Just a question, does anyone know of someone who or owns a Kubelwagen
Ray Black in Sydney, he has a Schwimmwagen as well
Why do you need to know ???
There is also a Kubelwagen in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, but it may not be on display at any particular time. They change the displays
regularly and are in the middle of a major refit (particularly of the aeroplane hall).
In any case, it's a farily ratty Kubel that's missing a lot of parts. It has a nice coat of paint but that's about all. Ray's
Kubel is probably the best in the country.
anyoner make replica kubels or shwimms in Oz?
Yeah that Kubelwagen is on display at A.W.M in Canberra, my Brother looks after it. :thumb
This is a fake thats sitting in a yard down the road from my home.

Kubel Photos
and another
J in Perth is restoring a '44 Kübel (very nicely);
R in Sydney has a '44/'45 Kübel and an entertaining Schwimmer/Kombi hybrid;
G in Sydney has a '44 Kübel and a Schwimmer with 'modified' bodywork;
A in Sydney also has a Kübel and Schwimmer set;
J near Sydney is restoring a '43 Kübel (also doing a fine job);
G in Melbourne has the Feb'44 Schwimmer Geodon used to have;
Geodon we've met;
And then there's me slowly restoring a'43 Kübel that came out of the factory the day before Geodon's, on May 18. (Which I think makes
mine the oldest Vw in Oz, aside from that very shiny thing in Canberra.)(Too bad mine's a piece of junk.. )
I believe there may be another Kübel in Sydney somewhere (it used to belong to J in Melbourne, who sold it to an MV enthusiast up there) and
I've seen a photo of a Kübel at a Queensland meet, though I've been told that one could be a replica. And since I traced this lot having no
connections in the either the VW scene or the MV community, I think it reasonable to assume that there are a good few more out there. In my work in
the film/TV business I've met guys who insist that back in the Sullivans days they used to hire Kübels and Schwimmers from a guy near Albury who
had "half a dozen". I find this hard to believe, but one of these guys was a VW enthusiast himself, so should have known what he was looking
at.
I've made a bunch of instant enemies with that Schwimmer/Kombi crack, haven't I..?
Dude! Welcome to the forum!!:bounce
The one that I posted is the one from the Sullivans.
I also sold some parts to a bloke restoring a 44 kubel in the Dandenongs.
Very nice unit to I might ad.
Cool info,
The one in the war memorial in Canberra was brought in by the Army & sold off at auction in the late 40's or 50's ( I understand for 20
quid) It then sat at the big old wreckers in Kingaroy (QLD) for many years (in verrrrry poor shape) It was then aquired by the Govt.
Gerry, of Brisbane (who owns the handbuilt replica kubel in QLD) actually turned up one of the original doors a couple of years ago from the same
yard. The yard has now been flattened & is a housing development. It had a massive selection of ex military stuff...

I'd love a replica, hell i'd settle for a rear window Split or
Oval Beetle to convert to a Kommadeurwagen!
