Do you need an engineers certificate to fit one in NSW??

Do you need engineers certificates for disc brakes or larger engines?

Dunno but I want one (ultimate beam that is).

Anyone got one they want to sell? Or anyone in Oz that stocks em?

to fit a modified component id say yes, but check with the bloke doing the blueslip

you will need to talk to a engineer to see if he will allow it, as he takes the responsability for it being engineered to meet the ADR's, In Queensland all of my cars have mod plates for disc brake conversions and larger engines,

He wanted all the non standard brake components correctly engineered along with the CAD drawings, once i machined all the components and fitted them to the car he inspected them to make sure that they were made as per the drawings, then they were tested, after that he issued the paper work along with the blue plate, alot of people who do the approvals are not engineers and i see a lot of non propiority parts being fitted and getting plated, so if you find a approval station that will sign off on these thing it still does not make it a done deal as any cop can put you over the pits if he so disired.

You can engineer the mods but if you get a copper who thinks he's a junior engineer and does not like your head he can still put you over the pits, the problem if the way people who certify the mods interperate the legisation, it is wide open and it depends on how they think, a good example is my brothers mustang, he paid to have lap sash belts installed in the front but the clown did not fit a blue plate for the top mount which is a structural point, again all my cars have a mod plate for the belts that i have installed. i think it would be very hard to get a engineer to approve a narrowed beam as any reduction in track is illegal, also the beam is not a propriority part and the engineer would have to take responsability for it's design, you need to cover yourself against litigation, if you have a accident that resalts in serious injury or death, I talked to shannon about the mods and as long as they are engineered correctly they will cover you, if you have a serious accident and they know the car has mods they can ask you to produce the paper work and posibly have it accessed by there own engineer, he told me they will take your money but if the payout is enough they will ask questions, All you have to do is remember your disclosure statement, there are a lot of people who do not care that the mods to there cars are not engineered and as you get older you realise that being a rebel without a clue really does not work when you loose every thing you own. Currently i am engineering a double wishbone front end for a type one and intend to have this comply to the ADR's for use on the road, it is a long road and expect to spend at least 12 months on the engineering, in a lot of cases people sell you the part and you have to get it approved which can resalt in a mod that cannot be complied and was a complete waste of time and money.
