lanock motors in 1968 or 69
was offloaded here for some reason.. off a ship..
was supposed to go to some other country...
but the deal fell thru.?? I thought he said NZ.??
maybe one of the islands..??
a really odd one...
the 1200L was sold in Germany even in the 70s.. was a big seller there as it was cheap... lol
I'll try and find the photos I took...
