most often problem
donn - May 10th, 2013 at 11:23 AM

I reckon that the most common comment about a problem on this site is regarding posting of pics, there was once a time when I could add pics no problem but then something changed and what I did no longer worked. It's quite obvious that it can be done as there are heaps of people posting pics, but quite often a member will state that they can't do it. In the past I have had advice about how to do it, but just can't seem to overcome whatever stupid mistake I'm making so after repeated fails I just gave up, as it seems others have done. Maybe it's a setting on the individual PC but as I am a complete idiot with these things I wouldn't know where to start.
Would it be possible to have a sticky with specific step by step instructions to make it possible for the dopes like me to follow. I guess it would have to be specificaly designed around one program (I had one success with "thumbnails" but that was a once only thing, couldn't get it to work after that). There are other blokes on here that have the same problem I reckon as one long time member not far from where I live never put up pics just states that he will email them if required same as I do.
Help Please
Don

Donn,

have to agree with you. I have spoken to others and they tell me I can upload a photo directly from my computer, but I can't see how. If you click on the 'insert photo' tab it asks for a URL, not browse my computer like I would expect.

I still believe you need an independent host! Unless my settings on this site are wrong :sniffle:

I am with you guys.
There would be a lot more pics for all of us if it was easier to do.
I know 'how to do it' posts have been done before but without a 10 year old around to help, it defies most of us.
Can we establish which way is the easiest, (for us dummies) and run with it.
If you need to test it, ask someone over 50 to test it, not your teenager.
Thanks

hrastovica - May 10th, 2013 at 12:36 PM

Yep 100% agree on this one.

At the moment im uploading them to tinypic.com then opening the actual file, and embedding them

Very tedious.

Joel - May 10th, 2013 at 12:50 PM

Kev, the insert picture tab at the top is only for photos hosted on another site.

If you want to add pics hosted by AVD then you need to use the attachment thingy under the message

CLick the browse button I have circled and if you want to add more than one click on the ( - Add Attachement - ) thing I have also circled.

That will let you browse multiple pics like the 2nd photo.

One of the biggest problems is people try to upload pics that are too large.
THe limit is 100 or 200kb.

If they are over that it wont tell you, they just don't appear.

hrastovica - May 10th, 2013 at 01:01 PM

Lets see if this works... yes it works. Wah Wah Wee Wah!

donn - May 10th, 2013 at 01:47 PM

Ok Joel, that's EXACTLY what I used to do, and it worked, but then it started to tell me that the pic or file or whatever was too big, so I tried posting a pic that I had already posted (ie, one that worked) and I reduced it, when I got down to 10% and it was still too big I gave up. now I know it's obviosly something I'm doing wrong (or not doing ) or a setting on my PC but WTF it is I don't know, yet I have no problems posting pics on other forum sites that I use.
Bugger and shit. :grind::!::spin::crazy:
FARLAMIN HELL IT'S WERKN AGIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And two for the price of one Donn....awesome

donn - May 10th, 2013 at 02:07 PM

Cool as, look out now, just posted one in Pic of the week, another success. I reckon this is a bit like when my favourite tree in my back yard looked like dying, I lent an axe against it and two days latter it was throwing out new shoots. :D

You upset the internetz Don, it must have knew you were talking about it

What are you using to resize your pics?

If its somehting like Photoshop it may just have the photo quality set too high and making the file too large.

Camo - May 10th, 2013 at 02:22 PM

Thanks Joel, yes it is simple but not for simple people :lol:

I just tried it, but the photos from my phone are to big so still a bit of stuffing around.

Have a great weekend, Kev

Joel - May 10th, 2013 at 02:32 PM

No worries,

That's the problem with phones and cameras, because the resolution is huge straight from the memory card so is the file size

I use a program called Pixresizer, it lets you resize one picture or an entire folder, just tell it what size you want them all and its done.

Thats just it! I'm NOT resizing, pulling them straight out of my album.

benny_acko - May 10th, 2013 at 03:48 PM

You should also be able to reduce the size (quality) of the photos you are taking on your phone/camera in settings - either at the time you are taking the pics or when downloading to your computer. I cant find it in my iphone settings but know it happens when you want to email them. And if im moving them to my computer I think I recall it asking what quality...

^^ As above you just need to resize prior to trying to upload.Unless you are a professional, putting them in a magazine or mounting them on your wall you dont really need the really high resolution...

works every time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

barls - May 10th, 2013 at 09:01 PM

as has been said many time before, and in the two sticky threads in the new members section on how to post pics.
the files need to be under 100kbs in size to be attached

Lucky Phil - May 11th, 2013 at 08:18 PM

I use my old digital camera for posting photos.
Just preset the resolution before taking the pic.
No need to resize.

The_Bronze. - May 14th, 2013 at 10:02 PM

Where's the "like" button?

vlad01 - May 14th, 2013 at 10:44 PM

works fine for me on my laptop, ipad and iphone

vlad01 - May 14th, 2013 at 11:15 PM

does this ever since I joined and on all computers. only thing in common is they all run ff

donn - May 15th, 2013 at 09:32 AM

I've don't have that problem vlad, I suppose very occasionaly it will "drop off" but mostly it remembers me when I open the site. What's "ff"? and what's this spell check thingy, I'd love one as on other forums I visit, didn't know AVD had one.

1303Steve - May 15th, 2013 at 01:06 PM

Hi

Another thing to remember is to click "new reply" not "quick reply" it will bring up the picture loading window like Joel posted.

If I'm doing a batch of photos I use Picsizer the same as Joel but I also use Microsoft Image composer for doing a few photos.

I have no problems staying logged in on my home PC whether using Opera or Google chrome, in my work ute I have a sort of laptop, its a Panasonic tough book using IE, it remembers my pass word for a few days and then looses it.

Steve

I have the "remember password" issue too. Only here, never has my Toshiba Laptop remembered the password, only on this site. :?:

lou0060 - May 15th, 2013 at 09:44 PM

I just email my photos to myself and use the Outlook email program to resize the photos. Then I save them to a "small" folder so I have the original format photos as well as the smaller ones. very easy!
