hey guys im a bit puzzled at present my aircooled t1 motor wont idle and it cant be adjusted ive tried 2 other carbs and replaced the inlet manifold
gaskets and boots the carby base gasket.
the only thing left is that maybe the end castings have become poris after i sanded them down smooth all the valves are set right and so are the
points plenty of spark just running really rich at idle ive ran a normal mech pump and now a electric one set low and no leakage through the carby wat
tha any help would be great
cheers stevo
You probably ixed a maniold leak and now the ich mixture/low ai will not let it idle. What caby is on it and do you know how to tune it?
single throat solex the idle does not change when the screw is returned all the way home (small mixture screw ) the air screw ( large one ) is 3.5 turns out and the idle still does not change, the screw on the front attaches to the choke butterfly is just touching the bottom notch anything else i should know the carby has been rebuilt as well
Does it have a idle cut off solinoid, if this is not connected or has gone open circut it will not idle.
http://www.vw-resource.com/jets.html#idle
the cut off switch is switching as well
its seems to be running rich as idle jet 55
It won't be the jet, g55 is stock for a 1600 unless its been reamed out by a PO.
no still messures the same joel
Sometimes the mixture screw binds in the thread and doesn't actually cut all fuel, does the speed change if you disconect the power to the idle solinoid? If so the jet cuts the fuel and not the screw, can only mean it's running on progression ports (choke fast idle adjustment needs to back off) or mixture screw is not closing passage, or high float/fuel press (you'll see fuel discharging down the carb throat whilst running with air filter off).
